Unfortunately I have need GUI on my last server (5th) and there is no way to make the system working as KDE.(I have some software requiring GUI to work) The problem is here: If I try any LIVE-CD Linux on this server, the graphic card (ATI RAGE 128 AGP with 32MB) it is working smooth and perfect. I also tried to install RedHat 8.0/9.0/Fedora 1 and Suse 9.1 and all went ok! I have KDE/Gnome running smooth! I love FreeBSd and I need FreeBSD, but when I tried to configure the X11 (via /stand/sysinstall) always server return me the error : "XFree86 setup seems failed...." If I try to give a 'startx' from console, I have the following error : "no screen0 found" But the screen0 is there, in my config file. I tried to copy the setup details that Redhat/Suse used for my ATI card into FreeBSD system XFree86config file without success having same problem comes out. I don't want here to tell that Linux is working, because I don't either like/want Linux on my servers. I want also the 5th Server in BSD. I know... it's me, for sure... but I don't know WHERE I mistake! I give it a try using a S3 SAVAGE AGP 8Mega with the same result and same error! At the moment I'm at home so I cannot post the complete LOG error. Any idea Thanks in advance! David __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! This was a momentary issue in -current, and is fixed now. You don't need the wrapper. The Xorg binary comes setuid because that wrapper code is already in the server. -- Eric Anholt eta@lclark.edu http://people.freebsd.org/~anholt/ anholt@FreeBSD.org From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 2 11:17:05 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 15C2E16A4CE for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 11:17:05 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E573C43D54 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 11:17:04 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11) with ESMTP id i72BH4pZ014563 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 11:17:04 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i72BH3jb014557 for x11@freebsd.org; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 11:17:03 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Date: Mon, 2 Aug 2004 11:17:03 GMT Message-Id: <200408021117.i72BH3jb014557@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: x11@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 11:17:05 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix this or what would be causing it; I wasn't able to reproduce this either under 4.10 or 5-current. But since you asked for a workaround - you could comment out the following line in x11-fonts/fontconfig/Makefile: @${SH} ${PKGINSTALL} ${PKGNAME} POST-INSTALL That would avoid building fontcache so the installation of other ports should proceed. Perhaps the maintainers (gnome@freebsd.org) would know how to actually fix this. > I've done a > portupgrade -fFRNuv x11-fonts/fontconfig > make > make install (fails) > The error above occurs on the make install > > The dependencies I have installed are: > expat-1.95.7 > freetype2-2.1.7_3 > gettext-0.13.1_1 > gmake-3.80_2 > libtool-1.3.4_2 > libtool-1.3.5_2 > pkgconfig-0.15.0_1 > > Thanks for any insights. > > Gary > > > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-x11@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-x11 > To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-x11-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 2 17:26:10 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4510616A4CF for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 17:26:10 +0000 (GMT) Received: from Shenton.org (23.ebbed1.client.atlantech.net [209.190.235.35]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 0E52C43D62 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 17:26:05 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from chris@Shenton.Org) Received: (qmail 21867 invoked by uid 1001); 2 Aug 2004 17:26:03 -0000 To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org From: Chris Shenton Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 13:26:03 -0400 Message-ID: <86pt69qwno.fsf@PECTOPAH.shenton.org> User-Agent: Gnus/5.110003 (No Gnus v0.3) Emacs/21.3 (berkeley-unix) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Subject: 5.2-CURRENT + Xorg hangs with Matrox G400 dual-head board X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 02 Aug 2004 17:26:10 -0000 I've got a Matrox G400 dual-head board in an AGP slot on a 5-year old machine. It seemed to be working fine with an earlier 5.x built from CVS, using the XFree86 version of X11 for the past few months and it seemed fine. Last week, I CVSupped and rebuilt the OS and kernel, and switched over to Xorg. Since then, the system has locked up hard, several times a day, always associated with an X11 event -- like a window popping to the top. The system hangs totally, no mouse, no CTL-ALT-F1, won't even respond to a ping. I have to reboot it. Actually, I have to power-cycle it, otherwise when it boots and I say "startx" or "xdm", the screen will blank and it will hang again. Power-cycling seems to clear this. In either case, there's nothing logged -- not that I've found. After power-cycle, sometimes the BIOS menu pops up and says something about about the system hanging due to CPU or Memory speed problems and that it's set these to default conservative values, or something. But it doesn't help anyway: it still hangs minutes/hours later when some graphics event occurs. I've had to replace my beloved dual head with an old PCI card I had lying around cuz I couldn't do anything. It hasn't hung at all. Any suggestions on how I could track this down? Thanks. (?!) 