These modems worked fine on 4.9 and 5.2.1. I'm in the process of migrating to 5.3 from 5.2.1 and going through our installation notes and testing everything for our IBM Thinkpad T30's, and ran into this when testing our PPP notes. I know that the pccard services work because I also use an Orinoco Gold wireless PCMCIA nic, and that is working ok. I also have dual boot with XP, and the modem works in XP, so I was able to confirm it still physically ok. We bought a bunch of these modems last year after reading recommendations on the FreeBSD Laptop Compatibiliy list, and even though they didn't cost much (I just bought a spare one recently for about $20), I'd hate to think they are now useless in 5.3. Is there a workaround; or does anybody else have one a 3CXM756 and had the same problem? If there is no fix, is there another 56k pcmcia modem that we can still pick up somewhere (we would need at least seven) that I can be guaranteed will work on a IBM Thinkpad T30 running FreeBSD-5.3? This kind of stinks...it's getting so rare that we even need modems anymore that I almost hate spending time on PPP and making sure it works. But there are still those rare moments (like in the hotel with no in-room broadband or up in the mountains on 'work' vacation), so I still have to have something. Andrew Belashov wrote: > To make a debug kernel, add the following line to your kernel > configuration: > makeoptions DEBUG=-g I've done this, and set dumpdev in my rc.conf. That done, I rebooted and tested suspend/resume. With the pir0 patch removed, the resume triggered the ROUTE_INTERRUPT error message three times, as before. That was followed by the same panic screen as before, with these values: fault virtual address = 0x0 instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc061ed0e stack pointer = 0x10:0xcde52ac8 frame pointer = 0x10:0xcde52ac8 code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b After reboot, I found I needed to symlink /var/crash to a directory with enough space to hold the core and manually run /etc/rc.d/savecore again. At this point, addr2line now reports: # addr2line -f -e kernel.debug 0xc061ed0e turnstile_head /usr/src/sys/kern/subr_turnstile.c:763 Since I now have a core file, I expect you'd like to see a backtrace... Which in my case is fine, since the call to pci_pir_biosroute() doesn't seem to be the source of my problem. It works fine with my inspiron 8000,but fails to work on the old latitude lxpi. The latitude has no pnp support so i have to start it with the card inserted. the dmesg are the same on both machines, everything about the usb hub seems right, but the peripherals attached to the usb ports, are not given power, and after one minutes an error "device problem uhub disconnected". Sounds like a hardware incompatibility, but I don't know if pcmcia has something to do with this. Most of the things are working, including ACPI (mostly), pcmcia cards, usb ports. However, there were some issues -- 1. Sound (Intel Integrated Sound, using "pcm" driver) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --> added: device sound device snd_ich to custom-built kernel. --- $ dmesg | grep pcm0 pcm0: port 0x18c0-0x18ff,0x1c00-0x1cff mem 0xd0000800-0xd00008ff,0xd0000c00-0xd0000dff irq 9 at device 31.5 on pci0 pcm0: [GIANT-LOCKED] pcm0: --- $ pciconf -lv // output for audio pcm0@pci0:31:5: class=0x040100 card=0x8197104d chip=0x24c58086 rev=0x03 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = '82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller' class = multimedia subclass = audio --- $ cat /dev/sndstat FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm) Installed devices: pcm0: at io 0x1c00, 0x18c0 irq 9 bufsz 16384 (1p/1r/4v channels duplex default) --- I believe all the required dev's are already there (e.g. /dev/.. audio..., dsp..., mixer). Q: How can I get this to work? It does work in Linux, only thing is, I had to mute the "External Amplifier" to hear anything (using alsamixer). Maybe some kind of "hint" to append in /boot/device.hints? 2. Intel 2200BG integrated WIFI ------------------------------------------------- I know there is a native ipw driver for *BSD, and also ndiswrapper, but I didn't try either yet. Q: Which one do you recommend / gets most of the features to work OK (i.e. AP scanning)? Just want to make sure before messing up the whole system. $ pciconf -lv //output for wireless card none4@pci2:11:0: class=0x028000 card=0x27538086 chip=0x42208086 rev=0x05 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Intel Corporation' device = 'PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection' class = network 3. Display (preferred 1280x800 resolution) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Since I have an ATI Mobility graphics card, from the time I boot FreeBSD until I start X, my whole display is