Some of them are especially old and if not searched explicitly, probably these just remain unnoticed. The XML migration and the improvements we are doing is a great occasion to clean this up now before we go on to rename files. I paste a list of stale files per each translation here. I'm also CC'ing a member of each translation project. Can I remove these? Ok, please note that I'm not arguing about its right to be there any more I just see this is a special case and I would like to clarify things. Some people thought before that translations should only carry things that are translated from the en_US tree. I don't strictly agree with this and I think if it is useful for users, it should be there even if there's no corresponding document in en_US. But it seems that the same document is available on Internet in English and if it is useful for Italian folks, it is probably useful for everyone else. So I think we should consider integrating it into the en_US tree as well. But I have some other type of concerns... Did you check the license when adding this books? The English document I found says: "All rights reserved. You may reproduce all or parts of this document for personal, non-commercial use, so long as you attribute the work to the authors." But it does not say anything about modifications. What would you do if an Italian reader reports a bug or sends you an addition? Are we allowed to modify this document? If it is in the doc tree it should be treated like the rest of our documents. I don't know about any "read only" article or book in our tree. It would be nice to make it clear how we can deal with such special cases. I assume the reasoning is that a high kern.hz setting makes the VM host software spend too much time on handling timer interrupts. However, in FreeBSD 9, the "dynamic tick mode" (AKA "tickless mode") is the default, controlled by the "kern.eventtimer.periodic" setting which defaults to 0 (i.e. tickless mode). This makes me wonder: does the above mentioned part of the manual still have any relevance for FreeBSD 9.0 and newer? -- Frerich Raabe - raabe@froglogic.com www.froglogic.com - Multi-Platform GUI Testing From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Sep 27 17:55:13 2012 Return-Path: Delivered-To: doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 72BD010656EA; Thu, 27 Sep 2012 17:55:13 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gabor@kovesdan.org) Received: from server.mypc.hu (server.mypc.hu [87.229.73.95]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A28328FC1C; Thu, 27 Sep 2012 17:55:07 +0000 (UTC) Received: from server.mypc.hu (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by server.mypc.hu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 93A3D14E8303; Thu, 27 Sep 2012 19:55:06 +0200 (CEST) X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at server.mypc.hu Received: from server.mypc.hu ([127.0.0.1]) by server.mypc.hu (server.mypc.hu [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id HTtA6p_a7nMF; Thu, 27 Sep 2012 19:55:06 +0200 (CEST) Received: from [192.168.1.100] (D94162B4.catv.pool.telekom.hu [217.65.98.180]) (using TLSv1 with cipher DHE-RSA-CAMELLIA256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by server.mypc.hu (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id 19DA514E8302; Thu, 27 Sep 2012 19:55:06 +0200 (CEST) Message-ID: <506492FB.50707@kovesdan.org> Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2012 19:55:07 +0200 From: Gabor Kovesdan User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20120713 Thunderbird/14.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: FBSD Doc project , www@freebsd.org X-Enigmail-Version: 1.4.4 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Subject: [HEADSUP] Next step of XML migration: renaming files X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 27 Sep 2012 17:55:13 -0000 Hi, it seems that everything has gone fine so far and the posterior cleanup is also finished. I tend to believe that especially during the Fall, when weather is nice and car racing and sport racing for you enthusiasts is really great. Texas also has a  penchant for big real estate and this place really fits the bill. The great thing is that you can live here if you choose to and it's less than 10 miles to Texas Motor Speedway and only 45 minutes to the Eagle Canyon Road Racing Circuit for you sports racers. If you're a car guy who loves racing this is a great opportunity. The house is nice, but you also get a 5 car garage that can park an RV or boat, plus 3 additional cars and there's a 30 AMP RV plug as part of the deal. What are you waiting for?**** .... It also fixes an additional name space collision between the kernel function psignal and the libc function of the same name by renaming the kernel psignal kern_psignal(). By introducing this change now we will ease future MFCs that change syscalls.
