I have a clean 5.2.1. install on amd64 without any X installed yet. I have cvsup'ed and portupgraded all lastnight. Now I try to install xorg. My plan is make install clean the xorg metaport. But, make install exits when trying to make and install dri becuase it won't compile on amd64. Now I have seen there is an 'knob' WITHOUT_DRI but how do I enable this? Other question: after this I want to apply the patch xorg-conv-1.diff and continu to install gnome/kde. Is this the right way to go? You have to understand that you're working on the 'bleeding edge' right here -- the patchset that Eric Anholt has worked up is only now being tested on the ports build cluster. When I tested the -1 version of the patch, in order to make x11-servers/XFree86-4-Server, I had to set BuildXF86DRI to NO and comment out the RUN_DEPENDS immediately above it. Eric suggested in email to me that DRI would need further work for both the XFree86-4.4 update and the current x.org ports. > Other question: after this I want to apply the patch xorg-conv-1.diff > and continue to install gnome/kde. Is this the right way to go? He now has version xorg-conv-3.diff I believe. See PR ports/68763. (The changes are based partly on feedback that I provided from my own regression test -- but that only covered XFree86-4.4 itself, and not the apps that go with it. AFAIK, no one has yet build all the apps with all these changes yet.) You should also know that you may well be the first person to be testing these changes on amd64. This is an area under very active work right now. I'm sorry that I can't be of much more help at the moment, but, to use the colloquialism, you are actually out in front of the parade at this point :-) mcl From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jul 16 07:12:26 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 32AC516A4CE for ; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:12:26 +0000 (GMT) Received: from hotmail.com (bay14-f9.bay14.hotmail.com [64.4.49.9]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24EB443D45 for ; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:12:26 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from wifimaarten@hotmail.com) Received: from mail pickup service by hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 00:12:26 -0700 Received: from 194.151.102.253 by by14fd.bay14.hotmail.msn.com with HTTP; Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:12:25 GMT X-Originating-IP: [194.151.102.253] X-Originating-Email: [wifimaarten@hotmail.com] X-Sender: wifimaarten@hotmail.com From: "Maarten Sanders" To: linimon@lonesome.com Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:12:25 +0000 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed Message-ID: X-OriginalArrivalTime: 16 Jul 2004 07:12:26.0035 (UTC) FILETIME=[3F5D8030:01C46B04] cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Installing xorg on AMD64 without_dri X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 07:12:26 -0000 > > > My plan is make install clean the xorg metaport. Anyway, I added a line WITHOUT_DRI=YES to my make.conf (does that make sense?) as well as NO_SUID_ROOT=YES. I then removed all XFree86 packages and I removed imake as sugessted in the howto on www.freebsdforen.de Next steps: cd /usr/ports && patch < xorg-conv-1.diif make install clean of imake (6.7.0), succes make install clean of xorg-server, succes make install clean of xorg metaport, succes X -configure, succes pkg_add -r kde3 () echo "exec startkde" > .xinitrc startx...... and YES, succes! The build was succesfull, I haven't tested everything very well yet but it appears to be stable/usable. Next thing will be a portupgrade -a to get to kde 3.2 but then I'll have to patch with xorg-conv-3.diff because of a open-motif issue. something like somepath/deve/imake-6/devel/imake-4 appears (diff to the 'anholt' 1/3.diff files shows this should be resolved now). > > Other question: after this I want to apply the patch xorg-conv-1.diff > > and continue to install gnome/kde. Here is the problem XFree86 some time ago moved the acecad driver into the mouse driver and xorg does compile. Any ideas or stuck waiting till a new psu arrives in week and a half? If it helps, here is a the last bit of what xorg-server make kicks out before stopping. osdep.h:124: syntax error before `*' osdep.h:124: syntax error before `Auth' osdep.h:124: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `Bool' osdep.h:124: `Bool' declared as function returning a function osdep.h:125: syntax error before `Auth' osdep.h:125: `GeneratorFunc' declared as function returning a function osdep.h:126: `AddAuthorFunc' declared as function returning a function osdep.h:170: syntax error before `ClientPtr' osdep.h:187: warning: parameter names (without types) in function declaration osdep.h:189: syntax error before `who' osdep.h:199: field `conn_time' declared as a function osdep.h:223: syntax error before `OsCommPtr' In file included from ../include/gc.h:54, from ../include/dix.h:53, from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: /usr/ports/x11-servers/xorg-server/work/xc/exports/include/X11/Xdefs. h:49: conflicting types for `Bool' osdep.h:124: previous declaration of `Bool' In file included from ../include/dix.h:53, from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: ../include/gc.h:95: syntax error before `BITS32' ../include/gc.h:100: syntax error before `BITS32' ../include/gc.h:105: field `val' declared as a function ../include/gc.h:112: syntax error before `BITS32' ../include/gc.h:118: syntax error before `BITS32' ../include/gc.h:125: syntax error before `BITS32' ../include/gc.h:160: syntax error before `xRectangle' ../include/gc.h:168: syntax error before `xRectangle' In file included from ../include/regionstr.h:56, from ../include/region.h:51, from ../include/window.h:54, from ../include/dix.h:54, from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: ../include/miscstruct.h:57: syntax error before `DDXPointRec' ../include/miscstruct.h:57: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `DDXPointRec'../include/miscstruct.h:57: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class In file included from ../include/dix.h:54, from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: ../include/window.h:153: syntax error before `xGetWindowAttributesReply' In file included from ../include/dix.h:55, from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: ../include/input.h:216: syntax error before `CARD8' ../include/input.h:221: syntax error before `CARD8' ../include/input.h:225: syntax error before `xTimecoord' ../include/input.h:302: syntax error before `CARD8' ../include/input.h:311: syntax error before `CARD8' ../include/input.h:322: syntax error before `*' ../include/input.h:330: syntax error before `CARD8' In file included from osdep.h:233, from WaitFor.c:71: ../include/dix.h:304: field `months' declared as a function ../include/dix.h:305: field `milliseconds' declared as a function ../include/dix.h:354: syntax error before `xGetGeometryReply' ../include/dix.h:369: syntax error before `xGetImageReply' ../include/dix.h:610: syntax error before `*' ../include/dix.h:631: syntax error before `CARD8' ../include/dix.h:644: syntax error before `CARD8' In file included from WaitFor.c:71: osdep.h:315: syntax error before `name' osdep.h:332: syntax error before `ValidatorFunc' osdep.h:335: syntax error before `Name' osdep.h:336: syntax error before `name' In file included from WaitFor.c:73: ../include/dixstruct.h:49: syntax error before `xConnSetupPrefix' ../include/dixstruct.h:93: field `req_len' declared as a function In file included from ../include/opaque.h:36, from WaitFor.c:74: ../include/globals.h:27: syntax error before `dixScreenOrigins' ../include/globals.h:27: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `dixScreenOrigins'../include/globals.h:27: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class../include/globals.h:36: syntax error before `DPMSPowerLevel'../include/globals.h:36: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `DPMSPowerLevel'../include/globals.h:36: ANSI C forbids data definition with no type or storage class WaitFor.c:109: field `expires' declared as a function WaitFor.c:110: syntax error before `OsTimerCallback' WaitFor.c: In function `WaitForSomething': WaitFor.c:139: syntax error before `timeout' WaitFor.c:146: function `now' is initialized like a variable WaitFor.c:160: warning: implicit declaration of function `XFD_ANYSET' WaitFor.c:173: warning: implicit declaration of function `XFD_COPYSET' WaitFor.c:181: warning: implicit declaration of function `XFD_UNSET' WaitFor.c:189: invalid lvalue in assignment WaitFor.c:190: `timeout' undeclared (first use in this function) WaitFor.c:190: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once WaitFor.c:190: for each function it appears in.)
