I feel honoured to write you this email. my apologies for writing without earlier notice. Pardon my way of writing if you do not fully understand what I have written but be assured that with my best ability i will explain better. I assure you that the sole or very purpose of this mail content is to benefit you and I in all good ways. A user made a fd for twelve months which was valued at 9, 6m in my bank branch. At term-maturity, I sent a routine notification with his information on file but I got no reply. few months later, I sent another notice which didn't return, finally I discovered sadly from his contract employer, a company here in my country, that he died along side with family on the 2003 cotonou plane-air.crash that occurred december. the efforts to locate his people has failed despite the amount of labour I put into it. No one in my work place or else knows anything about this amount because I have always shielded it even from the auditors with my administrative position which makes it to appear as a regular account. your assisting me to move the amount out of my country will be appreciated. It is very secured because with my banking expertise, we will move it with or without your real name to your country or any other country and in a very secured manner. Your most matured suggestion and opinion will be highly appreciated. participating shall benefit you and I highly. thanks. regards, Jacob. I am a Chinese freebsd fan. When I installed samba, I found that the startup command was wrong . My production system is FreeBSD 11.2-RELEASE and the samba version is samba48-4.8.2 . It's "service samba start" In the document [image: image.png] But it is wrong, actually it is "service samba_server start". [image: image.png] I want to correct the document to avoid other people meeting the same problem, causing the service to fail to start. Just wanted to let you know that we cannot see your pictures in this mailing list unless you upload them to some external website and post the link here, and pictures are not usually needed anyway if you could clearly describe what and where the problem is. Also, it is unclear that which "document" you are referencing (Handbook? Man pages?). I would encourage you to register for an account on https://bugs.freebsd.org/ (if you haven't already) and create a Problem Report (PR) so that this can be better kept track of. I hope and guess that this would not be the 'new norm= al'. Is there an easy way to detect this case ? In which cases would it be 'very-bad', in which cases would it be 'unfortunate' ? How many times would the maintainer 'not care' ? Do I understand you correctly that you suspect that it would undermine the role of the maintainer, so that in the long run being a maintainer would not be seen as a useful role ? On the other hand, do we really have the problem that we move too fast ? To be honest, some DEPRECATE and EXPIRE runs in the past ran into oppositio= n... --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Wed Jul 18 19:20:53 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5A28C102EF77 for ; The change you proposes creates a very bad precedent. It would mean that committers are somehow above other people, and can decide to do whatever th= ey want and the maintainer would have to check that the change they wanted to = make to the port that they maintain (and thus, know better than the committer) w= as actually made the way they wanted. The policy in place says that submissions can be linted by committers, and = this is because committers are supposed to know how to use the framework better = than contributors. It is their main reason we have committers, a small group of people who know how the framework works and make sure submissions conform w= ith its policies. But maintainers know their ports better than committers. If a committer want to change something that is not covered by the blanket approval, they can do like every other contributor, create a patch and open= a PR. I do this regularly, I then use the snoozetab firefox extension to rec= all the tab with that PR in two weeks, and then I go do something else while it stews. Then I either get the tab back a couple of weeks later, or get an e= mail from bugzilla if someone commented on the PR to say yes, no or whatever. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Thu Jul 19 08:44:47 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1CD3B10512CA for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:47 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A760D857F4 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 674FB10512C9; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:46 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 55BDE10512C8 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:46 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id EA13F857F2 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 44B8315BE2 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:45 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w6J8ijg5095980 for ; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:45 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w6J8ijH8095979 for doc@FreeBSD.org; Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:45 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229859] Changes to 5.5 submitter/maintainer/committer approval for port submissions/updates Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:45 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Component: Documentation X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: yuri@freebsd.org X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: doc@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-doc@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.27 Precedence: list List-Id: Documentation project List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2018 08:44:47 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D229859 --- Comment #7 from Yuri Victorovich --- Maybe this should be limited to the port submission process, since this is a special case. > Committers will take liberty to extensively check newly submitted ports, > and may fix any issues and make any alterations they see fit before comit= ting > ports. This is about the review: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D10600 (patch to LDAP section of the FreeBSD Handbook) I wrote the text as a newbie, enthusiast user who tried to install an OpenLDAP server, found some difficulties, and wanted to contribute. The style was naive and needed several corrections, that has been made for about the first half, now waiting for a feedback. I don't know anyone and lack some basic information. In order to avoid further errors, I would like to ask, about the review process itself: - Should the configuration presented in the text be tested by someone other than me? - The role of the reviewer is only to notice the possible errors in the style or markup, or can a dialogue/discussion take place? - Till now, the linked text has been read by several developers, each of them finding some flaw, but not knowing the "history" of the issues and their evolution. Is this normal? How does the review process usually get coordination? If someone could give some hint, I would be very grateful. A maintainer spent time working on a port, a committer cannot simply rip everything apart and do whatever they want. When a new port is submitted, a committer has the exact same liberties they= can have than when an update is submitted. They can fix whatever issues are in = the blanket approval, and that is it. Maybe that is not what *you* are doing, but in that case, you are wrong in doing what you are doing. I do not say the maintainer will not want the extra changes you want to mak= e, but they should be consulted first. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-doc@freebsd.org Fri Jul 20 13:40:32 2018 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 559D01045ECB for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (mailman.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::50:5]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id DEA817CF08 for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 9D2CE1045EC6; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:31 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: doc@mailman.ysv.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8B8061045EC0 for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::19:3]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client CN "mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 2AC107CF06 for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:1900:2254:206a::16:76]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.ysv.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6320624BF3 for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.118]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id w6KDeUoF054467 for ; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id w6KDeU5Q054466 for doc@FreeBSD.org; Fri, 20 Jul 2018 13:40:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: doc@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 229539] [PATCH] FDP Primer: Chapter 12.
