We've been running CruiseControl on 6.2-STABLE for a while without issues, and about a week ago (after the box was rebooted into a new kernel) started to see java processes consuming 100% CPU. I have confirmed that the problem doesn't occur when I use the Linux JDK. So something has changed; what I cannot tell (I've tried to find any kernel commits that may be related) is exactly where. I've seen the followup posts regarding reader/writer processes - I'm just not sure this bug is limited to the Java exec(), but perhaps it is tickled by it. To reproduce, I've compiled CruiseControl (from sourceforge) and it hangs during the running of unit tests, whereas with the Linux JVM it doesn't. I think we may have a real bug here. Sorry I can't give more precise information - I'm still investigating. Cheers Tim. I eventually fixed it by rebuilding all libraries under 7, otherwise u can try installing the compat6x port. I eventually fixed it by rebuilding all libraries under 7, otherwise u can try installing the compat6x port. nope, this is a completely clean 7 install, starting from cvsup-sources as of Oct 11 (were still -current at that time I guess). Anyway, the good news is that the MFC of rev 1.35 of intr_machdep.c (amd64) seems to solve, or at least alleviate, the problem : no more never seen before errors while running test for about a day now. Before they showed up rather quickly. I as well use hand-mfced version 1.287-289 for kern_fork.c, but without rev 1.35 of intr_machdep.c that didn't matter. Could releng_6 need as well this "Extend critical section coverage" since I see the same problems on (my one and only) 2x2way releng_6 with jdk15? Does java1[56] works at core2duo machines? I have tried all combinations with my new ASUS F3Jr notebook (C2D T5300@1700MHz/ 2Gb RAM/160Gb HDD) and get same results with recent 6.3/i386, 7.0-BETA3/i386, 7.0-BETA3/amd64, 8.0/i386, 8.0/amd64, with SCHED_ULE and with SCHED_4BSD - Diablo-JDK doesn't work at all with message "Can not find libjava.so", linux-sun-jdk15 installs and works, but any attemps to build native jdk with ports fails with same error. For comparison, with my desktop machine (old iP4-2.2Ghz/no sse3/no ht/1G RAM) native jdk was build and run smoothly under 8.0/i386, but compiled package from this machine fails to run on notebook with same error, "Can not find libjava.so". -- Π”ΠΌΠΈΡ‚Ρ€ΠΈΠΉ А. At this time, it only linux-sun-jdk15, because diablo-jdk fails to run with same error message (and only on this notebook with C2D T5300 proc, on other older single-core machines it run correctly). And compiled native jdk from my desktop (same OS version, SAME sources, same make.conf, old iP4/socket478 2GHz proc) also doesn't start on this notebook with same message about libjava.so! I suspect libptherad (which is libthr) is root of the evil on multi-core processors in this case > Java needs a working JavaVM to compile itself currently. I spotted this patch wrt my .exec() problems. Quick recall : I get strange exceptions in java-code doing quite a lot of .exec() calls, but only on 2x2way SMP, not on UP or single CPU SMP. I get these problems under releng_6 as well, but 'my' only 2x2way SMP box is a production server I cannot test on. Seeing this patch, I retested on a 2x2 SMP box running releng_7(amd64) libmapping libthr.so.3 to libkse.so.3 for /usr/local/jdk1.5.0/bin/java_g. I use the attached test-program (adapted after gentile remarks of Nate Williams; I hope there's not yet another program error in it but it does run flawlessly with libthr). Running it like "/usr/local/jdk1.5.0/bin/java_g Test_cmd /tmp 0 " it will produce a java_g.core after a number of iterations with exit status 139. Both with and without the above patch applied (to releng_7) the gdb trace shows (I recompiled libkse with -g as well, but no line-numbers showing up ) : gdb -core java_g.core /usr/local/jdk1.5.0/bin/java_g GNU gdb 6.1.1 [FreeBSD] Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
