For PCI serial ports, only a line 'device puc' is needed. How can I enable hardware RTS/CTS and set the fifo threshold? Reason for asking is my trying to get rid of 'silo overflow' errors. I think I cannot use 'options PUC_FASTINTR' here because the interrupt is shared with two other devices unless someone knows a way to keep other devices from sharing this interrupt. I just had to MAKEDEV usb1 and usb2 to make both ports work (one on the back and one on the side). Thanks a lot. However, the transfer rate between the camera and the notebook seems to be awfully slow - it takes 16 seconds to retrieve only 1 MByte of data from the camera. M$ windoze seems to be around 10 times faster than that. Is this a known issues, and is there a workaround? My DC uses CF cards, and it's easy to insert into X23's CF slot then mount. plasma ========================================================== PC home ¹q¤l«H½c¡A¥Ó½Ð½Ð¦Ü: http://www.pchome.com.tw PC home Online ºô¸ô®a®x¡G·|û²Ä¤@¡A¥xÆW³Ì¤jªº¤J¤fºô¯¸ ========================================================== To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-hardware Mon Oct 28 20:17:54 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-hardware@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 97BD337B401 for ; Mon, 28 Oct 2002 20:17:53 -0800 (PST) Received: from smtp012.mail.yahoo.com (smtp012.mail.yahoo.com [216.136.173.32]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 94CB143E6E for ; Mon, 28 Oct 2002 20:17:52 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from ngweeyong@yahoo.com.sg) Received: from adsl145.dyn214.pacific.net.sg (HELO NgWYNB) (ngweeyong@210.24.214.145 with login) by smtp.mail.vip.sc5.yahoo.com with SMTP; 29 Oct 2002 04:17:51 -0000 Message-ID: <006301c27f02$4d68c850$1300000a@NgWYNB> From: "Ng Wee Yong" To: , Subject: device fxp cannot detect Intel On-Board LAN Date: Tue, 29 Oct 2002 12:18:55 +0800 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2919.6700 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2919.6700 Sender: owner-freebsd-hardware@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi all, I just install the FreeBSD 4.6.2 - STABLE version. My motherboard is a MSI 845GE Max-L, 1.8Ghz Pentium 4, On-board LAN is Intel 82562. FreeBSD just work fine accept it cannot detect my On-Board Intel LAN. I build and install a custom KERNEL with "device fxp" & "device miibus" set. The new kernel was "make" & "make install" successfully. But it just cannot detect my network card. The "dmesg" doesn't even show any "fxp" output. Did I miss out any step? I read somewhere in the mailing list that you can do some setting in the file "/boot/loader.conf" file, is it? You shouldn't have had to take those steps; I did a 4.7 install yesterday and the onboard NIC was automagically discovered and the fxp driver installed. I suspect that your particular NIC isn't supported by the fxp driver. What does the man fxp page have to say? The chipset used in ThinkPad X30 implements only USB v 1.1 as far as I know, so that's not the problem for sure. I think I've already seen slowish USB throughput on some other FreeBSD notebooks before (ThinkPad 770, ThinkPad 600E), but didnt bother then... What problems are you seeing ? Actually, after poking around further, all I find are docs that say there has been full support for the NetXTreme since 4.4 - so it looks as if my question is evolving into "why isn't it working for me?" The problem I'm experiencing is fbsd simply not probing the device. Nothing under dmesg, bge support is definitly in the kernel. Is there a trick somewhere that I'm not gleaning, or some sort of bios level knob to turn? (If so, I can't find it.) This box was running a different OS previously, and was successfully on the network, so it's assumed that the hardware is functional. -Mahlon Mahlon E. Make sure its set to no, it makes the bios assign the irqs. That's odd - I don't even see a selection for PnP in the bios. I just noticed I am running version A04, and A05 was released on the 3rd. I'll update to that and see if it helps. I'm also seeing quite a few odd messages as the pci bus is probed - pci0: (vendor=3D0x1028, dev=3D0x000c) at 4.0 irq # ^^^ One for each IRQ. I'm suspecting some shared IRQ's not playing nicely, though shuffling them around so far isn't doing much good. Mahlon E. All I did was chuck in the FreeBSD-4.6.2 or 4.7 CD and it was picked up right from first boot. I did have to tweak the 4.6.2 boxes at the time by modifying the driver, but that was to resolve a run-time issue, not a card detection issue. The problem appears to have been fixed in 4.7. Thanks. >=20 > I've never had any problems with this nic in any respect, so I'm surprised to learn that you have problems with it. The only occasion I've come across the watchdog timeout in the past involved the D-Link 530TX nic that affected some folks under heavy load. But this isn't the scenario you've described here. Seems its failing straight after you've installed it. Initial questions: 1] Does / has the nic *actually* work(ed) for another OS? 2] How are you setting the IP Addr - /stand/sysinstall or with ifconfig? 3] Is there another pci slot available for you to move the nic to? Writing this reply does bring me to recall that this is now the third time I've seen someone complain about this nic.., but get back to the list with the answers to the above and hopefully we can progress this forward. I recently got a new PC at work, and unluckily it carries the ASUS P4S533-E mainboard. The problem I have is that, when booting 4.7, it hangs at the point it tries to discover the IDE devices. My IDE configuration is quite simple: 40GB Seagate Baracuda IV (w/ 80wire cable) Sony DDU1621 DVD-ROM drive Sony CRX195E4 CD-RW drive I found out by experimenting that the kernel hangs at the same point even when I change the hard disk with a 20GB Seagate or a 10GB WDC, or when I remove the CD-RW and DVD-ROM from the configuration. I even tried updating the kernel source (by installing and booting on another computer) and had the same results as of 30 Oct. Off topic, I had the same results when trying to boot OpenBSD 3.1 and OS/2 with a quite recent IDE driver which supports the 645. The machine came w/ windows98 preloaded and working fine and mandrake linux 8.1 boots and installs fine. Any ideas would be very appreciated thanks in advance -- Spyros Melissovas email: peppe@cs.uoi.gr To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
