The roles I would like my computers to play are as follows Freebsd1 Server, Freebsd2 Slave, Freebsd3 Client, and Freebsd4 Client. I have been trying to set up NIS according to what the FreeBSD handbook says several times but all with no luck. Ok here's is another thing I’m new to FreeBSD so I don’t know how to use vipw very well so I always use add user instead please let me know if I am causing the problem by not using these programs. Also if you notice I have missed anything please let me know. Also Please Type in the exact command needed to fix my problem if at all possible as I have stated before I am new to FreeBSD so please assume I might not know. Cons are that we lose animated gifs (such as powerani.gif) and some images with transparency have lost it - see http://shrike.submonkey.net/~setantae/gifs/ for the old and new, but this is just from a pass through "{jpeg, gif}topnm | pnmtopng" so could possibly be solved. I definitely agree that the image patents are getting insane and would welcome a shift from GIF and JPEG to PNG, though there is still a chunk (albeit small, but who knows) of browsers that still do not support PNG images. For animated GIFs, the alternate would be MNG (animated PNGs): http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/ Then again, MNG support in browsers pretty much limited to Mozilla/Gecko-based browsers, Konquerer (and Safari?), and IE/Netscape 4.x via plug-ins. For my website, I've already converted GIF/JPEG to PNG images and serve them based on a very simple browser detection done in PHP. It's not the best solution, but it works for my needs. I took a look at your diff file and snickered at the fact that the directory names are still "gifs/". Maybe it's a chance to re-name it to "img/" and drop the different image formats into their own sub-directory? Of course doing that would probably wreak havoc on CVS, which I don't think the maintainers like :\ Anyway, that's my US$0.01. --=20 Linh Pham question@closedsrc.org Webmaster and FreeBSD Geek http://closedsrc.org Apprentice Manager Editor and Writer http://www.daemonnews.org C++ is to C, as lung cancer is to lung | There is always one more bug. --EVF5PPMfhYS0aIcm Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQFAjUFDwhofDeWkDMIRAgL4AJ9rKHARmuhqkwqaxQS1EubHhI8D7QCcC6oO L3wRIos2PMtjZwVgLZKBXAs= =g9qf -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --EVF5PPMfhYS0aIcm-- From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Apr 26 11:00:35 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9BCAF16A4D2 for ; Mon, 26 Apr 2004 11:00:35 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 90D9A43D58 for ; Mon, 26 Apr 2004 11:00:35 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i3QI0Zu3044465 for ; Mon, 26 Apr 2004 11:00:35 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i3QI0Yx4044459 for freebsd-doc@freebsd.org; Mon, 26 Apr 2004 11:00:34 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 26 Apr 2004 11:00:34 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200404261800.i3QI0Yx4044459@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: FreeBSD doc list Subject: Current unassigned doc problem reports X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 26 Apr 2004 18:00:35 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports The following is a listing of current problems submitted by FreeBSD users. These represent problem reports covering all versions including experimental development code and obsolete releases. Bugs can be in one of several states: o - open A problem report has been submitted, no sanity checking performed. a - analyzed The problem is understood and a solution is being sought. f - feedback Further work requires additional information from the originator or the community - possibly confirmation of the effectiveness of a proposed solution. p - patched A patch has been committed, but some issues (MFC and / or confirmation from originator) are still open. s - suspended The problem is not being worked on, due to lack of information or resources. This is a prime candidate for somebody who is looking for a project to do. If the problem cannot be solved at all, it will be closed, rather than suspended. c - closed A problem report is closed when any changes have been integrated, documented, and tested -- or when fixing the problem is abandoned. Kris, I don't think putting anything more than a pointer to books/handbook/kernelconfig-trouble.html in the FAQ would be sensible, and I'm not sure that would be more than just needless bloat either. It's hard to find "your" question in the FAQ by visual scanning already. FAQs are piles of documentation snippets nobody bothered to streamline into proper documentation, which in the case of FreeBSD is the books and articles. Please find a place for this in books/handbook/kernelconfig-trouble.html. -- If you cc me or remove the list(s) completely I'll most likely ignore your message. see http://www.eyrie.org./~eagle/faqs/questions.html From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 27 00:03:33 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DE82D16A4CE for ; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 00:03:32 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mta7.pltn13.pbi.net (mta7.pltn13.pbi.net [64.164.98.8]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 714A443D4C for ; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 00:03:32 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from kris@obsecurity.org) Received: from obsecurity.dyndns.org (10a64785509f1d48049573bd2132e222@adsl-67-115-73-128.