However, all the 601 Macs were based around Nubus, not PCI. They also lacked open firmware. The NewWorld Macs are much more widespread and available anyway, it looks like the FreeBSD/ppc port is going to concentrate on them (at least as far as Mac PPC hardware is concerned). - Matt To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ppc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-ppc Fri Oct 5 13: 7:51 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org Received: from mailrelay3.inwind.it (mailrelay3.inwind.it [212.141.54.103]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DA38337B407 for ; Fri, 5 Oct 2001 13:07:46 -0700 (PDT) Received: from [62.98.71.172] (62.98.71.172) by mailrelay3.inwind.it (5.5.029) id 3BBC28F5000DB8A7 for freebsd-ppc@freebsd.org; Fri, 5 Oct 2001 22:07:45 +0200 User-Agent: Microsoft-Outlook-Express-Macintosh-Edition/5.02.2106 Date: Fri, 05 Oct 2001 22:01:41 +0200 Subject: Mac PPC From: zio Luca To: Message-ID: Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-ppc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Can I get a FreeBSD running on Powermacs like 7300 and beige G3? Since I am using FreeBSD for a long time I am interested in the ppc port. My question is in how far I could help with this project. I am aware of the fact that it will take me some time to get familar with the new architecture. However, there might be a need for testers? I have a sound knowledge of C and (Intel) Assembler programming as well as some experience from previous work on RS6k systems. Also, I started to study some of the documentation available from the Motorola sites. Probably somebody could give me a hint to a good book on PPC programming?
