Starting with this quarter, reports will be collected during the last month of every quarter (instead of the first month of the next quarter, as was previously the case). Status report submissions do not need to be very long. They may be about anything happening in the FreeBSD project and community, and provide a great way to inform FreeBSD users and developers about work that is underway or has been completed. Report submissions are not limited to committers; anyone doing anything interesting and FreeBSD related can -- and should -- write one! The preferred method is to follow the guidelines at the Quarterly GitHub repository: https://github.com/freebsd/freebsd-quarterly Alternatively you can fetch the Markdown template, fill it in, and email it to quarterly@FreeBSD.org. The template can be found at: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/freebsd/freebsd-quarterly/master/report-sample.md We look forward to seeing your 2019Q4 reports! Thanks, Lorenzo Salvadore (on behalf of quarterly@) From owner-freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Sun Dec 22 21:01:06 2019 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BC7911DD33B for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 47gvz64fR1z3Mxl for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 9EB6F1DD338; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: x11@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9E7451DD337 for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 47gvz63pFsz3MxZ for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.2 with cipher ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384 (256/256 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 7AA6456D7 for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id xBML16aF071408 for ; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from bugzilla@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id xBML1697071407 for x11@FreeBSD.org; Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org) Message-Id: <201912222101.xBML1697071407@kenobi.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: bugzilla set sender to bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@FreeBSD.org To: x11@FreeBSD.org Subject: Problem reports for x11@FreeBSD.org that need special attention Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 +0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.29 X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2019 21:01:06 -0000 To view an individual PR, use: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=(Bug Id). Btw, no blurb is in src or ports UPDATING, relnotes, or errata. Though yes now I see a downrev buldbox issue that maybe you are refer to (they seem to panic, not lock)... https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=241101 https://github.com/FreeBSDDesktop/kms-drm/issues/183 If this is the case, adding some logic to the [meta] pkg, and making a 12.1 pkg would seem to solve. That way none of the release train and progress are held back. It might be possible to bundle and autoselect based on base rev from multiple module KBI/ABI/API revs in one package. Or to point with logic to another pkg repo that is building just kern mods from a set of light VMs. Or some combination. Maybe even put some checks or logic in kld mechanism. Should also see if other kernel modules in ports have this compatibility problem scheme, so to solve all uniformly. NO_PACKAGE seems questionable if the result is that hardware that does work, doesn't, requiring beginner users to build. No worries. > [i915kms] does. > The Xeon E3-1225 v3 machine I'm typing this on attests to it. What is your base revision? It may be different than the above snapshot. It may be different than the above tarball that the pkg tool is downloading. If different, users could fetch and confirm the contents of the tarball, or build the revision. What is your output from kldstat -v | egrep '/.*/' ? Looks like ports head is coming from FreeBSDDesktop, will put a build on todo. There are even much newer iGPU uarch's under fbsd now so looks like something is happening for users :) (Corrected subject to be stable, not releng.) A symlink in the directory is automatically recognized as a fontpath. It makes ports which install a new fontset possible to create a new entry there automatically. This means that the end users do not need to manually configure FontPath in xorg.conf or use "xset fp". Note that this affects only the legacy XLFD-based font management, not newer systems such as fontconfig. I believe this does not break backward compatibility because the patch will add it at the tail of the fontpath list. -- Hiroki ----Next_Part(Thu_Dec_26_03_05_38_2019_659)-- Content-Type: Text/X-Patch; This is a FAQ, and it's in the errata for FreeBSD 12.1. You need to compile drm-kmod locally on FreeBSD 12.1. It is not possible to create a separate 12.1 package, since all packages for 12 are built on 12.0 until 12.0 is EOL. The drm-fbsd12.0-kmod is compatible with 12.1 in that it builds and works on 12.1, it just has to be built on a 12.1 system (same goes for stable). Haswell is supported by the new drm-kmod (it is also the last one that's supported by drm-legacy-kmod, if memory serves). FreeBSD disabled SNA by default for compatibility with pre-SandyBridge on drm-legacy-kmod (previously, in-base drm2), see bug 214593. SNA is also unstable due to I915_USERPTR_UNSYNCHRONIZED, so you may need the patch in bug 236003. While modesetting DDX (part of xorg-server) is recommended over xf86-video-intel the version in ports/ is very old (may lack some PCI IDs) and may have bugs with LIBGL_DRI3_ENABLE=1 (upstream default). So try both. Now a week away from the day job trying to Install gcc onto FreeBSD 12 onto Oracle VirtualBox on a MicroSoft Windows Server. First mis-event was trying for gcc needed compiler. It was very unhappy for a long list of needs bison, binutils, perl to name a FEW. Often in the 'make' the FBSD12 crashed and needed restart. On one iteration (and I lost the link) I had found what appeared to make-build- install that knew how to get the dependencies. Would welcome a clue. My main worry is we may have missed some Vbox steps, fixes, wisdom to accommodate FBSD installation. Don't want to keep crashing my FreeBSD.
