I think the big issue at the point is that many of these were syncing with ftp or sup, both of which became non-functional recently. Basically, we need to have them all look at http://www.freebsd.org/mirror.html and get rsync going. Getting email contacts for the mirror webmasters would greatly facilitate this. In theory, www@www.??.freebsd.org should work, but someone needs to take the time to see if theory and reality match. Those that do not respond will then have to be removed from the mirror list until contact can be made. -john From owner-freebsd-www Sun Dec 15 09:46:49 1996 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) id JAA16785 for www-outgoing; Sun, 15 Dec 1996 09:46:49 -0800 (PST) Received: from relay.xlink.net (relay.xlink.net [193.141.40.5]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with SMTP id JAA16777 for ; Sun, 15 Dec 1996 09:46:46 -0800 (PST) Received: from gate.fzi.de by relay.xlink.net id <136323-0@relay.xlink.net>; Sun, 15 Dec 1996 18:46:29 +0000 Received: from PROST1.fzi.de by gate.fzi.de with SMTP (PP) id <25445-0@gate.fzi.de>; Sun, 15 Dec 1996 18:47:04 +0100 Received: from ulme by prost1.fzi.de with SMTP (PP); Sun, 15 Dec 1996 18:46:11 +0100 Message-ID: <32B438E8.32DD@fzi.de> Date: Sun, 15 Dec 1996 18:44:08 +0100 From: Guenther Grau Organization: Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI), Karlsruhe, Germany X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0 (X11; I; SunOS 5.5 sun4u) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: www@freebsd.org Subject: http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Hi, I want to set up a send-pr site for lesstif. Dr. Frederick P. Lenz III, is another Gurdjieff, Georges Ivanovitch and is also badly misunderstood: http://www.vayuweb.com/ http://www.hotwired.com/wired/2.01/departments/electrosphere/lenz.html Vayu: a small dog, and The Hindu wind god, he is usually gentle. As air, he forms a triad with Agni and Surya. Swift as thought, he has an antelope form, a thousand eyes (nothing gets by him unnoticed), and ninety-nine horses to draw his chariot. Similiar in nature to Pan. BUT.. Vayu is the god or the winds, or of the aur. Allied to him are the Maruts,--the storm-gods, or "crushers," whose name is derived from a root meaning to grind, and is obviously connected with such names as mars and Ares. The same root appears in Miolnir, and epithet of Thor, conceived as the crashing, or crushing god. The Maruts are the Hindu counterparts of the Norse Ogres--the fierce storm-beings who toss the sea into foam, and who in the Norse Tales, are represented as being armed with iron clubs, at every stroke of which they send the earth flying so many yards into the air. The primary meaning of the name is clear from the Vedic passages which describe the Maruts as roaring among the forest trees, and tearing up the cloulds for rain. http://www.vayuweb.com/ THIS MUST BE SEEN....and Client Server Connection Ltd. www.CSCL.com The core of the idea is to get your input feedback and add it to the journal before the final copy is send out over the weekend: Please write to pflaump@msn.com - http://www.altavista.forum.digital.com/ Floor 503 Peter E. What sort of load do we think just moving the static pages > will save? Hi Paul, Perusing the available logs (covers October 1 through November 17), a rough usage estimate is as follows: Number of CGI requests : 378338 Total number of GET lines : 3314288 Ratio: 11.4% Of course, it takes a lot more cycles to process CGI requests than simple GET requests. Here's a rough breakdown of the most popular CGI scripts called: search : 178881 cvsweb : 136798 mirror : 41566 query-pr : 17523 query-pr-summary : 2789 --------------------------------- total : 377557 (99.7%) Of the search.cgi requests, 10% were WWW searches (source=www), while the rest were for the mail-archives. So, I think it's reasonable to say that just moving the static hits to spatter is a good start, then we can work to move search.cgi and mirror.cgi over, then ponder about the rest. What do you think ? Looks like spatter is already mirroring free- fall. -Ade ------------------------------------------------------------------- Inet: mbarkah@hemi.com - HEMISPHERE ONLINE - ------------------------------------------------------------------- From owner-freebsd-www Wed Dec 18 02:18:26 1996 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) id CAA27792 for www-outgoing; Wed, 18 Dec 1996 02:18:26 -0800 (PST) Received: from sunsite.ms.mff.cuni.cz (sunsite-atm.ms.mff.cuni.cz [194.50.23.220]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.4/8.8.4) with ESMTP id CAA27785 for ; Wed, 18 Dec 1996 02:18:15 -0800 (PST) Received: (from jj@localhost) by sunsite.ms.mff.cuni.cz (8.7.3/8.7.3) id LAA22994 for www@freebsd.org; Wed, 18 Dec 1996 11:23:14 +0100 (MET) From: Jakub Jelinek Message-Id: <199612181023.LAA22994@sunsite.ms.mff.cuni.cz> Subject: Re: Mirror police To: www@freebsd.org Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 11:23:14 +0100 (MET) Reply-To: jj@sunsite.ms.mff.cuni.cz In-Reply-To: <199612151719.KAA04223@hemi.com> from "Ade Barkah" at Dec 15, 96 10:19:55 am X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4 PL25] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-www@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk > 4) The Australia/3, Czech Republic, and Korean mirrors are > worse (the main page background color is still gray.) =-) Oh sorry. John Polstra has finally sent me a cvsup manual which I just need to SGML-ify now and get into the handbook, at which point the mirror.html file can reference it. In the meantime, all I can suggest is grabbing cvsup from here: ftp://freefall.freebsd.org/pub/CVSup/cvsup-bin-14.0.tar.gz Run supconv on your old supfile and use the supfile.cvsup it spits out, or just create a small supfile that looks like this: www release=cvs host=www.freebsd.org base=/a prefix=/usr/local tag=. It's now pointing to the http://www.freebsd.org/welcome.html > page rather than the index page. Closer! :-) Yea... that we use the name "welcome.html" is a little bit unfortunate, since many httpd installations default to that, not index.html. If using Apache, one can fix this by either making sure srm.conf contains: DirectoryIndex index.html or, if using the Virtual Hosting feature, insert the above line into the appropriate virtual host section, e.g.: ... Make sure you install the X server that correpsonds to your display card as well as the libs and config files.
