After starting /path/to/soffice the first time > it actually executed the office suite and not the setup program as > before! Okay. I've been following this discussion and have made numerous attempts to get SO5.1 running. I applied the procfs_docmdline() patch and it was able to do the /net install (I even wrote up a nifty shell script to do all the necessary environment variables, untarring, etc)... The installation was flawless except for the console message: shared address space fork attempted: pid: 743 which was repeated twice. Cool beans. Then I tried: /compat/linux/opt/Office51/bin/setup to run the installer as my user this time (the net install was of course done as root). It asks for the custnum/regkey and all the user info, then went to install. It got to 100%, then the drive stopped ticking. I waited about 10 minutes, checked the process using top, which was taking about 4% of the CPU and falling. When I switched back, the setup program wasn't refreshing after the XExpose... So I assumed it crashed, destroyed the window, and SIGINT'd the setup process. When I tried running the "soffice" script, I saw it startup the "soffice.bin" binary (in top), but I saw the console message: shared address space fork attempted: pid: 771 repeated three times. Hmm. I'm running 3.2-R, SMP on a dual PPro 200. I waited another five minutes, nothing come up, and the process dropped to about 2% of the CPU. It didn't seem to want to start up. Frustrating. I had tried the non-/net install before on a different 3.2-R box with no problems in setup but still the same waiting-for-nothing-to- show-up soffice binary. All you people who have SO5.1 running in fbsd, please tell me what I've missed... I highly suspect this "shared address space fork" as the problem. I have linux_lib-2.6.1 installed and the linux module's working (obviously, or I wouldn't have been able to install)... I am also seeing quite a bit of core dumps from this G2 player. My X-Server shared-memory configuration was low and I was getting some SHMGET errors when launching the palyer but increasing shared-memory hasn't stopped the core dumps. As I understand it, the Player's bandwith settings dtermine whether a session is played at low or hi bitrates. In my case, I have a 256Kbit/s ADSL connection and so configured my G2 player. But in this mode, incoming sessions that are played at 150-200Kbit/s only play for a few seconds before core-dumping -- I played some 100Kbit/s sessions fine but they appeared not to be reliable and eventually the playwer would core-dump. If I reconfigure the Player for a 112 Kbit/s (ISDN) bandwith setting then sessions are played at low-bitrates say 34-40Kbit/s and the player doesn't core dump. Do we have a baseline from someone using the player natively under Linux, ie., is it exhibiting the same behaviour under Linux or is this symptomatic of linux emulation under FBSD? For a test session that exhibits the above behaviour see www.broadcast.com/video/courttv. -- Denis To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-emulation" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-emulation Fri Jul 23 4:35:18 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-emulation@freebsd.org Received: from atena.eurocontrol.fr (atena.uneec.eurocontrol.fr [147.196.69.10]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 823221501E for ; Fri, 23 Jul 1999 04:35:12 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from roberto@eurocontrol.fr) Received: from caerdonn.eurocontrol.fr (caerdonn.eurocontrol.fr [147.196.43.2]) by atena.eurocontrol.fr (Postfix) with ESMTP id 33E641BE8 for ; Fri, 23 Jul 1999 13:33:12 +0200 (MET DST) (envelope-from roberto@caerdonn.eurocontrol.fr) Received: by caerdonn.eurocontrol.fr (Postfix, from userid 1193) id 8C1713B60; Fri, 23 Jul 1999 13:33:05 +0200 (CEST) Date: Fri, 23 Jul 1999 13:33:05 +0200 From: Ollivier Robert To: emulation@freebsd.org Subject: Star Office 5.1 Message-ID: <19990723133305.A525@caerdonn.eurocontrol.fr> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii User-Agent: Mutt/0.95.5i X-Operating-System: FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT Sender: owner-freebsd-emulation@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I confirm that you _need_ the procfs patch that was posted a while ago to run SO 5.1. I have linux-devtools installed as well as the base package. Emulation works fine as does the development environment. % sudo /usr/sbin/chroot /usr/compat/linux ELF interpreter /compat/linux/lib/ld-linux.so.1 not found Abort trap I've run /usr/compat/linux/sbin/ldconfig and same thing. Any ideas? Thanks!