restricted to a rectangle centered on the the screen (not full screen). I know there are some issues with ATI cards, and that there was a patch for 5.3-RELEASE. Does anyone remember the link / is this fixed in -CURRENT? Btw, I already have "option VESA" in the kernel config. Q: Does the patch fix the problem without further ado? (*not directly related to laptop, but _really important_ now... I'm a student, damn) 4. HP psc 1300 printer (USB Printer) -------------------------------------------------------- I have installed the latest hpijs drivers and also CUPS. Plus, I downloaded a PPD file from (www.linuxprinting.org) and placed it in /usr/local/share/cups/model/. Following the same procedure (as I did in Linux, and got it working...) using the web-interface, I set the device as "USB Device #1", then selected my printer model from the next screen. Q: How do I get it to print even the test page? When I hit the button to print a test page, it says "job submitted" etc, but the printer doesn't do anything. When I check in "Jobs" it says that XYZ job aborted. Here's what I get from /var/log/messages, the time I plug the printer in. Under the ath driver, there's a list ( http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=ath&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+5.3-RELEASE&format=html ) of supported cards, with a note at the end saying an up to date list can be found here ( http://customerproducts.atheros.com/customerproducts ). The confusion arises because far more cards appear in the atheros list - in fact, it appears like it may be the entire atheros range of wireless products. So, is the list in the ath man page exhaustive for currently supported ath cards, or should I work off the atheros.com link when checking to see if cards are supported? I'm not sure what you are trying to do but I handled this in 5.3 by ensuring that the slice and partition layout on all such devices was uniform. Then I installed a uniformly named script on each drive. The script can be tailored to provide whatever function the drive supports. I use the following layout: Slice 1: MSDOS Slice 2: FreeBSD Partition e: General purpose for automounting Partitions a,d,f-h: special purpose In /etc/amd.map and /etc/fstab I have entries to mount the MSDOS and FreeBSD partitions from each possible drive: /dev/da0s1 --> /amd/msdos0 /dev/da0s2e --> /amd/da0 /dev/da1s1 --> /amd/msdos1 /dev/da1s1e --> /amd/da1 Finally I arrange for devd to run a script from the drive when a new da[0-9]+ device is attached to the kernel. The devd knows which drive was attached (da[0-9]+) and can pass that into the script: #! /bin/sh ... device=$1; shift ## Use this test to automount the device. if test -d /amd/${device}/.; then ## Now see if this device has an autorun.sh script for use ## on attach. if test -f /amd/${device}/autorun.sh; then (cd /amd/${device} && sh autorun.sh ${device}) fi fi Up to here it's basic shell scripting. The problem with all this is that it all happens as root which I didn't want. So I wrote a daemon and client which allows the root owned devd process to trigger a user owned process when a message got passed on a unix domain socket. -- chris From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jan 26 16:10:19 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E1E0C16A4CF for ; Wed, 26 Jan 2005 16:10:19 +0000 (GMT) Received: from ebb.errno.com (ebb.errno.com [66.127.85.87]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 974F643D4C for ; Wed, 26 Jan 2005 16:10:19 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from sam@errno.com) Received: from [66.127.85.92] ([66.127.85.92]) (authenticated bits=0) by ebb.errno.com (8.12.9/8.12.6) with ESMTP id j0QGAFWi017988 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Wed, 26 Jan 2005 08:10:16 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from sam@errno.com) Message-ID: <41F7C0FF.1090900@errno.com> Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2005 08:10:39 -0800 From: Sam Leffler Organization: Errno Consulting User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 (Macintosh/20041206) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Aidan Whyte References: <001a01c50395$a578b950$2201040a@moriarty> In-Reply-To: <001a01c50395$a578b950$2201040a@moriarty> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: supported 802.11a pcmcia cards X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2005 16:10:20 -0000 Aidan Whyte wrote: > Hi everyone, I'm back to bug you a bit more unfortunately :) > > I've been looking at 802.11a pc-cards for freebsd, but I'm rather confused as to what exactly is > supported. Any Atheros-based PCI/Cardbus card currently in the retail channels will work with the driver in current (though I just saw an add for a card with the MIMO/TGh part that I haven't tested). The support in 5.3-RELEASE