The compaq laptop has a cirrus logic 7148 PCI, which is supported by X11R6. I've configured X many times on my home computer, but never on a laptop. The configuration is not working at all, I've removed all the resolutions which are not supported by my monitor (I've removed everything but 640x480x256, 640x400x256 and 800x600x256), but still it give a black screen and the system "hangs". The CRTL-ALT-F1, CRTL-ALT-BS don't work anymore and the only thing I can do is a reboot. I've read the trouble shooter about the cirrus chips and used the options "noaccel" and "nobitblk", etc. but still no luck in getting it right. Can someone help me with this problem ? Or does someone have a working XFconfig file for me ? (ppl that also have a compaq 4120 with a cl 7148) Thanks in advance, Mike Crawfurd. -- Mike Crawfurd Telephone. PAO recognises the card and sets it up. The symptoms are as follows: 1. Most of the time I can only reach hosts on the local segment. I have verified that everything is correct in ifconfig and I do have a default route setup. 2. When telneting to another host it is very slow. FTPing is impossible. 3. When I ping another site it starts out at about 1900ms ping times and each time it sends a ping the ping time decrements ~10ms. When it gets down to 10ms it then cycles back to ~1000ms. 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=1840.543 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=1 ttl=255 time=1830.346 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=2 ttl=255 time=1820.230 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=3 ttl=255 time=1810.360 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=4 ttl=255 time=1800.172 64 bytes from 192.187.130.254: icmp_seq=5 ttl=255 time=1790.323 4. I cannot ping the laptop from any other host. 5. Sometimes the card will totally stop sending. When this happens the flag 'OACTIVE' shows up in ifconfig. This usually happens when I try to send or receive larger amounts of data. Purchased cheapo ($65) NE2000 PCMCIA ethernet card from from Fry's (see step 5). 3) Ran FIPs to repartition the libretto hard drive; 300 MB for Win 95, ~200 Mb for Win NT, the rest for FreeBSD 4) Got the SlimSCSI & CDROM running under Win95 and copied what I needed from the CDROM to the Win95 (FAT) partition, then ran the freebsd installation from DOS (described in the handbook that comes with the CDROM set). 5) Once I had freebsd going I upgraded to 2.2.5-STABLE (~Feb 98, kernel sources only) since the -RELEASE system does NOT support the SlimSCSI card. I brought the libretto to work, plugged it in to the network and sucked off what I needed from www.freebsd.org. 6) Been a happy user ever since (but then, I have tiny fingers). As you have seen, there are other ways to install, ranging from the baroque (disassembling the machine to extract the hard drive) to the less baroque (see above). As far as I know, the floppy is not yet supported, but there is some guy who is allegedly working on it (status please?). If he is out there reading this, I'm offering my assistance. I'll email you my X config when I get home (didn't bring the Libretto in today). Since I only use SUSPEND from Win95 I set up my FreeBSD swap partition at the end of the disk. If I just change > it in the pccard.conf it just refuses to assign the driver. Are those IRQ's free? Did you tell them it was free in /etc/pccard.conf? > I thought that the TI1130 was fully supported, especially under > -current. I don't know if it's supported or not. If it recognizes your cards being swapping in/out then for sure it is. :) Nate To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Sat Mar 28 11:24:08 1998 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id LAA23678 for freebsd-mobile-outgoing; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 11:24:08 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from dragon.awen.com (dragon.awen.com [207.33.155.10]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id LAA23669 for ; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 11:24:04 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from mburgett@dragon.awen.com) Received: (from mburgett@localhost) by dragon.awen.com (8.8.8/8.8.7) id LAA02148; Sat, 28 Mar 1998 11:23:55 -0800 (PST) Message-Id: <199803281923.LAA02148@dragon.awen.com> From: "Mike Burgett" To: "alexandr@louie.udel.edu" , "Nate Williams" Cc: "Bill Trost" , "freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG" Date: Sat, 28 Mar 98 11:23:55 -0800 Reply-To: "Mike Burgett" X-Mailer: PMMail 1.92 For OS/2 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: RE: Serial Questions Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Sat, 28 Mar 1998 11:57:23 -0700, Nate Williams wrote: >> I thought that the TI1130 was fully supported, especially under >> -current. > >I don't know if it's supported or not. I recall turning off the unsupported features (mwave modem/soundcard, and mpeg stuff) before blowing away the win95 that was on it when I got it, and installing freebsd for the first time. I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I did have some problems installing -current recently (the zp driver caused the kernel to trap out _after_ installation was complete, it was find for installation. Changing to the ep driver made the problem go away.)
