The port was created and tested under the latest -current snap. I think that existing Squid port should be replaced ASAP with this one -- Squid' betas are dissapearing from FTP sites quickly. I did the port of 1.0.0 only now, because I remember how often Squid's betas were changing recently ;) Now we have a comparatively stabilized Squid (I hope). I already got some suggestions about adding more out-of-the-box tunings and functionalities into the port. After a while of thinking on the topic, I decided NOT to do this at least just now -- Squid is _very_ configurable, and I can't imagine all the variants and ways one might choose for running it. So again I stayed with a lowest-common-denominator (read: off-the-shelf) variant of a port, leaving all the joy of editing squid.conf and other stuff in misc. .../etc directories to happy users :-) Comments, reviews and suggestions for the port are strongly appreciated! -- With best regards -- Andrew Stesin. Like all other comm programs (at least for MS-DOS), some comm port must be the default. And like all other comm programs, you can change the configuration once installed. So rather than not have a package, I'd like to use a default port (ether cuaa0 or cuaa1) if it is being built non-interactively. Minicom is also still useful even if you don't have the "required" packages installed as you can still login and do everything except for xfer files. This * leaves out tk4.1 port well and truly out of sync. Does anyone have plans to * fix this up? I'm waiting for the release, as tcl is not in -stable and the ports tree is shared by the two trees right now. The new alpha of > majordomo (v1.94) has a nice installation -- the release does not. > Hopefully, this will take a few of the rough edges off for people who were > having problems. Sorry I didn't take the time to *uninstall* my majordomo setup and try this one (too much of a hassle making sure all the perms, lists, etc. were correct to risk losing something! :>) Couple of nits... Remove Doc/man/* from themajordomo directory (since you've already got the man pages installed properly) I rooted /etc/majordomo.cf in /usr/local -- I guess this is a matter of personal preference. Your way requires fewer diffs... ;-) Why did you opt for UID/GID of 67 (vs. the 54 suggested)... just curious. The approve, request-answer, bounce-remind, new-list and digest scripts have references to /usr/lib/sendmail which I didn't see corrected in the diffs (forgive me if I overlooked them...) I can't recall if you "touched" the Log file? I think MD complains if it doesn't exist (or perhaps that's my memory of an earlier version). I have mine in /var/log/Majordomo with a symlink from the majordomo directory (again, personal preference) I have all of the directories, etc. referenced in majordomo.cf keyed to $homedir. There is a subtle difference here but I don't know what *your* intended setup is like... As a "test list", I created "List_Operators" (and "List_Operators-Digest") for distribution to *-Operators of local lists (closed membership, etc.). Along with this, I set up archive, digest and repository directories tied into ~ftp with hooks for ftpmail to (optionally) do the gets. This, of course, is *highly* subject to your whims (and would depend on ftp being set up). But, it gave me a convenient place to store all the Doc/* files (i.e. in the List_Operators repository!) Sorry but I don't have the stomach to sort through your aliases (once was enough for me! :>) But, I did notice you may want to use the @FILENAME form for arguments just to add a tad more "security"... Your way requires fewer diffs... ;-) > > Some of the supplemental programs are hardcoded to look for it there, > hence anchoring it in ${PREFIX}/majordomo and symlinking it into /etc. Yes. I patched all of those to look for it in /usr/local/etc/majordomo.cf (just like many of them needed to be patched for the correct location of sendmail). I guess this is personal preference... I like to keep /etc pretty clean (if I put *everything* that was in /usr/local/etc into /etc -- even just a symlink -- the resulting /etc would get quite cluttered) > > Why did you opt for UID/GID of 67 (vs. the 54 suggested)... just curious. > > I originally installed majordomo a year and a half ago on a system and put > it there. All of my prior installations have just been there. One higher > than uucp, and it seems to be free. Just a whim I guess. Ah, OK. I had originally put it up at ~500 but was quite willing to move it to the `54' indicated in the Makefile... *seems* to be purely a matter of preference. I was just concerned that *you* knew something "mysterious" about 54 that caused you to move it... Macros are expanded as if they were tokenized before expansion (so a `+' at the end of X doesn't get joined with the `+' in X+ to form a `++' token). This is usually implemented by inserting whitespace so that tokenizing after expansion gives the same result. > - why no whitespace after `+'? This is a bug in gcc-2.6.3. It actually gives `` 1 +2 '', while the version in gcc-2.7.2 gives ``1 + 2 ''. The difference is important for #define Y + int z; main() { printf("%d\n", +Y z); } For gcc-2.6.3, ``+Y z'' expands to ``++ z'' so there is a bogus `++' token and the result is 1. For gcc-2.7.2, it expands to ``+ + z'' and the result is 0. Anyway, don't use `gcc -E' as a general purpose macro expander. `gcc -E -traditional' and /usr/bin/cpp work better. The Sybase OpenClient libraries are available for Linux but with some effort I could create a package to run in the /compat/linux structure, and now it's working fine (No warranties, of course. :) ). If there's enough interest I could create a package of this. This could not be a port, since it has to be compiled in a Linux machine. If there's GREAT interest, people should call Sybase support asking for a FreeBSD version, as I did (with NO answer at all). Yeah, it's certainly not the easiest beast to install, is it ? Thankfully 1.94a has addressed many of those concerns, but it's still not stabe enough to port. The error looks like a warning about the changing of the sender, which shouldn't happen (at least I haven't seen it happening on any FBSD install I've done). Are you using a sendmail replacement or have you done any hacks to it ? Without further thought, I'd guess that the user that majordomo is running as is not set to be a trusted user by your MTA. I also had to tweak a few of the scripts to automatically adjust file permissions so I could have digests, archives, etc. appear under ~ftp nicely. This is really (IMO) a bug in the ports tree. Having an item in ports install something in /usr/local/bin with the same name as one of the mainstream commands is just asking for trouble. I haven't looked at ncftp2, bug (sic) sort of figured that it would install as /usr/local/bin/ncftp2 if I ever said 'make install'. I'm curious as to how the "ports policy" addresses this. (No, my copy of the policy email isn't online on this machine. Sorry.) I suspect it's just an oversight. --lyndon From owner-freebsd-ports Fri Jul 12 21:32:05 1996 Return-Path: owner-ports Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) id VAA06467 for ports-outgoing; Fri, 12 Jul 1996 21:32:05 -0700 (PDT) Received: from time.cdrom.com (time.cdrom.com [204.216.27.226]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.7.5/8.7.3) with ESMTP id VAA06369; Fri, 12 Jul 1996 21:30:41 -0700 (PDT) Received: from time.cdrom.com (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by time.cdrom.com (8.7.5/8.6.9) with ESMTP id VAA22542; Fri, 12 Jul 1996 21:30:20 -0700 (PDT) To: Lyndon Nerenberg VE7TCP cc: ashworth@cs.montana.edu, www@freebsd.org, ports@freebsd.org Subject: Re: ncftp Binary In-reply-to: Your message of "Fri, 12 Jul 1996 17:57:13 PDT." <199607130057.RAA00820@multivac.orthanc.com> Date: Fri, 12 Jul 1996 21:30:20 -0700 Message-ID: <22540.837232220@time.cdrom.com> From: "Jordan K.