is >1 year old and does not handle some of the more recent parts. I have no plan to backport code to 5.x because the changes are massive and would break API's that are frozen for the life of the 5.x releases. I am in decision making which kind of notebook should I buy right now and I would like to be sure that it is working with FreeBSD RELENG_5. I need working the following features: - serial port - minicom, tip... - NIC - modem ; either internal or via PCMCIA (now I have xircom) - burning CD - ACPI - CPU throttling, switching off when battery is short, suspending (on the web page is mentioned, it is not working; is there any progress? it would be a plus) - PCMCIA cards generally - optionally: bluetooth, wireless It would help me much if somebody could comment on my questions (I know, there are some comments on the page, I would like to know as well, if there are any updates...). Thank you very much in advance. (Interestingly, this has changed recently -- in FreeBSD 5.2.1, it rebooted the system.) CPU frequency and voltages can be adjusted using my enhanced speedstep driver and daemon (sysutils/est and sysutils/estctrl) and work well. I have not tried the wireless connectivity via the Intel Pro/2200BG network interface. Let me mention that ACPI does work wrt CPU throttling, suspend/resume, and power off. Use of apm to suspend the computer results in machine lock, thus hard power recycle/off. - Parv -- From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jan 27 05:28:32 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8F85E16A4CE for ; Thu, 27 Jan 2005 05:28:32 +0000 (GMT) Received: from b.mail.sonic.net (b.mail.sonic.net [64.142.19.5]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5208C43D31 for ; Thu, 27 Jan 2005 05:28:32 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from guy@alum.mit.edu) Received: from [192.168.0.5] (209-204-185-249.dsl.static.sonic.net [209.204.185.249]) by b.mail.sonic.net (8.13.2/8.13.2) with ESMTP id j0R5SOnW014509 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=RC4-MD5 bits=128 verify=NO); Wed, 26 Jan 2005 21:28:24 -0800 Message-ID: <41F87BF7.8000008@alum.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2005 21:28:23 -0800 From: Guy Harris User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 (Macintosh/20041206) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: sam@errno.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit cc: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ath: a few questions [really kismet and radiotap] X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 05:28:32 -0000 > FWIW ethereal > deals with this issue by having a checkbox in the UI that you can use to > enable acceptance of such packets. Actually, it controls whether to treat the last 4 bytes of the frame as an FCS or not - the frames are accepted in either case, it would just misdissect them in some fashion if the preference setting doesn't match the capture. > The radiotap format should have a flag to indicate FCS is included but > it never happened. I will discuss this (again) with the radiotap-meister. Actually, the *BPF header* should have several things, such as a direction indication (incoming vs. outgoing at minimum, maybe with "received unicast" vs. "received broadcast" vs. "received multicast" vs. "received promiscuous" vs. "received somehow, I didn't bother to check" as options for "incoming") and an FCS size indication (for the benefit of PPP, as the FCS is, as I remember, negotiable). 802.11 isn't the only link-layer type where incoming frames might, or might not, have an FCS - some Ethernet interfaces also supply it, at least with some drivers (which is why I put the hack^H^H^Heuristic into Ethereal to try to guess whether the last 4 bytes of the frame are an FCS or not), and PPP frames might have them as well (depending on the PPP driver for live captures; captures from Sniffers often have them, probably because they're just doing passive captures), so an "FCS present" indication needs to be generic for BPF. At some point I need to look at BPF changes to support supplying that additional information. The next-generation libpcap format: http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html should be able to handle that - records containing packets: http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html#sectionpb can have options, including a flags option: http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html#appendixPBFM with that information. (Those records also include a count of packets dropped since the last packet, which, if BPF is being changed, should also be supplied.) Obviously, the old header will have to be supported in BPF for backwards compatibility; there'd probably be a BPF ioctl to request the new header. In this case you need SC_PIXEL_MODE and VESA kernel option