In the FreeBSD's manpage, it is mentioned that vfork() first appeared in 2.9BSD. Since 3BSD has a manpage for vfork() and it is released three years earlier, the correct one should be 3BSD. However, there should be compatibility checks such that the old forms (mentioned in the documentation) would still work. I could not tell from your mail, if you tried setting kerberos5_server_enable="YES" and had it not work. > Can the document be corrected? Or is there anything I missed in the document? The document tries to cover all versions of FreeBSD which are currently supported, and whoever makes the change to the document would need to confirm that all versions are covered correctly, whether due to support for the new syntax or by calling out the different behavior in different versions. I think I looked at this particular issues some time ago and concluded that it was easiest to continue to document the old syntax until all supported versions of FreeBSD support the new syntax, but I could certainly revisit that decision. -Ben From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Mar 16 18:15:01 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [8.8.178.115]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 60CFB3F4 for ; Mon, 16 Mar 2015 18:15:01 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mail-wi0-x22d.google.com (mail-wi0-x22d.google.com [IPv6:2a00:1450:400c:c05::22d]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256 (128/128 bits)) (Client CN "smtp.gmail.com", Issuer "Google Internet Authority G2" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D125CC15 for ; Mon, 16 Mar 2015 18:15:00 +0000 (UTC) Received: by wibg7 with SMTP id g7so34511439wib.1 for ; Mon, 16 Mar 2015 11:14:59 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=message-id:reply-to:from:to:subject:date:mime-version:content-type :content-transfer-encoding; bh=+lNeyUHPKMLjt35dgFvCu2QceP2WlKVBGrl5LNiw1nA=; b=E+WN9+mozcEnMUzAz08YxTYdbmGvGiCeFpblMdMxm+A9e4Ie9GUZHElcL2u0GFppf/ ZKLaV1d5nahMO646I9d1yxhlssoGxeEAzjk+Z8nGgf+8ANH6aa8UOs+a8ITVPApTFLJL KpKF4yE+XIqX8YW4XW6bMczH8NyTG1QvBxeHA7lulZFcgxX1VcbdPH00NQTg/EPpx6lf 5y3cjpAiZ9h7K9ZtbN47ZhF6tfdI1JOIFzFsGIE/HNMF4OMNwVf3ceypyAOWujKOKUMJ Bf6VlDyMcfcQJtUtDsZYvlix+kDCK1D24aY48q0ounzvZMVjf17fxtGwtSgpdB6lPP3Z 9AHQ== X-Received: by 10.180.95.97 with SMTP id dj1mr123587228wib.43.1426529699407; Mon, 16 Mar 2015 11:14:59 -0700 (PDT) Received: from almani ([5.222.59.233]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPSA id hn8sm16395485wib.18.2015.03.16.11.14.56 for (version=TLSv1 cipher=RC4-SHA bits=128/128); Mon, 16 Mar 2015 11:14:57 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <017301d7-42079-01579061909954@almani> Reply-To: "Global Researchers Journals" From: "Global Researchers Journals" To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Subject: Call for Paper {March 2015 | Vol 05-Issue 03} Date: Mon, 16 Mar 2015 21:44:58 +0330 X-Priority: 3 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.18-1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 16 Mar 2015 18:15:01 -0000 Call for Paper Dear Colleagues You are cordially invited to submit or recommend papers to: [1]http://www.grjournals.com (March 2015 (Volume 05 | Issue 03) Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology Advances (JPPA) [2]http://grjournals.com/Default.aspx?tabid=6537 · Journal of Animal Production Advances (JAPA) [3]http://grjournals.com/Default.aspx?tabid=6538 Journal of Animal Science Advances (JASA) [4]http://grjournals.com/Default.aspx?tabid=6401 Journal of Veterinary Advances (JVA) [5]http://grjournals.com/Default.aspx?tabid=6536 Journal of Recent Advances in Agriculture (JRAA) [6]http://grjournals.com/Default.aspx?tabid=6878 Global Researchers Journals, a fast track peer-reviewed and open access academic journal published by Grjournals Publishing, which is one of the largest open access journal publishers around the world Grjournals is using online article submission, review and tracking system for quality and quick review processing. I would like to propose an improvement to the LOGGER(1) entry: https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=logger%281%29 Where it reads: *-f* *file* Log the specified file. For clarification it should read: *-f* *file* Log the contents of specified file. This option cannot be combined with a command-line message. I struggled for some time with this parameter and only understood what was going on after reading a GNU version: http://praxis.edoceo.com/man/1/LOGGER Searching on stackexchange and other sites I could see that mistaking the meaning of this flag is quite common. I hope this can be a positve contribuition. Is this worth a PR? There is a CAVEATS section that mentions