I installed the xfce meta-package, and slim. I then added startxfce4 to my ~/.xinitrc file && bounced the box. I was able to login via slim, starting the xfce4 session. I then logged out, and later restarted the computer. I have never seen this happen and the= re are a bunch of possible causes. You flagged this bug as "affects some people", do you have actual reports f= rom other people having the same issue? One thing that could help is if you could rebuild the xfce4-session port wi= th debugging support. It can be done by setting WITH_DEBUG_PORTS=3Dx11-wm/xfce4-session in the relevant make.conf in poudri= ere or the one in /etc for locally built ports. With that you could extract a backtrace from the core dump which could shed some light. Without a backtrace there's really no way of knowing why it has crashed. Are you using official binary packages? your own package set built using to= ols like poudriere or building ports on the live system? Are you using any custom options? If you are building local ports, I'd ask you to try rebuilding at least xfce4-sesion, but also others could be needed. The world has become much mo= re complex than years ago and building ports on a live system has become an unreliable process causing strange local breakage. This sometimes can be "fixed" by rebuilding the right part. ANother thing that comes to my mind is you say you're using slim. slim is an unmaintained software and has seen no development for years, in the while t= he Xorg world has gone forward and things have really changed in the session management world. I'd ask you to test using a modern display manager light LightDM and see if= the issue happens with that too. I hope these pointers can give you ideas on how to diagnose the issue. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Wed Mar 18 23:10:50 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C887827049F for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48jQkf52F6z3Hn7 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 478FA27049E; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:50 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3C28A27049D for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48jQkd3Bfgz3HlL for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6405315B7 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:49 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02INAnEt065777 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:49 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02INAnR4065776 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:49 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244894] x11-wm/xfce4-session: dumps core immediately after startup Date: Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:49 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: portmaster@bsdforge.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:10:50 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244894 --- Comment #2 from Chris Hutchinson --- (In reply to Guido Falsi from comment #1) Thanks for the reply, Guido! One test worth a t= ry would be to upgrade to the latest package set and check if the bug still happens. > So. I decided to test against slim; > pkg install icewm > echo icewm-session>~/.xinitrc > bounce box > login via slim. Which presents the IceWM desktop. Everything > works fine. IceWM still works. So I think we can rule out slim. This is not completely true. If xfce4-session dumps core it's probable it has a bug somewhere, but this = bug could be triggered by slim, and not triggered by another display manager. So while your test proves that slim does it's job for IceWM it does not prove = that slim is not doing something wrong which upsets xfce4-session. Please try with another display manager. I can try making a test with a setup similar to yours in a virtual machine,= but even if I can reproduce your bug I'm not an xfce4 developer. I'd suggest you file a bug report upstream, but then again without a backtrace of the crash they can do very little. Understanding what is going wrong without a backtr= ace is like divination. > I have no ports(7) or source tree on this box. Are you suggesting > that I build everything from source? Is there no flag I can > append to xfce4-session that might make more noise in the log(s) > and perhaps provide more clues? If you want to extract some backtrace information which could at least indi= cate in which part of the code xfce-session is crashing there is no other option than building it with debug enabled. I can try to reproduce your bug and in that case build with debugging enabled and test that. But it will require t= ime, at least some days, providing I can reproduce the bug. And no, I don't know of any special flag, in fact I know relatively little about xfce4-session, of which I'm just a user actually. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Wed Mar 18 23:57:53 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5535A2712DB for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48jRmx0Wtnz3PYP for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id E1E4D2712DA; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:52 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E11362712D9 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48jRmw1PCPz3PWY for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:52 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id EE5EB1ED0 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:51 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02INvpnx009842 for ; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:51 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02INvpnc009841 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:51 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244894] x11-wm/xfce4-session: dumps core immediately after startup Date: Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:52 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Some People X-Bugzilla-Who: madpilot@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 18 Mar 2020 23:57:53 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244894 --- Comment #4 from Guido Falsi --- (In reply to Chris Hutchinson from comment #2) I now really notice this is happening on every second login. To make sure I understand. Your first xfce login works and all the ones aft= er that fail, even after a reboot. Correct? Looks like something gets into your xfce configuration that causes the cras= h. Another idea, which locale are you using? Could be a locale related bug. Right you are! I've been trying to ferret out some clues as to what the underlying cause may be. So after a failed session (xfce4-session core dump), which is *always* the second attempt to login. I delete all xfce4 related articles from ~/.cache/ && ~/.config/, and lo everything works again! After even further investigation. I have been able to get the Desktop, and related icons upon the second login. I am also able to right-click on the Desktop to perform additional operations. But Panel is *not* functioning, and it appears that it is due to compositor. I'm going to now take your advise, and try all of this with lightdm. I'll report back shortly. Up-arrow works from a FreeBSD text console, and it works in TWM. I renamed my ~/.config directory out of the way and tried xfce4 once more; = this didn't fix the problem. I removed arrow-key bindings in the Window Manager settings, stopped and restarted everything; no joy. There are now three users on this item, so this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 08:34:41 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0BF0025ACE1 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (mailman.