and configure mode with something like 'vidcontrol MODE_322'. > 4. There are many ways to configure printer. First, you can check whether prnter connected through USB by cat /etc/protocols > /dev/ulpt0 (or like). Then you need configure some print spooler, cups for example. I do not like to install drivers manually from linuxprinting.org, often there is good driver in gimp-print port, but it should be built with WITH_CUPS=3Dyes. Then follow normal cups procedure for printer configuration and print testpage. > Here's what I get from /var/log/messages, the time I plug the printer in. >=20 > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: ulpt0: hp psc 1300 series, rev 2.00/1.00,=20 > addr 2, iclass 255/204 > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: ulpt0: using bi-directional mode > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: umass0: hp psc 1300 series, rev 2.00/1.00,= =20 > addr 2 > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0 > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: da0: Removable Direct Access=20 > SCSI-2 device > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: da0: 1.000MB/s transfers > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: da0: Attempt to query device size failed: = NOT=20 > READY, Medium not present > Jan 25 19:08:48 brainx kernel: (da0:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ CAPACITY. Kernel config on [1], a verbose dmesg on [2] and pciconf on [3]. 1. Sound -------- The sound card is a builtin snd_ich supported card, working flawlessly in 5.3, but I get a panic everytime a load the snd_ich module: oyvind-lap-lan# kldload snd_ich uhci2: at device 29.2 on pci0 uhci2: 0x20 bytes of rid 0x20 res 4 failed uhci2: Could not map ports device_attach: uhci2 attach returned 6 pcm0: at device 31.5 on pci0 Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault virtual address = 0x5 fault code = superviser read, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc04e0e4c stack pointer = 0x10:0xd521a96c frame pointer = 0x10:0xd521a96c code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 current process = 529 (kldload) [thread pid 529 tid 100051 ] Stopped at resource_list_find+0x14: cmpl %edx,0x4(%eax) db> tr bus_generic_alloc_resource+0x7f pci_alloc_map(c164fb00,c165b800,4,c1c09e30,0) at pci_alloc_map+0x215 pci_alloc_resource(c164fb00,c165b800,4,c1c09e30,0,ffffffff,1,2) at pci_alloc_resource+0x1b1 bus_alloc_resource(c165b800,4,c1c09e30,0,ffffffff) at bus_alloc_resource+0x7c ich_pci_attach(c165b800) at ich_pci_attach+0x1eb device_attach(c165b800,c165b800,c165b800,9,c165b800) at device_attach+0x58 device_probe_and_attach(c165b800,c165b800,c165b880) at device_probe_and_attach+0xc4 pci_driver_added(c164fb00,c1ce3180) at pci_driver_added+0xd1 devclass_add_driver(c1575680,c1ce3180,c1aed140,c1ce3160,c18fab40) at devclass_and_driver+0xb7 driver_module_handler(c1aed140,0,c1ce316c,c06800a0,0) at driver_module_handler+0x59 module_register_init(c1c.3160) at module_register_init+0x4b linker_file_sysint(c1cd5900,c1cd5900,c1cd5900,1,c1cd5900) at linker_file_sysinit+0x7d linker_load_file(c18cab40,d521acb0,400,0,c17a1c00) at linker_load_file+0xa3 linker_load_module(0,c17a1c00,0,0,d521acdc) at linker_load-module+0xa3 kldload(c178c170,d521ad14,1,0,292) at kldload+0xe7 syscall(2f,2f,2f,0,bfbfed48) at syscall+0x27b Xint0x80_syscall() at Xint0x80_sycall+0x1f --- syscall (304, FreeBSD ELF32, kldload), eip = 0x280b59d3, esp = 0xbfbfecbc, ebp = 0xbfbffecfc --- db> reset Panic and tr copied by hand, any oddities might be mine. Nvidia driver ---------------- I know this might be hoping too much, but I least want to give it a shot. Loading the module emits the same error as when loading the snd_ich module, but it doesn't panic. `sysctl hw.nvidia' outputs the same as in 5.3, so it would seem that it is partially loaded. `xorgcfg' doesn't work though, error log on [6]. Mapping libc.so.6 to libc.so.5 to satisfy, libXvMCNVIDIA.so.1, did not help, same result with copying a 5.3-stable libc.so.5 to /usr/local/lib/compat. I gave up the nvidia attempt, but trying to unload the module, it paniced: oyvind-lap-lan# kldunload nvidia Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode fault virtual address = 0x6c fault code = supervisor read, page not present instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc1ed4c82 stack pointer = 0x10:0xd660ac58 frame pointer = 0x10:0xd660ac58 code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 processor eflags = interrupt enabled, ruse, IOPL = 0 current process = 754 (kldunload) [thread pid 754 tid 100073 ] Stopped at nvidia_modevent+0x56: cmpl $0,0x6c(%eax) db> tr Tracing pid 754 tid 100073 td 0xc18f8450 nvidia_modevent(c18be580,1,0,c18be580,c1cd5b00) at nvidia_modevent+0x56 driver_module_handler(c18b580,1,c1f4eed8,c18be580,d660acc0) at driver_module_handler+0xbc