I'd be grateful for any other suggestions. You could try using ghostscript to convert to ppm, then use ppmtogif (from netpbm), possibly using ppmquant to drop the colors below 256. I suppose png isn't an option (yet). Actually, since you have 'xv', and that reads p[bgp]m, you really don't need netpbm. -- Zach Heilig (zach@gaffaneys.com) Our one strength was that our senior officers were more flexible than theirs... I'd be grateful for any other suggestions. Thanks for the various answers. It turns out that they didn't help, because all the solutions used Ghostscript for to conversion from PostScript, and Ghostscript will use 72dpi by default. The solution I chose was to find a convenient resolution (in my case, about 200 dpi) and use that to convert to a ppm file. The files are *ridiculously* large, about 50 MB for a relatively small image, and by default Ghostscript uses /tmp as its temporary directory. You can override the directory with the TEMP environment variable, so what I finally wrote was: $ TEMP=. gs -sDEVICE=ppm -r200x200 pic2.ps Greg -- See complete headers for address, home page and phone numbers finger grog@lemis.com for PGP public key To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-doc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-doc Mon Dec 21 08:40:00 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id IAA15397 for freebsd-doc-outgoing; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 08:40:00 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.FreeBSD.ORG [204.216.27.21]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id IAA15389 for ; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 08:39:59 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from Unknown UID 563@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.5) id IAA15125; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 08:40:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from k6n1.znh.org (dialup7.gaffaneys.com [208.155.161.57]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id IAA15202 for ; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 08:37:32 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from zach@gaffaneys.com) Received: (from zach@localhost) by k6n1.znh.org (8.9.1/8.9.1) id QAA28789; Mon, 21 Dec 1998 16:37:24 GMT (envelope-from zach) Message-Id: <199812211637.QAA28789@k6n1.znh.org> Date: Mon, 21 Dec 1998 16:37:24 GMT From: Zach Heilig Reply-To: zach@gaffaneys.com To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.ORG X-Send-Pr-Version: 3.2 Subject: docs/9158: 'security(1)' manual page is probably in the wrong directory..
