Easy stuff maynard. It gets even easier if you run gated and let ospf do the talking for you. The routing problems mentioned by Forrest only appeared for me when I tried to use the loopback interface. Perhaps I'd done something terribly wrong to make it not work. Just for kicks, when I had the spare IP addresses availiable, I did have an entire /22 aliased to the ethernet port. It worked perfectly. I was in the market for a free, featured imap server that could do the following: Work with $HOME/Mailbox Support configurable folders I haven't had any luck with imap-uw. I read the docs on how to change it to use $HOME/Mailbox, but the hack didn't seem to work at all. What I mean by configurable folders, is something like this: Mail comes in, postfix delivers it to procmail, procmail filters it into the correct "folder" like: :0: * ^To:.*stable@freebsd.org in.freebsd-stable Here comes the folders part... when you logon with imap to the server, it reports Inbox, in.freebsd-stable, and all the other folders. The patch you are looking for can be found on the QMAIL site. They need to be changed a bit to work well (which is why I did a port to begin with), but overall it's OK... I will update the port to match the current version of IMAP-UW and resubmit it. However, I think that the CYRUS IMAP server is somewhat nicer than IMAP-UW. Is anybody looking at updating the port ? I have noticed that FreeBSD 3.3 only has version 1.0.0 of the Stallion drivers, this version is missing support for some of Stallions product line, ie the PCI EasyIO card. It appears as if Greg Ungerer in 1998 developed 2.0.0 of the drivers, placed them on Stallions ftp site but never got them included in FreeBSD's source tree. Is there anybody willing to convert these 2.0.0 drivers for use with 3.3, or if not what would be involved in converting these drivers should I decide to try and do this myself? It would be good if the 2.0.0 drivers were included in FreeBSD's source tree. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all in the FreeBSD community for a great operating system. Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Craig Wilson National Software Pty Ltd. But I can't reach the IP from the machine itself. When trying to connect from other hosts, it works! I can reach the server from other boxes on the network and the Internet, but can't just lynx or ping to it from the server itself. Can you tell me why this happens? I have more than 100 ip based virtual hosts on a box. During boot, rc.local evokes: ifconfig ep0 206.180.151.123 netmask 0xffffffff alias If I try to ping 206.180.151.123 from the box, it fails and syslog reports: Oct 24 21:40:34 TripleCrown /kernel: arplookup 206.180.151.123 failed: could not allocate llinfo Oct 24 21:40:34 TripleCrown /kernel: arplookup 206.180.151.123 failed: could not allocate llinfo Oct 24 21:40:34 TripleCrown /kernel: arpresolve: can't allocate llinfo for 206.180.151.123rt Oct 24 21:40:34 TripleCrown /kernel: arpresolve: can't allocate llinfo for 206.180.151.123rt If I then remove the address from the interface with route -d xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and then do ifconfig ep0 206.180.151.123 netmask 0xffffffff alias, I can then ping the address from the box. This is because the passwords themselves are stored in /etc/master.passwd, which is only readable by root (this is a generic problem with pam_unix on systems with a "shadow" password file). Your solution is either to make this file readable by the uid or gid which runs cyrus, or to use another authentication mechanism. I want to mount a read-write subtree in one part of the filesystem with the processes in a jail (where it will be read-only). One example is allowing a jailed user to update a set of html documents in a specific directory tree, and sharing this directory tree on a read-only basis with a jailed web server. I also want to export all the executables to each jail via read-only mounts without needing lots of tiny partitions. We run a postfix+cyrus box here, and in sort, you'll have to wait for the pwcheck module to be re-included in the 1.6.X series to really use it inder FreeBSD I've found some other bugs/annoyances in 1.6.x, so thats why we went back to 1.5.x.. However, if you really want to get 1.6.x to work under FreeBSD.. The culprit for the fowled authentication (-13) is this line in /usr/src/lib/libc/gen/getpwent.c: p = (geteuid()) ? _PATH_MP_DB : _PATH_SMP_DB; What happens is the pam module (or if you tell it to use the shadow type) tries to do getpwent() as a non-root user, and getpwent() then hands it the password database file the has no passwords (/etc/pwd.db) because it's euid is not 0. (It's cyrus). The simple fix for it (the horrible hack we did) was to give getpwent() a more SYSV mentality, and check if the process could open /etc/spwd.db, otherwise, hand it /etc/pwd.db. I'm not altogether sure why this is not the behaviour in BSD (while it is a little more secure, it does not lend much to security). Then of course, you would change /etc/spwd.db so that cyrus has read access to it. (not write). Beware that every time the database is rebuilt you would have to re-give permissions to cyrus to read the password database. Dealing with hacks like this was a little too much for us, so we wimped out and went back to 1.5.x. The downside is if someone was to crack cyrus, they would get *READ ACCESS* to the password file. But if you think about it, if someone was to crack pwcheck running as root, they would get *ROOT ACCESS*. -- ====================================================================== thomas r. stromberg smtp://tstromberg@rtci.com assistant is manager / systems guru http://thomas.stromberg.org research triangle commerce, inc. finger://thomas@stromberg.org 'om mani padme hung' pots://1.919.380.9771:3210 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- GPS $GCS d? s: a-- C+++ $UB++++ $US+++ $P++++ L- E- W++ N w- V-- PE-- Y+ tv-- b+++ e h r G D-- $DI++ t+ rbt C B++ xi xw !D ================================================================[eof]= To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-stable Wed Oct 27 14:22:28 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from awfulhak.org (dynamic-112.max1-du-ws.dialnetwork.pavilion.co.uk [212.74.8.112]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 34E8714E0E for ; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 14:22:24 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from brian@Awfulhak.org) Received: from hak.lan.Awfulhak.org (root@hak.lan.Awfulhak.org [172.16.0.12]) by awfulhak.