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net [67.115.73.128])i3R73SQZ003908; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 00:03:29 -0700 (PDT) Received: by obsecurity.dyndns.org (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 47C9351A33; Tue, 27 Apr 2004 00:03:28 -0700 (PDT) Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 00:03:28 -0700 From: Kris Kennaway To: Roman Neuhauser Message-ID: <20040427070328.GA47969@xor.obsecurity.org> References: <20040426105430.GA78060@xor.obsecurity.org> <20040427063801.GA720@isis.wad.cz> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="LZvS9be/3tNcYl/X" Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20040427063801.GA720@isis.wad.cz> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i cc: docs@FreeBSD.org cc: Kris Kennaway Subject: Re: [kris@obsecurity.org: Re: can't build kernel with FAST_IPSEC R5.2.1] X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 07:03:33 -0000 --LZvS9be/3tNcYl/X Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On Tue, Apr 27, 2004 at 08:38:01AM +0200, Roman Neuhauser wrote: > # kris@obsecurity.org / 2004-04-26 03:54:30 -0700: > > From: Kris Kennaway > > > On Mon, Apr 26, 2004 at 11:34:57AM +0200, bohn_michael@tiscalie.de wr= ote: > > > > Hi all, > > > > I want to use my soekris VPN1401 and try to build a new kernel with= FAST_IPSEC=20 > > > > but when I try to build an kernel FAST_IPSEC option the make build = stops without=20 > > > > is works fine. > > > >=20 > > > > see log : > > > >=20 > > > > pcomp.o(.text+0x8a4): undefined reference to `crypto_freereq' > > > > xform_ipcomp.o(.text+0x93e): undefined reference to `crypto_dispatc= h' > > > > xform_ipcomp.o: In function `ipcomp_output_cb': > > >=20 > > > This almost always means you have omitted something from your kernel > > > config. Well, I don't care where it goes, but it's clear that this piece of information is not prominent enough in the existing FreeBSD documentation. If it doesn't, or if you require more than one tun interface, you'll need to rebuild your kernel with the following line in your kernel configuration file: pseudo-device tun N where N is the maximum number of PPP connections you wish to support. o Check your /dev directory for the tunnel device entries /dev/tunN, where `N' represents the number of the tun device, starting at zero. If they don't exist, you can create them by running "sh ./MAKEDEV tunN". This will create tun devices 0 through N. pseudo devices are long gone, and I believe the number of instances as well. MAKEDEV is also not needed when devfs is used, AFAICT. >How-To-Repeat: man ppp >Fix: Have a ppp guru read over the man page. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 30 11:30:18 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6834F16A4CE for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:30:18 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4301D43D4C for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:30:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i3UIUICP039884 for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:30:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i3UIUIxB039880; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:30:18 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:30:18 -0700 (PDT) Resent-Message-Id: <200404301830.i3UIUIxB039880@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Jamin Brown Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53E7F16A4CE for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:25:27 -0700 (PDT) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [216.136.204.117]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 47A5843D58 for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:25:27 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i3UIPQR3071227 for ; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:25:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i3UIPQ8A071226; Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:25:26 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200404301825.i3UIPQ8A071226@www.freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 30 Apr 2004 11:25:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Jamin Brown To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-2.3 Subject: docs/66117: Handbook Serial Console Page doesn't list how to recompile boot blocks.