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48kv8J6ZpFz3Lyc for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id E1C4925ACE0; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E183E25ACDF for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48kv8J5lmVz3LyY for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id BC68C9E39 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02L8YeBl034490 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02L8YeYc034489 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244290] x11-wm/xfce4 does not see up arrow after reinstall Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:40 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: jethro@jethron.id.au X-Bugzilla-Status: New X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: cc Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 08:34:41 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244290 Jethro Nederhof changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |jethro@jethron.id.au --- Comment #2 from Jethro Nederhof --- Also experiencing this issue. Temporary workaround: XFCE Settings > Keyboard > Application Shortcuts > Selecting the 'Print' shortcut for 'xfce-screenshooter' and removing that option (it is a default entry in XFCE) restores the up-arrow after restarting the session. But presumably PrtScn will now no longer take screenshots? With the default in place and the evdev keyboard input driver you get this = PR behaviour where it registers it as some kind of input, but not up arrow (cursors, scroll bars etc seem to 'flash' as a focus change or something wh= en you press the key, but 'up' never registers). Switching to libinput makes the up-arrow actually try to run xfce-screensho= oter which gives me an error (because I don't have that installed) which led me = to this workaround. Why evdev doesn't try to run shooter and give the error, b= ut disabling that shortcut still fixes the problem, is a different question... --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 09:29:23 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id E0ACA25C087 for ; It is only an issue after XFCE is launched and with that Keyboard Shortcut enabled. Outside XFC= E it is fine, or with that shortcut disabled it is fine. I have no xorg config after 20-evdev-kbd.conf except 40-libinput.conf, and commenting them each out only gave me the earlier behaviour I mentioned whe= re it properly tries to actually launch xfce-screenshooter. I haven't tried the solution from comment #3 because I don't have setxkbmap and don't want to install it for something that should "just work", (and does work if I disab= le that shortcut). So I guess for me the problem is a subset of this issue, and more like "up arrow triggers Print action in xfce4 instead of up-arrow" --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 11:48:35 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2E52F25FD9D for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:35 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (mailman.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48kzS24rmZz4bhK for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 9550325FD9C; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:32 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9408F25FD9B for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48kzS02HCgz4bfT for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:31 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 51D09C3D7 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:30 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02LBmUvp001896 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02LBmUCp001895 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:30 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244290] x11-wm/xfce4 does not see up arrow after reinstall Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:29 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: aryeh.friedman@gmail.com X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:48:35 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244290 --- Comment #11 from aryeh.friedman@gmail.com --- (In reply to Jethro Nederhof from comment #10) Out of all the suggested solutions both here and in the mailing list thread= the setxkbmap is the one that is: 1. The most universal (there have reports of other WM's doing the same thin= g as xfce4 and this is a one size fits all solution) 2. It is the one that "just works" and is the most transparent to the GUI/applications/user 3. It by far the simplest and most persistent I stand by comment I made in the mail thread that the entire thing is a CLUSTERF*CK but the simplest solution is to completely wipe and reinstall X= org, XFCE4 and do the solution suggested (all others are true hacks). --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 11:54:27 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AD2E225FFE0 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48kzZq0Sh8z4fjm for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 0CD6725FFDD; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:27 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0AED825FFDC for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:27 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48kzZp6RvFz4fjb for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id D2414C597 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:26 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02LBsQqO019685 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:26 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02LBsQWk019682 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:26 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244290] x11-wm/xfce4 does not see up arrow after reinstall Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:26 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: madpilot@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 11:54:27 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244290 --- Comment #12 from Guido Falsi --- (In reply to aryeh.friedman from comment #11) As I have already stated, I have no clue, so I'm not proposing