module_unload(c18be580,0,c06800a0,0,0) at module_unload+0x37 linker_file_unload(c1cd5b00,0,c1b0c000,0,d660acec) at linker_file_unload+0x62 kern_kldunload(c18f8480,e,0,d660ad40,c060bc63) at kern_kldunload+0x98 kldunloadf(c18f8450,d660ad14,2,0,292) at kldunloadf+0x1e syscall(2f,2f,2f,e,bfbfee22) at syscall+0x27b Xint0x80_syscall() at Xint0x80_syscall+0x1f --- syscall (444, FreeBSD ELF32, kldunloadf), eip = 0x280bdb13, esp = 0xbfbfe88c, ebp = 0xbfbffecfc --- db>reset A full backtrace from kgdb of kernel.debug is available on [7], the vmcore and kernel.debug files are available on request. ------------ [1] verbose dmesg http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/dmesg [2] kernel config http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/lappis [3] pciconf -vl http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/pciconf [4] snd_ich backtrace http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/bt.snd_ich [5] acpidump http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/oyvind-ToshibaM2.asl [6] Xorg log http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/Xorg.8.log [7] nvidia backtrace http://oyvind.kolbu.ws/freebsd/bt.nvidia -- Thanks in advance, Øyvind Kolbu From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Jan 27 13:58:15 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 79AC616A4CE for ; Thu, 27 Jan 2005 13:58:15 +0000 (GMT) Received: from relay02.pair.com (relay02.pair.com [209.68.5.16]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with SMTP id C1A6F43D53 for ; Thu, 27 Jan 2005 13:58:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dwalton@acm.org) Received: (qmail 57589 invoked from network); 27 Jan 2005 10:44:52 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO ?172.16.1.34?) Upon resume, FreeBSD locked up, requiring me to turn off the system to recover. Now what? How do we continue troubleshooting with no error message and no core dump? While there is no serial port connector on the notebook, the port replicator (Thinkpad mini dock?) has a serial port and it works fine (regular COM1 interface) with NetBSD 2.0 (so therefore I'd be stunned if it didn't work with FreeBSD). The closest coverage I could find in the handbook is 5 paragraphs, none of which say anything about the new setup. http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/laptop/article.html The release notes are just as quiet. http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.3R/hardware-i386.html http://www.freebsd.org/releases/ Googling turns up a lot of 4.x info, and the cbb man page is less than enlightening, as is the cardbus man page. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=cbb&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+5.3-RELEASE+and+Ports&format=html http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=cardbus&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+5.3-RELEASE+and+Ports&format=html So please, if you have some FM that I can R that actually explains how to set up my NIC then link it. Curse me under your breath, talk down to me, go all Napolean Dynamite about it if you will, but I'd really like to get this laptop moved to 5.x. Incidentally, if this is such a FAQ then maybe it should be in the FAQs, I checked there too. This is getting to be a FAQ. It is documented in the Handbook and release notes, but keeps popping up. Unless your system is fairly old, it's unlikely that the problem discussed in PR is causing a problem. By default, V5 does not use pccardd any more. It uses cbb and cardbus. pccardd won't run or start with the GENERIC config. What is your config? What does dmesg show? Is devd running? (It is critical to getting devices to attach.) rc.conf? there is way too little information to really guess what's failing. -- R. For some time I have been using ACPI on Stable on my ThinkPad T30, but I thought I should make sure that it still worked with APM and... I can no longer suspend my system with APM. I enter 'zzz' and get a return and a prompt with no other messages, and the system is locked up and requires a system reset and reboot. While I plan on switching back to ACPI, APM worked for a long time on this system and really should still work. I recall reports of APM problems on Stable a while back, but I thought that the problem had been resolved. -- R. Kevin Oberman, Network Engineer Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) Ernest O. Have a Dell Inspiron 8500 and tried upgrading from 256 MB to 2048 MB and the FreeBSD 5.3 Release can't seem to handle it, complaining about the Ethernet and IRQ conflicts in general and an inability to do a dump, where it then just shuts down. Try upgrading ata_all.c to version 1.233 from CVS. That fixed suspend for me. Whether you'll have problems with resume is another question entirely... Dave Kevin Oberman wrote: > > Hmmm.
