So I consider _YOU_ will do this _porting_ stuff by yourself quite _inside_ _YOUR_ group, and so it's further no part of my TYA distribution. I received one or two bug report for this problem. Thanks Justin Wells and Hideaki Takahashi very much. Some bug fixes and a few improvements are done. - A binary distribution for FreeBSD doesn't a problem it ever had. - Now we can compile shuJIT not only with EGCS also GCC 2.X. See README or compilation method on Web. - Invocation of static method is slightly made faster. - Making JIT disable and enable with java.lang.Compiler#disable,enable() work now. Not that I'm aware of, and I would vote against doing it because the JDK is *NOT* part of the base release, hence it shouldn't be part of the base system. Now, if someone were to write an LKM that did this I *might* be convinced, but IMO this really doesn't belong as part of the kernel. Java doesn't know about Unix systems stuff, and crypto stuff is hard to export. In Cryptix 3.0.3 there is a crypt program, which implements the DES variant (from memory). It doesn't do the hash variant of crypt, but that is probably implemented with MD5 and that is also included if you fancy hacking around. iang PS: http://www.cryptix.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Mon Jan 18 05:41:38 1999 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id FAA11292 for freebsd-java-outgoing; Mon, 18 Jan 1999 05:41:38 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from DegNet.de (degnet.de [194.95.214.129]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id FAA11287 for ; Mon, 18 Jan 1999 05:41:35 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from malte.lance@gmx.net) Received: from neuron.webmore.prv (GateWay [192.168.168.1]) by DegNet.de (8.8.8/8.8.8/Debian/GNU) with ESMTP id OAA22499; Mon, 18 Jan 1999 14:40:29 +0100 Received: from neuron.webmore.prv (neuron.webmore.prv "Malte Lance") by neuron.webmore.prv (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id OAA00600; Mon, 18 Jan 1999 14:38:41 +0100 (CET) Message-Id: <199901181338.OAA00600@neuron.webmore.prv> Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 14:38:39 +0100 (CET) From: Malte Lance Reply-To: malte.lance@gmx.net Subject: Re: crypt() equiv? I could not get TYA to compile out of the box, as Nate suggested. This was becuase I had to set #defined FreeBSD in configure.in, as you suggest in your README. Once I had done that, I believe that it compiled fine. I am not a configure guru (by any stretch of the imagination!), but isn't there a way to do a "uname" in the configure script to determine platform, and then define #defined FreeBSD based on this? Also, with our new naming scheme for java, our JDK 1.1.7 get identified as the Byrne 1.1.7-vX, since java -version returns just "1.1.7" (as it should). So if there are any differences in the Byrne Linux port and ours TYA may not compile. Using "java -fullversion" correctly identifies the FreeBSD java version. Does this work on the Linux ones, and can you change the configure script to use it instead? Not sure why that would be, unless you're referring to the overhead of Sun's JCE architecture. If you do rewrite, you can test against the Cryptix program, or write this little C test from the javadoc: *
     *    #include
     *    main()
     *    {
     *        const char *key = "CryptixRulez";
     *        const char salt[] = {'o','k'};
     *        printf("crypt(%s, %s) = %s\n",
     *               key, salt, crypt(key, salt));
     *    }
     *

I looked at JavaDoc, and stumbled over a crypt3() method, which led me to UnixCrypt. I don't know how people find stuff... Now, I just need write a function to generate a random. The UnixCrypt class docs seem to imply the salt is two characters (default is "AA"), but isn't it usually 8 characters? This is getting off topic a bit, but the reason is that DES is an encryption algorithm (ie, it's reversable) wheras MD5 is only a hashing algorithm (ie, if you can reverse it then some people would be very interested to see how you do it :-) -Archie ___________________________________________________________________________ Archie Cobbs * Whistle Communications, Inc. * http://www.whistle.com To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-java" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-java Tue Jan 19 08:30:25 1999 Return-Path: Received: (from majordom@localhost) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) id IAA05578 for freebsd-java-outgoing; Tue, 19 Jan 1999 08:30:25 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG) Received: from sax.sax.de (sax.sax.de [193.175.26.33]) by hub.freebsd.org (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id IAA05573 for ; Tue, 19 Jan 1999 08:30:23 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from java@ak.sax.de) Received: (from uucp@localhost) by sax.sax.de (8.8.8/8.8.8) with UUCP id RAA29739; Tue, 19 Jan 1999 17:30:15 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from java@ak.sax.de) Received: (from java@localhost) by ak.sax.de (8.8.8/8.8.8) id RAA00504; Tue, 19 Jan 1999 17:34:02 +0100 From: Albrecht Kleine Message-Id: <199901191634.RAA00504@ak.sax.de> Subject: Re: TYA bugfix patch / now TYA1.2v3 In-Reply-To: <199901180058.QAA16739@rah.star-gate.com> from Amancio Hasty at "Jan 17, 99 04:58:38 pm" To: java@FreeBSD.ORG Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1999 17:34:01 +0100 (MET) Cc: java-linux@java.blackdown.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL37 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-java@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Hi, for all of who have had problems using my mailed diff file: now you can fetch the complete TYA1.2v3 from URL ftp://gonzalez.cyberus.ca/pub/Linux/java/tya12v3.tgz And to be quite complete I've added the missing old TYA 0.1 (originally dated Sep 26 1997 !) into the same directory ;-) This was build #72 vs. #222 .... I spoke with their big cheese in November about this already, and they're *really* busy with V3.0 right now (we hope to be beta-testing it on Solaris RSN), so no 'free' version will be done. They also expect to not be doing anything in the near term because of the new version and doing support for the other versions as well.... Depends on the license. The 5K license requires that you buy 'runtime' licenses for each and every installation. They have other (much more expensive) licenses that allow you to build/distribute w/out any runtimes.