solutions. What I was asking if you "tested" some changes whch had an effect for other people. I really don't understand you point about "just working". We would all like everything to "just work" and sometimes they do, some others they don't. In your case it does not "just work" and a solution is needed. Testing with xbkconf may not rate as a solution but could be a test to see how things wo= rk out. Apart from this if for any reason your setup maps keys differently than oth= er systems xkbconf could be the only solution. The xev output shows the key giving a different result. One interesting test would be to test in xev with another window manager (t= wm for example) to see if the key is read correctly there by xev. I don't know the internals of xfce parts. I only upgraded the ports and try= to keep them working. I don't know if there is something fiddling with the inp= ut and have no idea where to start to look for that. I'm trying to help you, but since I'm not experiencing this issue I can only ask you to perform some operation to give me a clue. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 11:54:59 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9D8AC260003 for ; I can easily enable/disable the issue now so if I can help test any further solutions I'm happy to help. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 12:09:17 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AC84D261010 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:17 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (unknown [127.0.1.3]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48kzvw4Dm4z3yLL for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 1817226100F; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:16 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 17C2326100E for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:16 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48kzvv5ycZz3yKM for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 7D65EC7C0 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:15 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02LC9FC6006189 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:15 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02LC9FAV006177 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:15 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244290] x11-wm/xfce4 does not see up arrow after reinstall Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:15 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: madpilot@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:17 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244290 --- Comment #16 from Guido Falsi --- After a quick look I'd say xfce is doing some default binding with the arrow keys. up and down ones at least. I have no idea which xfce component and which library function they may be calling to perform such mapping. Even grepping the sources is not going to = help much, since I don't know what to grep and where. I'd suggest you file a bug report in the xfce bugzilla, describing the prob= lem in simple terms. You should also state FreeBSD changed the Xorg default bac= kend for input events. You should also state we are looking for some clue, maybe some XFCE develop= er with better knowledge of the code base can point us in the right direction. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.= From owner-freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org Sat Mar 21 12:09:43 2020 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 98B1D261037 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:43 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (mailman.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:13]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 48kzwQ5nzSz3ysY for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:42 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) id 6EF07261036; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:41 +0000 (UTC) Delivered-To: xfce@mailman.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mailman.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 6E646261035 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:41 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:3]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits) client-digest SHA256) (Client CN "mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org", Issuer "Let's Encrypt Authority X3" (verified OK)) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 48kzwP19twz3ypk for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:40 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org (kenobi.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::50:1d]) (using TLSv1.3 with cipher TLS_AES_256_GCM_SHA384 (256/256 bits) server-signature RSA-PSS (4096 bits)) (Client did not present a certificate) by mxrelay.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTPS id 6F311C7C5 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:39 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: from kenobi.freebsd.org ([127.0.1.5]) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2) with ESMTP id 02LC9dfo023925 for ; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) Received: (from www@localhost) by kenobi.freebsd.org (8.15.2/8.15.2/Submit) id 02LC9dh5023920 for xfce@FreeBSD.org; Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:39 GMT (envelope-from bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org) X-Authentication-Warning: kenobi.freebsd.org: www set sender to bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org using -f From: bugzilla-noreply@freebsd.org To: xfce@FreeBSD.org Subject: [Bug 244290] x11-wm/xfce4 does not see up arrow after reinstall Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:39 +0000 X-Bugzilla-Reason: AssignedTo X-Bugzilla-Type: changed X-Bugzilla-Watch-Reason: None X-Bugzilla-Product: Ports & Packages X-Bugzilla-Component: Individual Port(s) X-Bugzilla-Version: Latest X-Bugzilla-Keywords: X-Bugzilla-Severity: Affects Only Me X-Bugzilla-Who: madpilot@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Status: Open X-Bugzilla-Resolution: X-Bugzilla-Priority: --- X-Bugzilla-Assigned-To: xfce@FreeBSD.org X-Bugzilla-Flags: maintainer-feedback+ X-Bugzilla-Changed-Fields: Message-ID: In-Reply-To: References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Bugzilla-URL: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/ Auto-Submitted: auto-generated MIME-Version: 1.0 X-BeenThere: freebsd-xfce@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.29 Precedence: list List-Id: XFCE for FreeBSD -- porting and maintaining List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 21 Mar 2020 12:09:43 -0000 https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=3D244290 --- Comment #17 from Guido Falsi --- (In reply to Jethro Nederhof from comment #15) No offense taken! --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.=
