Granted, it's a lot more flexible configuration, but the overall strength of the system can't be as strong as a system that doesn't have the pop-in modules. Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Precedence: bulk I have a Toshiba Tecra740CDT and a 3Com 3C589D PCMCIA ethernet card. I use the pccardd(8) support and the ep(4) driver on FreeBSD 2.2-970713-RELENG (the RELENG versions added support for the "D" revision of the card). Most times I suspend/resume, I get this on the console after resuming: Sep 8 22:12:25 pollux /kernel: ep0: suspending Sep 8 22:12:25 pollux /kernel: resumed from suspended mode (slept 01:12:38) Sep 8 22:12:25 pollux /kernel: ep0: eeprom failed to come ready. I tried increasing the MAX_EEPROMBUSY (from 3000 to 12000) in if_epreg.h (which appears to control the resume wait time) but haven't had much luck. The kernel identifies the controller and APM as: Sep 8 08:58:34 pollux /kernel: apm0 on isa Sep 8 08:58:34 pollux /kernel: apm: found APM BIOS version 1.1 Sep 8 08:58:35 pollux /kernel: PC-Card Intel 82365 (5 mem & 2 I/O windows) Sep 8 08:58:35 pollux /kernel: pcic: controller irq 9 In the first set of messages, it appears that the "ep0: suspending" message comes only after the machine resumes i.e. it looks as if it might not have time to suspend the card before the machine shuts down. Two minor problems -- my 3Com 3C589D sometimes fails to resume after a suspend, and the current sound drivers don't suspend and resume well, so I can't play CDs after a suspend/resume. That's pretty good, considering that for most folks it panics the kernel. Anyways, I digress. The point I'm trying to make (in a very round-about fashion) is that suspend/resume with cards simply doesn't work reliably in FreeBSD, and hasn't ever. Someday someone will come and correctly fix the architectural problems with the current system (which is a great start, but needs to be finished, rather than extended thus continuing the breakage). My suggestion is to pop out the card before suspending, and then pop it back in when you resume. (I know, it's silly, but see above...) I assume I can just copy my /etc/XF86Config from one machine to the other, but does anyone know otherwise? I found specs at http://www.toshiba.com/tais/csd/products/pspecs2/main.htm. Both the 440 and 460 are Chips and Technologies HiQVideo (65554 and 65555, respectively), but the graphics controller is not listed for the 420 and 430. Toshiba told me that the 420 C&T was numbered 65550. Certainly the difference between the 460 and the 420 can't be enough to require a new X config? Or, at least it should be simply procedural to build a new one with xf86config? If anyone knows different, please let me know.
