I agree.  However, what you're describing is not what existed with this
gettext problem.  gettext-0.11.x isn't like Perl of Tcl.  You should
only have one version of it installed at any given time.  Sure, you may
have gettext-devel and gettext installed, that's fine...but only one
devel/gettext.
