GRUB also fails with an error message on inconsistant filesystem. This occurs on two drives of the same line to rule out a specific drive problem. A basic Debian install boots correctly and the drives are perfectly usable when newfs'd directly (without an MBR or bsdlabel). sysinstall seems to also lower the cylinder portion considerably, to (from my foggy memory) what looks to be the max positive value of a signed 16bit int, though I don't think it is the source of the problem. >How-To-Repeat: Install FreeBSD 6.1 or 6.0 onto a drive of model: Seagate ST3320620A >Fix: Strangely using GAG off a livecd will bootstrap it fine, but any other method does not, requiring another drive as the boot drive. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 17 04:19:31 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 687C916A4DD; It sets some limits on other scripts, which started in this wrapper. Program makes syscall setrlimit() with RLIMIT_CPU, RLIMIT_NPROC limitations and than starts some perl script like this: #!/usr/bin/perl while(1){;} This program eats CPU and dies after few seconds depending on RLIMIT_CPU parameter. There is no problem - everything correct. But there is no string in log files about process killing. I expect the following string in logs: pid 32429 (perl5.8.7), uid 0, was killed: exceeded maximum CPU limit but it's empty. Talking about RLIMIT_NPROC limit - everything Ok. I've tested this script on old 5.2.1-RELEASE FreeBSD... there was no questions... everything Ok too. >How-To-Repeat: >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jul 17 20:39:24 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2B07B16A5F6; Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:23 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6771243D5C; Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:22 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (remko@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k6HKdMUr024550; Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:22 GMT (envelope-from remko@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from remko@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k6HKdMw5024546; Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:22 GMT (envelope-from remko) Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:22 GMT From: Remko Lodder Message-Id: <200607172039.k6HKdMw5024546@freefall.freebsd.org> To: remko@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-bin@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: bin/100089: [FTP]: default ftp application of FreeBSD gives segmentation fault X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2006 20:39:24 -0000 Old Synopsis: default ftp application of FreeBSD gives segmentation fault New Synopsis: [FTP]: default ftp application of FreeBSD gives segmentation fault Responsible-Changed-From-To: freebsd-i386->freebsd-bin Responsible-Changed-By: remko Responsible-Changed-When: Mon Jul 17 20:38:22 UTC 2006 Responsible-Changed-Why: Reassign to the BIN category, this is not a security issue in our eyes (secteam) but might be a bug in the FTP application. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=100089 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Jul 18 02:50:15 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 24EF716A4DD for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:50:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8DD3843D4C for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:50:14 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id k6I2oEXo054555 for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:50:14 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id k6I2oEwA054554; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:50:14 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Resent-Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:50:14 GMT Resent-Message-Id: <200607180250.k6I2oEwA054554@freefall.freebsd.org> Resent-From: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org (GNATS Filer) Resent-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Resent-Reply-To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org, Angus Wang Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 21D9816A4DA for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:42:44 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (www.freebsd.org [216.136.204.117]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A9AA243D4C for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:42:43 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from nobody@FreeBSD.org) Received: from www.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1) with ESMTP id k6I2ghI7051098 for ; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:42:43 GMT (envelope-from nobody@www.freebsd.org) Received: (from nobody@localhost) by www.freebsd.org (8.13.1/8.13.1/Submit) id k6I2ghLE051097; Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:42:43 GMT (envelope-from nobody) Message-Id: <200607180242.k6I2ghLE051097@www.freebsd.org> Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2006 02:42:43 GMT From: Angus Wang To: freebsd-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org X-Send-Pr-Version: www-2.3 Cc: Subject: i386/100460: Maybe the 6.0 Release is not much more than the 5.3 Release on file system. The other two soft tested shows the same resuls. Maybe there is something wrong during my testing, please explains for me.
