I partitioned/formated one side (6xxMB) under win95 and use it fine. Then I boot into FreeBSD and type "fdisk od0", fdisk complains "can't read partition table", and the disk geometry seems wrong. The MSDOS partition disappear and a FreeBSD partition appears. :( ======= fdisk od0 ========= fdisk: Can't read fdisk partition table ******* Working on device /dev/rod0 ******* parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are: cylinders=335 heads=117 sectors/track=57 (6669 blks/cyl) parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are: cylinders=335 heads=117 sectors/track=57 (6669 blks/cyl) Warning: BIOS sector numbering starts with sector 1 Information from DOS bootblock is: The data for partition 0 is: The data for partition 1 is: The data for partition 2 is: The data for partition 3 is: sysid 165,(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD) start 1, size 2234114 (1090 Meg), flag 80 beg: cyl 0/ sector 2/ head 0; end: cyl 335/ sector 1/ head 0 ======================== Here is the verbose boot message ======================== ahc0 rev 0 int a irq 11 on pci0:11 mapreg[10] type=1 addr=0000e000 size=0100. mapreg[14] type=0 addr=f3fff000 size=1000. ahc0: Reading SEEPROM...done. ahc0: aic7880 Single Channel, SCSI Id=7, 16 SCBs ahc0: Downloading Sequencer Program...Done ahc0: Probing channel A ahc0 waiting for scsi devices to settle ahc0: target 0 synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset = 0xf ahc0: target 0 Tagged Queuing Device (ahc0:0:0): "IBM DPES-31080 S80E" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd0(ahc0:0:0): Direct-Access 1034MB (2118144 512 byte sectors) sd0(ahc0:0:0): with 4903 cyls, 4 heads, and an average 108 sectors/track ahc0: target 1 synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset = 0xf ahc0: target 1 Tagged Queuing Device (ahc0:1:0): "IBM OEM DFHSS2F 4141" type 0 fixed SCSI 2 sd1(ahc0:1:0): Direct-Access 2150MB (4404489 512 byte sectors) sd1(ahc0:1:0): with 4390 cyls, 8 heads, and an average 125 sectors/track ahc0: target 5 synchronous at 5.0MHz, offset = 0x8 (ahc0:5:0): "SHARP JY800 MODC 0.42" type 7 removable SCSI 2 od0(ahc0:5:0): Optical 622MB (637041 1024 byte sectors) od0(ahc0:5:0): with approximate 311 cyls, 64 heads, and 32 sectors/track ahc0: target 6 synchronous at 5.0MHz, offset = 0xf (ahc0:6:0): "MATSHITA CD-ROM CR-504 ST23" type 5 removable SCSI 2 cd0(ahc0:6:0): CD-ROM cd present [206900 x 2048 byte records] ================================= While I type "fdisk od0", the console print : ================================= od0s1: type 0x20, start 1919950958, end = 2464388050, size 544437093 od0s1: C/H/S start 356/97/46 (2379738) != start 1919950958: invalid od0s1: C/H/S end 357/116/40 (2387484) != end 2464388050: invalid od0s2: type 0x6b, start 1330184202, end = 1869160489, size 538976288 od0s2: C/H/S start 288/110/57 (1926998) != start 1330184202: invalid od0s2: C/H/S end 269/101/57 (1799774) != end 1869160489: invalid od0s3: type 0x53, start 538989391, end = 1937352302, size 1398362912 od0s3: C/H/S start 345/32/19 (2302647) != start 538989391: invalid od0s3: C/H/S end 324/77/19 (2165163) != end 1937352302: invalid od0s4: type 0x49, start 1394627663, end = 1394648999, size 21337 od0s4: C/H/S start 87/1/0 (580259) != start 1394627663: invalid od0s4: C/H/S end 335/78/2 (2238562) != end 1394648999: invalid od0: oops not queued ====================================== While I insert an EMPTY (unused) disk, and type "fdisk od0", it complains "device od0 not configured", and console print: ====================================== od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , retries:2 od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , retries:1 od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , FAILURE od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , retries:2 od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , retries:1 od0(ahc0:5:0): MEDIUM ERROR asc:9,2 Focus servo failure , FAILURE ====================================== Thanks for your help ..... -- 李 建 達 (Jian-Da Li) 交 大 資 工 E-Mail : http://www.csie.nctu.edu.tw/~jdli