3) rebuilt xorg then fluxbox-devel. removed .fluxbox to ensure that the default settings would load. 4) played with xorg.conf (used old xfree.conf, built a new xorg.conf, and changed various settings withing xorg.conf) 5) attempted to pinpoint the issue via xev, but failed miserably. it smells like some sort of 'focus' problem to me. any suggestions would be very much appreciated. hoping that i'm not alone here. thanks, epi p.s. a little additional info for any of you who know a bit about fluxbox settings. the problem seems only to occur with those keybindings (like alt+tab) which are mapped to 'NextWindow' or 'NextWindow 1' but _not_ with 'NextTab'. naturally, the same holds true for the shift+foo combos which translate to 'Previous____'. _______________________________________________ freebsd-x11@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-x11 To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-x11-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Aug 2 23:09:15 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C9E816A4CE for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 23:09:15 +0000 (GMT) Received: from nightmare.dreamchaser.org (nightmare.dreamchaser.org [12.32.36.65]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1F76C43D58 for ; Mon, 2 Aug 2004 23:09:15 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from garya@dreamchaser.org) Received: from [12.32.36.74] (imagination.dreamchaser.org. I read ports/UPDATING and tried to update all my ports, but that did not go nicely. The 3 line port upgrade command doesn't want to work, it says there is a missing or open "'.", so if running with the -af options don't get all the ports I'll do it manually. I have used a generic xorg.conf file and all worked. When I added a few things stuff broke. With the dri, glx, and dri section uncommmented startx comes up with a black screen and a working mouse, but a froze keyboard with no lights at all. Only the power button would save me. With just glx x starts but has messed up menus, they seem to work right just look bad. I don't mean distorted, I mean no eye candy or smoothness. The erased my seettings for xfce4 so I just deleted .xfce4 and did a reinstall to them(I had to recustomized my icons and desktop). I will post logs and dmesg at my ftp: http://home.ec.rr.com/infobase/ Thanks, Jason From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 7 01:47:24 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E5AD16A4CE for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 01:47:22 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ms-smtp-02-eri0.southeast.rr.com (ms-smtp-02-lbl.southeast.rr.com [24.25.9.101]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1B61E43D62 for ; Sat, 7 Aug 2004 01:47:22 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from jason@ec.rr.com) Received: from [192.168.1.101] (cpe-024-211-230-171.ec.rr.com [24.211.230.171])i771lJNr002255 for ; Fri, 6 Aug 2004 21:47:19 -0400 (EDT) Message-ID: <411436CB.8090804@ec.rr.com> Date: Fri, 06 Aug 2004 21:56:27 -0400 From: jason User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.6 (X11/20040617) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 Cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org References: <4114349E.4050502@ec.rr.com> In-Reply-To: <4114349E.4050502@ec.rr.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine Subject: Re: I just updated to xorg and have problems. So you could compare where things stop getting logged, or is that needed? From: Dejan Lesjak To: freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org, david.julien@gmail.com Cc: Subject: Re: ports/70004: Unable to compile wmweather+ because of xpm Date: Sat, 7 Aug 2004 22:48:45 +0200 Could you check with pkg_info which XFree86* and/or xorg* you have installed, to see if there is some mixture of them. Xpm should come with xorg-libraries, so wmweather+ should find it if you have them installed. Also, you said you tried to remove Xpm dependency. What line(s) did you remove? There should not be explicit dependency on Xpm in wmweather's Makefile, so the line Xpm:${PORTSDIR}/graphics/xpm \ should indeed be removed, since USE_XPM=yes (which should stay) already takes care of Xpm library.
