Macker) Subject: IMM 3.5a1 Alpha Release and Test Cc: wkd@HAWAII.EDU Hello All: There is a new release, imm3.5a1, of the IMM reliable image dissemination application available at ftp://ftp.hawaii.edu/paccom/imm-3.5a1. IMM3.5a1 has been redesigned to include a number of new features. There is an sdr plug-in included which needs to be installed and will show up under media as image when sdr is launched. Presently binaries are available for a few platforms (irix, solaris, netbsd). Source is now available on the site also. SunOS should build with the Makefile provided. This code is not compatible with previous versions of IMM so please make sure the latest versions of imm and immserv are in your path. USUAL WARNING STUFF: The source code is alpha code and bug reports and porting assistance to presently unsupported platforms would be appreciated. It will also most likely change frequently over the next few months. xv and/or xloadimage are presently required for display of compressed image files or you can provide your own postprocessor desired if desired or just turn on archiving. While IMM is a generic reliable multicast file dissemination application, it presently will not launch from sdr without xv or xloadimage resident locally. This will be modified in a future release. See http://tonnant.itd.nrl.navy.mil/ipresearch/imm.html for more info. An initial MBone test session will be announced on sdr between now and 10am US EST tomorrow Tuesday, Nov 18, 1996 as "IMM 3.5a1 Test". This initial test should extend for a few days with around a 15 minute period between file updates. An Internet Draft of the informational type has been put out as ftp://ds.internic.net/internet-drafts/draft-macker-mdp-framework-00.txt. After soem of my favorite RealAudio sites went to only serving 3.0 streams. So after looking on realaudio's home page and seeing there is no 3 version of the player for freebsd yet. But they have a linux version, both a.out and elf. I got both and tryed them out on my 2.2-961006-SNAP machine and they both work. The a.out complians about libary versions and that some of my X libs are the worng format(which they are). The elf version gave one lib error which I fixxed with a symlink, it wanted libg++.so.27, i think. Plus for each realaudio clip there are about 2-3 ioctl errors given but I don't have handy right now. But it seems to work. Just think you all would like to know about this. -- John Murray -=- jmurray@vt.edu johns@tmbg.org -=- http://acm.vt.edu/~jmurray New Music by They Might Be Giants! ->http://jmurray.campus.vt.edu/tmbg/ The Unofficial Pritchard Home Page ->http://csugrad.cs.vt.edu/~murray/pritchard From owner-freebsd-multimedia Wed Nov 20 00:25:14 1996 Return-Path: owner-multimedia Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id AAA14124 for multimedia-outgoing; Wed, 20 Nov 1996 00:25:14 -0800 (PST) Received: from alpha.xerox.com (alpha.Xerox.COM [13.1.64.93]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with SMTP id AAA14094 for ; Wed, 20 Nov 1996 00:25:10 -0800 (PST) Received: from crevenia.parc.xerox.com ([13.2.116.11]) by alpha.xerox.com with SMTP id <15598(3)>; Tue, 19 Nov 1996 22:07:27 PST Received: from localhost by crevenia.parc.xerox.com with SMTP id <177558>; Tue, 19 Nov 1996 22:07:20 -0800 To: Denis DeLaRoca 825-4580 (310) cc: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: Re: (Copy) IMM 3.5a1 Alpha Release and Test In-reply-to: Your message of "Mon, 18 Nov 96 17:44:00 PST." <199611190145.RAA04517@freefall.freebsd.org> Date: Tue, 19 Nov 1996 22:07:20 PST From: Bill Fenner Message-Id: <96Nov19.220720pst.177558@crevenia.parc.xerox.com> Sender: owner-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk In message <199611190145.RAA04517@freefall.freebsd.org> you write: >With minor tuning of the Makefile and a couple of source modules, >it compiles fine under FreeBSD.