this issue ... but it's all the way at the end of a long page. I cannot comment about the reasonableness of a more intrusive patch without doing research for which I do not have time at the moment. -Ben From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 21 00:17:52 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id B66C6919 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 00:17:52 +0000 (UTC) Received: from mx1.scaleengine.net (beauharnois2.bhs1.scaleengine.net [142.4.218.15]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E8CE1CA for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 00:17:51 +0000 (UTC) Received: from [192.168.1.2] (Seawolf.HML3.ScaleEngine.net [209.51.186.28]) (Authenticated sender: allanjude.freebsd@scaleengine.com) by mx1.scaleengine.net (Postfix) with ESMTPSA id CBE7A9E54F for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 00:17:50 +0000 (UTC) Message-ID: <550CB8C8.2010808@freebsd.org> Date: Fri, 20 Mar 2015 20:18:16 -0400 From: Allan Jude User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/31.5.0 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: zpool(8) says hot spares work References: <20150318161345.GA5073@mail.michaelwlucas.com> In-Reply-To: Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha1; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="v7rV77WSpUxEunaAU6DjaPs9cVSkxCorL" X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2015 00:17:52 -0000 This is an OpenPGP/MIME signed message (RFC 4880 and 3156) --v7rV77WSpUxEunaAU6DjaPs9cVSkxCorL Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable On 2015-03-20 18:16, Benjamin Kaduk wrote: > On Wed, 18 Mar 2015, Michael W. There are some changes I can see that would be useful upstream, but also some that are specific to FreeBSD and/or the interaction between ZFS and FreeBSD. Obviously these man pages have some local modifications already, for things like the 'jailed' property. What is the proper procedure for making local changes, and how do we sync with upstream? --=20 Allan Jude --v7rV77WSpUxEunaAU6DjaPs9cVSkxCorL Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.22 (MingW32) iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJVDLjLAAoJEJrBFpNRJZKf3/IP/0vPO9E1W/ayMujR0eFAk/A7 KVN0dAkxNyCPRQU3zyi7x4OHuyfw6dG+zx4KNCJ3iwgjqDVE17xcdRNdNi1/4cKx RdDy00zAamtaCICFF4Z00EtEerxN9AFg8kGId0PXsxi3XLCDwLCzMQ9dnDXyTa8m et7rM3KDBxWb1RHQ4BfxXCyOM+T2J56KGX/4cszyxJbmwjNT3OjPYUUfyHYTVU65 p7fN0CLexXpK6WytJPj7+Z8veClvtYBGLDazk0YhsH89iXoShw74MeB1xSzXz+1s OWHUu2Nvskc0SCMHk+nM9uPqgYz8EKs4a2sCruobVUX5fOzBYs6nsSNomwf1YFjm Hf5dxXh75CP2HbVlsrWosWWzqi4Kqttq/beF6bhZiURBW09Z01Mvp7PY1peQGmiZ oYH6QDa7OHEeMUacQR7Es8Sdly6D3UXjD8Ra3S+0eRa1df0QDO7L/fTJCmD4oPRH nUCTwonEv9BKAIQeQr+Zp6hrNIkAz8GyPPWiIdkizEfAINmo2ocn2BfR7xuBdE8r niE5qS5BRuSb0kT+EJ4LxzbbFx+LMyomqybiQfGuR9XqYP8KbU93G4JZS/+ZXP0p 5E/+jvzQNgpEnsOOgxaxuaibLriREnvKDWBBFo6GTTe3CBu3+Fh+B+rH7Iky1Pvn y1FsnhPezyl+AfprExfR =4+5C -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --v7rV77WSpUxEunaAU6DjaPs9cVSkxCorL-- From owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Mar 21 16:50:58 2015 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:1]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher AECDH-AES256-SHA (256/256 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 271D24B6 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 16:50:58 +0000 (UTC) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 0E2B0C91 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 16:50:58 +0000 (UTC) Received: from bugs.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.14.9/8.14.9) with ESMTP id t2LGovdT062814 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2015 16:50:57 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 198097] pkg-install -R ... description is confusing Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2015 16:50:58 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Component: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: mike.543@comcast.net X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Target-Milestone: --- X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.18-1 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2015 16:50:58 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=198097 --- Comment #2 from MikeM --- Ahhh... that makes it clearer. I'm not a wordsmith, but maybe verbiage for the -R option along the lines of: ------------------ reinstalls any out of date packages that require the given package. If you also add the -f flag, it will reinstall dependent packages even if there is not a newer version of that package. ------------------ In any case, thanks for your clarification. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
