We're planning to buy some cards for our lab, and I'd like to know what cards are currently working right know and where I can find information about the drivers. Has anyone gathered this information already ? I've seen some mails about Efficient, Zeitnet, Adaptec and FORE. Thanks in advance. Adaptec is much better in hardware design, at least, for the driver. The driver currently supports only PVCs. (for HARP information, see http://www.msci.magic.net). I understood they hoped to release the FreeBSD port, but there has been no announcement, nor anything new on the web page. I am carbon-copying this to Mr. Thomas, maybe he will please tell us if the FreeBSD port of HARP is still on track or if it is no longer a possibility. I was hoping the HARP stack offered more features than the WUSTL stack. --mark From owner-freebsd-atm Fri May 9 11:20:12 1997 Return-Path: Received: (from root@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) id LAA21488 for atm-outgoing; Fri, 9 May 1997 11:20:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: from markov.ravel.ufrj.br (markov.ravel.ufrj.br [146.164.32.78]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id LAA21483 for ; Fri, 9 May 1997 11:20:08 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from rodolfo@localhost) by markov.ravel.ufrj.br (8.7.3/8.7.3) id PAA00519; Fri, 9 May 1997 15:17:46 -0300 (EST) From: Rodolfo Heitor Gevaerd de Faria Message-Id: <199705091817.PAA00519@markov.ravel.ufrj.br> Subject: Re: Atm Cards support In-Reply-To: <199705091602.BAA03361@hotaka.csl.sony.co.jp> from Kenjiro Cho at "May 10, 97 01:02:23 am" To: kjc@csl.sony.co.jp (Kenjiro Cho) Date: Fri, 9 May 1997 15:17:46 -0300 (EST) Cc: rodolfo@ravel.ufrj.br, freebsd-atm@freebsd.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL25 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-atm@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk Kenjiro Cho was saying that, ^ ^ >>>>> Rodolfo Heitor Gevaerd de Faria said: ^ ^ >> What is the current status of ATM cards support ? ^ >> We're planning to buy some cards for our lab, and I'd like to ^ >> know what cards are currently working right know and where I can find ^ >> information about the drivers. ^ >> Has anyone gathered this information already ? ^ >> I've seen some mails about Efficient, Zeitnet, Adaptec and FORE. ^ ^ I have just merged Chuck Cranor's ATM driver to FreeBSD-3.0-current ^ today. Yes, you can get the code from ftp://dworkin.wustl.edu/dist/bsd/bsdatm1.4.tar.gz or http://dworkin.wustl.edu/pub/chuck/ ^ ^ The driver currently supports only PVCs. No ATMARP nor multicast is ^ supported. >> what about SVC's ? No signaling is supported. If you want to use LANE or IPoverATM, this driver is not for you. But if you want to use ATM just as a high-speed point-to-point link, the driver works fine. Also, if you want to do low-level ATM research, the driver is simpler and easy to play with. --kj
