I set mine fairly to start early (eg: Interval = 60).  If the connection has dropped then even the first probe will cause tcp to do its retries and lead to a connection drop. When I was commuting on shuttles and rail, I did this on the client side (~/.ssh/config with ServerAlive* probes) for different reasons.  The (overloaded) router would drop connections that seemed idle.  Sending probes helped prevent that - or at least making the router drop somebody else's instead. -Peter From nobody Mon Mar 6 21:04:37 2023 X-Original-To: freebsd-net@mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2610:1c1:1:606c::19:1]) by mlmmj.nyi.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4PVrgT4C4lz3wNHB for ; Mon, 6 Mar 2023 21:04:53 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from n6t@oscar.emu.st) Received: from f3.bushwire.net (smtp1.bushwire.net [IPv6:2403:580a:8087:0:203:0:120:11]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4PVrgR3CVYz4bZ3 for ; Mon, 6 Mar 2023 21:04:50 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from n6t@oscar.emu.st) Authentication-Results: mx1.freebsd.org; dkim=fail ("headers rsa verify failed") header.d=emu.st header.s=2019 header.b=j6+B95uO; spf=pass (mx1.freebsd.org: domain of n6t@oscar.emu.st designates 2403:580a:8087:0:203:0:120:11 as permitted sender) smtp.mailfrom=n6t@oscar.emu.st; dmarc=none Received: by f3.bushwire.net (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 3B9463B227; Tue, 7 Mar 2023 07:04:37 +1000 (AEST) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/simple; d=emu.st; s=2019; t=1678136677; bh=rB0GBtEjrCRsN77N172wmhMmNTc=; h=Comments:Received:From:Comments:Message-ID:Date:Content-Type: Content-Transfer-Encoding:Subject:Content-Disposition:Mime-Version: References:To:In-Reply-To; b=j6+B95uOwMwhlydoFuya20CgJmbolC1MXRza88s5XB0PJvD4CZVl3MJ/rLGW5Q7yP t5C0bS5RNeS9J65onJvUw/7WJVYax8QBgESeD4fZY918CaqaO48PTez0g7dF0Ir9Ui f40Q0ZKfTyAARkcDFNnqhMY+TO+gEwwjmFA3Me0E=A3Me0E= Comments: QMDA 0.3a Received: (qmail 18322 invoked by uid 1001); 6 Mar 2023 21:04:37 -0000 From: "Mark Delany" Comments: QMDASubmit submit() 0.2.0-final Message-ID: <0.2.0-final-1678136677.164-0xb079cd@qmda.emu.st> Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2023 21:04:37 +0000 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Subject: Re: sshd doesn't disconnect for 30+ minutes after the TCP connection is closed ungracefully Content-Disposition: inline List-Id: Networking and TCP/IP with FreeBSD List-Archive: https://lists.freebsd.org/archives/freebsd-net List-Help: List-Post: List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: Sender: owner-freebsd-net@freebsd.org Mime-Version: 1.0 References: <08DDB90C-5D30-40A3-86C0-87021959F04D@freebsd.org> <49CE5046-7934-414C-9B62-F3712DECBA52@karels.net> <540652d7-953b-12bc-42cc-982d4dd85849@wemm.org> To: freebsd-net@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: <540652d7-953b-12bc-42cc-982d4dd85849@wemm.org> X-Spamd-Result: default: False [-1.63 / 15.00]; R_DKIM_REJECT(1.00)[emu.st:s=2019]; NEURAL_HAM_LONG(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_MEDIUM(-1.00)[-1.000]; NEURAL_HAM_SHORT(-0.93)[-0.934]; MV_CASE(0.50)[]; R_SPF_ALLOW(-0.20)[+ip6:2403:580a:8087::0/48]; MIME_GOOD(-0.10)[text/plain]; RCVD_NO_TLS_LAST(0.10)[]; ARC_NA(0.00)[]; FROM_EQ_ENVFROM(0.00)[]; MLMMJ_DEST(0.00)[freebsd-net@freebsd.org]; MIME_TRACE(0.00)[0:+]; DKIM_TRACE(0.00)[emu.st:-]; MID_RHS_MATCH_FROMTLD(0.00)[]; RCPT_COUNT_ONE(0.00)[1]; FROM_HAS_DN(0.00)[]; ASN(0.00)[asn:4764, ipnet:2403:5800::/27, country:AU]; TO_MATCH_ENVRCPT_ALL(0.00)[]; DMARC_NA(0.00)[emu.st]; TO_DN_NONE(0.00)[]; RCVD_COUNT_TWO(0.00)[2] X-Rspamd-Queue-Id: 4PVrgR3CVYz4bZ3 X-Spamd-Bar: - X-ThisMailContainsUnwantedMimeParts: N On 06Mar23, Peter Wemm allegedly wrote: > (~/.ssh/config with ServerAlive* probes) for different reasons.  The > (overloaded) router would drop connections that seemed idle.  Sending > probes helped prevent that - or at least making the router drop somebody > else's instead. After settings txque= ues and rxqueues in kenv, the adapters work. The only problem is that when they are in lagg interface with laggproto failover, then when one of the link fails, the default gateway is not recha= ble until I ping it (like if gratituous ARP is not being sent. But this can be a problem of the UniFi switch the box is connected to). The other problem is = that the link comes up to only 1Gbps, even if plugged into 10Gbps copper transceiver. --=20 You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
