The M/B is ASUS P2B-DS, equipped with 440BX chipset and with dual Pentium II (450MHz). It has 4 32bit PCI slots and 2 ISA slots. The 4.5-RELEASE install floppies paniced on the way. I tried netbooting with -STABLE kernel as of May 8, and now it boots (using GENERIC kernel, or SMP enabled kernel) but then the screen is full of error messages. When I boot, I keep on getting "PCI parity error: Reseat card, move card or buggy device present." message a few times a second from the twe driver, but the RAID drives seem to be working as far as I can see; things mounts fine, I can read/write to the array. Write test shows some 20-30MB/s in single drive JBOD mode using Western Digital ATA-100 disk. I don't get any errors if I boot off a DOS floppy, or a DOS (not windows..) partition _on the array_. And again files can be read/written fine. But this may just be that they don't show errors anyway.. If I plug this card into some newer M/B, things work fine without any error messages. For this I tried 32bit slots and 64bit slots; they both worked without any error messages. This is another dual CPU (Athlone MP 1500+) machine, if that matters. The 7810 hardware is the newer version without the recalled deficiency, and the firmware on the card is the newer release of Rev 7.4. I downloaded the image and had flashed them on. The BIOS on the M/B is most recent too; although it dates back as far as 07/04/00 (Rev 1013 beta, or Rev 1012b). The PCI slot used is chosen so that 7810 does not share irq with any other device, but I even shuffled them arround many times, to double check that they are not loose or improperly seated. So, all that said, I am suspecting if this could be due to pluging a 64bit PCI card into an old 32bit only PCI M/B. Is there any way to fix or work around this? or is this a REAL error that need a newer M/B? dmesg is attached at the end. Thanks in advance. -- Hiroharu Tamaru. --Multipart_Mon_Jun_17_17:46:15_2002-1 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="dmesg.boot" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Copyright (c) 1992-2002 The FreeBSD Project.
