Hello, I tried to do something on ftp.cz.FreeBSD.org (we do not have such big traffic as some other sites - I do not know why :-). Now I have to go to sleep, so just in short - it is a scan of all FTP and RSYNC logs, where every partial/full download is added up and then the result is divided by the real file size. We do not support HTTP yet (if anybody from hubs@ tells me, where what to do in one minute without any studying, I can setup it too): 4.7-disc1.iso: 121.1 4.7-mini.iso: 58.5 4.7-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 19.0 4.6.2-disc1.iso: 189.3 4.6.2-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 107.9 4.6-disc1.iso: 451.1 4.6-mini.iso: 232.2 4.6-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 158.9 4.5-install.iso: 472.7 4.5-mini.iso: 224.7 4.5-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 267.9 4.4-install.iso: 426.6 4.4-mini.iso: 184.3 4.4-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 262.0 4.3-install.iso: 745.7 4.3-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 300.3 4.2-install.iso: 221.3 4.2-RELEASE/bin/bin.fa: 193.0 It is without any bigger checks until now, so I do not know how correct are these values. Yes but who will do the work of preparing the guidelines.. If there are some people subscribed to this this who has any suggestions about what the guidelines should be, then we should start collecting their ideas and perhaps make a list and then open it for voting which ones should be included in the guidelines and which shouldnt? and who should collect the data? My take is that, given limited resources, only the major public mirrors require direct access to ftp-master and everyone else, including private mirrors and smaller public mirrors, can select the closest available mirror. In addition we have a ukug.uk.freebsd.org domain that has a shell account machine on it and various people have accounts there. (ukug = uk user group). Err.. oops! It seems that I actually forgot to CC it to -hubs. Incidentally, just as this message was being written, I received an e-mail from Will Mitayai Keeso Rowe , containing exactly the updates I needed for the ca.FreeBSD.org zone! Attached is an updated patch, which corrects the cvsup.ca.FreeBSD.org maintainer's address, and comments out the ftp.ca.FreeBSD.org, which is currently aliased to ftp.FreeBSD.org.. or should we list it anyway? Err.. That was my thinking, yes. Sounds fine to me. I have no problems with rewarding companies who donate significant resources to support FreeBSD. Agreed. We have a README.TXT which has (almost) same information in that directory. And I think we should remove version specific information in README.TXT. This file should describe only hierarchy of ftp archive, not latest release information. Hmm, I don't want to say "should not include", but removing version specific information from this file may reduce the load of release engineering team. -- Jun Kuriyama // IMG SRC, Inc. // FreeBSD Project To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message
