I didn't get to the point in the installation program where changes were written to disk. I don't know whether it is possible to coerce the=20 installation programm to commit changes to the partition table before proceeding to the disklabel editor. I did restart the installation proces= s=20 several times, in the belief I had missed something. After rebooting into Linux, changing the partition/slice type to FreeBSD, then restarting the installation process, the problem went away. > That would still be a bug tho'. I suspect it is. Who are we?
If you want to meet high demands you have to be able to offer the best, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Top quality is distinct through reliability, just as you can rely on all products of Citadel Hospitality Automation. Our customers rate our products as extremely stabile and reliable. This fact in itself is not remarkable because we invest a lot of time in Research and Development of our products. Users of our products profit from this through interfaces with 3rd party products. For example, integration to Microsoft Office and external systems like PABX, Call Accounting, Keycard, PayTV etc. User friendliness of the user interface is also a key element of our products. This makes the overall process easier and reduces errors.

Third Party : TRACKCARD
Citadel interface with Trackcard With each newsletter we encourage our business partners the opportunity to write an article about themselves. Normally these business partners are vendors that supply hotel or resort products that Brilliant interfaces with. Telephone, Pay TV, Vending, Key Card, Accounting are examples of systems which can be interfaced with the Citadel software. This month the featured firm is Trackcard:

TRACKCARD together with Citadel could eliminate all cash handling in your hotel.
How often are hotel serving staff looking for small change, looking up prices, making mistakes with money and wasting time handling, counting and balancing cash.
Even if a bar-tab is posted to a room, can you be sure that the room details are correct or that the slip does not get lost or forgotten along the way?
With the introduction of a TRACKCARD, a cash-less payment system, your hotel guests could use their door-key cards to purchase goods and services efficiently and securely.
Citadel Hospitality Automation have a special interface for their Property Management System that enables cash-less sales made via the TRACKCARD system to be instantaneously posted to the relevant room account.
This is an example of the innovative attitude that Citadel have towards "Complete Solution" philosophies for their clients.

Award SOPHO Certification 2001

One of the products that were awarded SOPHO Certification in 2001 was Citadel Brilliant Property Management Suite, which is provided by Netherlands-based Citadel Hospitality Automation. In the hospitality sector it's common practice for a hotel to link its PBX with what's generally referred as a Property Management System (PMS) - an automated administration system that takes care of things like cost accounting, registering room status, message handling and wake-up calls. Certification of Brilliant is a recognition of the excellent, proven interface and integration it forms with the SOPHO PBX via PBC's SOPHO SysManager. PBC and Citadel Hospitality Automation see the certification of Brilliant as confirmation of the excellent co-operation between the two, benefiting their mutual clients.

