I'm sure that you used to be able to get there from the 'Latest Release' page linked from the start: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.1R/announce.html I've found what I was after on the Get FreeBSD page, but since this is the 4th time I've done this in as many weeks, I'd suggest that it's not intuitive. Could a link be added? First of all, please note that freebsd-doc is not a help list, but a mailing list devoted to the discussion of our documentation and web-site sources. For general technical questions about every-day operation and usage of FreeBSD, you should post to freebsd-questions in the future. Having said that, FreeBSD includes a fairly recent version of the Sendmail mail transfer agent. There is no /var/smtpd directory or file that is involved in setting up and running Sendmail. Are you trying to configure Sendmail, or some other SMTP daemon? If you are not trying to configure Sendmail, what SMTP daemon does your message refer to and how was it installed on your system? -- Giorgos From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 9 05:33:15 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 832B816A4DD; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 05:33:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from edwin@mavetju.org) Received: from mail2out.barnet.com.au (mail2out.barnet.com.au [202.83.176.14]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1150243D45; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 05:33:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from edwin@mavetju.org) Received: by mail2out.barnet.com.au (Postfix, from userid 27) id 1519A707430; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:33:14 +1000 (EST) X-Viruscan-Id: <44D9738E0000BF305D0195@BarNet> Received: from mail2-auth.barnet.com.au (mail2.barnet.com.au [202.83.176.13]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mail2.barnet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9FDB47073D9; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:33:01 +1000 (EST) Received: from k7.mavetju (k7.mavetju.org [10.251.1.18]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mail2-auth.barnet.com.au (Postfix) with ESMTP id 97A967073E3; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:33:00 +1000 (EST) Received: by k7.mavetju (Postfix, from userid 1001) id D5A28146; Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:32:59 +1000 (EST) Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2006 15:32:59 +1000 From: Edwin Groothuis To: freebsd-www@freebsd.org, freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Message-ID: <20060809053259.GC52566@k7.mavetju> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.2.1i Cc: Subject: Multimedia event list X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Aug 2006 05:33:15 -0000 Hi, After the announcement this morning about the BAFUG presentation, and going through my collection of *BSD related podcasts (BSDTalk, FreeBSD for All), and seeing my collection of *BSD related links, I was going from "I can keep telling everybody that they can find this there, and that one there", or I can do the job properly once and put an RSS feed on my website with the collection to (Free)BSD related multimedia on the internet. I have made an example at http://people.freebsd.org/~edwin/multimedia/multimedia.html The page (and RSS feed) is compiled from http://people.freebsd.org/~edwin/multimedia/multimedia.xml Is somebody willing to support me to bring this page into the real world? I'm more than willing to maintain it. And as a last note: I currently have limited myself to audio, video and photos, but a fourth type could presentations. I'm not sure if that is something for here, or that it should be part of "Books and Articles Online" at http://www.freebsd.org/docs/books.html. I've written a man-page using mdoc macros for my own little program. I'd like to port the program to other Unixes (like Solaris), where my mdoc-based man page is rather unreadable :-( Is there a standard way to expand the mdoc macros once? `man mdoc' is not giving any useful examples -- I can create a PostScript or an HTML document, but I can't render it in the traditional man :-( Thanks for any hints! I would have thought that groff would have a cpp-like option to just emit raw troff codes. These wouldn't be pretty, but they should be digestible by most troff implementations. I don't see such an option, however. You could, of course go into troff and try to add such an option, but that could range from trivial to impossible, depending on the program's design. Unless someone has written a special-purpose tool, I doubt that you're going to be able to get from mdoc to man format. And, although something like m4 could probably be convinced to do the transformation, coding the macros would not be a task for the timid. -r -- http://www.cfcl.com/rdm Rich Morin http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/resume rdm@cfcl.com http://www.cfcl.com/rdm/weblog +1 650-873-7841 Technical editing and writing, programming, and web development From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Aug 12 11:48:26 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D916316A4DD for ; Sat, 12 Aug 2006 11:48:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from ady@fwd.ady.ro) Received: from nf-out-f131.google.com (nf-out-f131.google.com [64.233.182.131]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AAA0943D5E for ; Sat, 12 Aug 2006 11:48:12 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ady@fwd.ady.ro) Received: by nf-out-f131.google.com with SMTP id l6so58183nfa for ; Sat, 12 Aug 2006 04:48:11 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.78.127.6 with SMTP id z6mr2555780huc; Sat, 12 Aug 2006 04:48:10 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.78.159.8 with HTTP; Sat, 12 Aug 2006 04:48:10 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <9e01a0da0608120448t7a82d8b9y8379a194d8d14a52@mail.gmail.com> Date: Sat, 12 Aug 2006 14:48:10 +0300 From: "Adrian Penisoara" Sender: ady@fwd.ady.ro To: "Simon L. I think at least part of it should make it into the FreeBSD Security Information page ( http://www.freebsd.org/security/ ) since currently there is just a simple reference towards VuXML for ports security. I think what the manpage tries to state is that you can: - move a file to a file - move a file to a directory - move a directory inside another directory but you cannot - move a directory on top of a non-directory object. Perhaps, we should remove it and write something like the above text?