However, several do not. net/if.c routines if_findindex() and if_setlladdr() gain access to the ethernet address via the following expression: ((struct arpcom *)ifp->if_softc)->ac_enaddr The above code assumes that the if_softc pointer is equivalent to an struct arpcom pointer. The awi, ray, lnc and pdq drivers have other fields at the beginning of their softc structures. Attempts to set the ethernet address of these devices should cause corruption. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: Two possible changes -- Change if.c to use the following instead: ((struct arpcom *)ifp)->ac_enaddr Or change the arpcom structure alignment in all four drivers. In a discussion on freebsd-net@FreeBSD.ORG, the consensus was that arpcom should be at the beginning of softc. Apparently, page 77 of Stevens' TCP/IP Illustrated Volume 2 documents this. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-bugs Thu Jul 18 17:10:29 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5176137B400; Thu, 18 Jul 2002 17:10:23 -0700 (PDT) Received: from rwcrmhc53.attbi.com (rwcrmhc53.attbi.com [204.127.198.39]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A2FA343E6A; Thu, 18 Jul 2002 17:10:22 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bmah@employees.org) Received: from bmah.dyndns.org ([12.233.149.189]) by rwcrmhc53.attbi.com (InterMail vM.4.01.03.27 201-229-121-127-20010626) with ESMTP id <20020719001022.KLNT26053.rwcrmhc53.attbi.com@bmah.dyndns.org>; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 00:10:22 +0000 Received: from intruder.bmah.org (localhost [IPv6:::1]) by bmah.dyndns.org (8.12.5/8.12.5) with ESMTP id g6J0ALeU085135; Thu, 18 Jul 2002 17:10:21 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from bmah@intruder.bmah.org) Received: (from bmah@localhost) by intruder.bmah.org (8.12.5/8.12.5/Submit) id g6J0AJME085129; Thu, 18 Jul 2002 17:10:19 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200207190010.g6J0AJME085129@intruder.bmah.org> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.5+ 20020506 with nmh-1.0.4 To: Lukas Ertl Cc: Philip Rueegsegger , freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD 4.5 on a Thinkpad X21 In-Reply-To: References: Comments: In-reply-to Lukas Ertl message dated "Thu, 18 Jul 2002 00:20:25 +0200." FreeBSD currently handles flag NOARP for network interface in the way that completely disables ARP for that interface. It's often too strict for real world operations. Sometimes we just want ARP table to be protected from modification via public interface but gateway must respond to ARP queries for its own MAC address. So, this host can cooperate with known hosts only (using preloaded ARP table) and can act as gateway for them and those hosts are not forced to have static ARP records themselves. The patches implementing such behavour float around for long time. Here is an adaptaion of one such patch for 4.6-STABLE. It introduces new sysctl named net.link.ether.inet.strict_noarp with default value of 1. This value corresponds to current meaning of IFF_NOARP. One can change it to 0 to enable host to reply to ARP queries; the ARP table is still protected from modifications via interfaces marked as NOARP. >How-To-Repeat: There is no problem, see above. >Fix: Apply this patch. I accessed the device using ugen0.5 and ugen0.6 read/write calls. The protocol is request/response, that is write a command/data, read results. Originally the software was compiled with -ptread. Using the software lead to intermittent lockups. Using ktrace showed, that signals (SIGPROF) from the thread library led to lost data and lockup, that is after a command write, there where no data to be read. An inspection of the usb source code seems to indicate, that signals during read calls lead to loss of data in buffers. >How-To-Repeat: see above. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-bugs Fri Jul 19 21:25:27 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-bugs@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9256D37B400; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 21:25:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4760843E3B; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 21:25:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from tjr@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (tjr@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.4/8.12.4) with ESMTP id g6K4PQJU018879; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 21:25:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from tjr@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from tjr@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.4/8.12.4/Submit) id g6K4PHOf018875; Fri, 19 Jul 2002 21:25:17 -0700 (PDT) Date: Fri, 19 Jul 2002 21:25:17 -0700 (PDT) From: "Tim J. I already did that. Virtual PC has a feature to completely remove USB, but this made no difference. Anyway, the problem seems to be related to the acd device support. It always hangs on: DEBUG: deviceTry: attempting to open /dev/acd0c DEBUG: deviceTry: Making raw device for /dev/acd0c [117, 0] Keep in mind that this problem ONLY occurs in 4.6-RELEASE and that earlier versions, e.g. 4.5, 4.4, etc., are unaffected. Paul A. Scott P.S. Prior to the hang as described above, scrolling back on the sysinstall virtual tty shows the following just before sysinstall fills the terminal screen with a blue background: acd0: DVD-ROM drive at ata1 as master acd0: 128KB buffer, PIO4 acd0: Reads: CD-R, CD-RW, CD-DA, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, packet acd0: Writes: acd0: Audio: play, 255 volume levels acd0: Mechanism: ejectable tray, lock protected acd0: Medium: CD-ROM unknown [The FreeBSD 4.6 Disc 1 is loaded - PScott] However, when the DEBUG virtual tty later reports "making raw device" for acd0c, then the machine hangs.