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id WAA02024; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 22:21:51 +0100 (BST) (envelope-from brian@lan.awfulhak.org) Received: from hak.lan.Awfulhak.org (brian@localhost.lan.Awfulhak.org [127.0.0.1]) by hak.lan.Awfulhak.org (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id SAA01561; Wed, 27 Oct 1999 18:02:53 +0100 (BST) (envelope-from brian@hak.lan.Awfulhak.org) Message-Id: <199910271702.SAA01561@hak.lan.Awfulhak.org> X-Mailer: exmh version 2.1.0 09/18/1999 To: Adrian Penisoara Cc: Brian Somers , freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG, brian@hak.lan.Awfulhak.org, brian@hak.lan.Awfulhak.org Subject: Re: MP downliks problem (was Re: PPP dying with signal 10) In-Reply-To: Message from Adrian Penisoara of "Tue, 26 Oct 1999 20:51:39 +0300." You don't need to use Warren Toomey's script. The version from Sun has multiuser or "net" enabled so you can just do a "setup /net" to install. Carl. The only thing that may be of note is the Java support. Someone mentioned that we may need to use the Linux Java in order for that to happen. However I'm not exactly a huge fan of Java, so unless having Java support adds some great features I don't really miss the Java support. Besides, Star Office is a pig as it is, I don't think it needs any more help in that area :-) Joseph Scott joseph.scott@owp.csus.edu Water Programs - CSU Sacramento To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-stable Thu Oct 28 7: 8:35 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from pebkac.owp.csus.edu (pebkac.owp.csus.edu [130.86.232.245]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1ADBC14D17 for ; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 07:08:31 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from joseph.scott@owp.csus.edu) Received: from owp.csus.edu (mothra.ecs.csus.edu [130.86.76.220]) by pebkac.owp.csus.edu (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id HAA64140; Thu, 28 Oct 1999 07:07:14 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: <381856FD.CC82313D@owp.csus.edu> Date: Thu, 28 Oct 1999 07:00:29 -0700 From: Joseph Scott X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.61 [en] (WinNT; I) X-Accept-Language: en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: Carl Makin Cc: Wayne M Barnes , FreeBSD Stable Subject: Re: StarOffice5.1a References: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-stable@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Carl Makin wrote: > > > http://www.stat.duke.edu/~sto/StarOffice51a/install.html > > One note with these instructions. I think I'm misunderstanding at least some of the problem. I'm assuming the following: You have a two-link ppp session with ppp(8) running in -direct mode. You then reset both modems and ppp exits. The client dials again (twice) and has problems establishing the connection because no ``replies'' are sent by one side or the other. What sort of replies are we talking about here ? If they're LCP or IPCP replies, I need a log with something like set log command lcp ipcp phase If they're missing ``replies'' from the application level, then set log command lcp ipcp phase tcp/ip would be more in order. ady@warpnet.ro said: > Oh, and another thing: the client accuses that every few hours the > traffics starts to slow down up to the point where he needs to restart > the PPP process -- this I can't very well trace but it may be related > to what I told you... This sounds like a modem that likes to renegotiate the link speed when the line gets bad but never renegotiates up. Ok, makes sense. Do you know the correct way is for software to inquire about the CPU installed? We don't have cat /proc/cpuinfo. And sysctl hw.model is still pretty generic: hw.model: AMD-K6(tm) 3D+ Processor Surely not: > dmesg | grep '^CPU:' CPU: AMD-K6(tm) 3D+ Processor (399.81-MHz 586-class CPU) as that doesn't work if too many errors have spewed into syslog. Nope: On one end the carriers on both links go down (for example a wire cut) and then the links is reestablished but almost no packets get sent through. This is fixed only with a 'down' at the control prompt. > > What sort of replies are we talking about here ? If you have a good smart switch you may be able to reset the mouse and bring it back into sync. For instance my Black Box switch lets me reset the mouse with "Ctl Ctl M W" which usually fixes the sync problems. I believe that serial mice will often resync if you unplug them and then plug them back in. That won't work with PS/2 mice though (at least I don't think it will, the last real PS/2s I used would require a power cycle after pulling the mouse). If your switch can't handle it then you'll probably have to get a new one. -- Brooks To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-stable Fri Oct 29 10:51: 8 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from loki.ideaglobal.com (loki.ideaglobal.com [194.36.20.54]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D942415491; Fri, 29 Oct 1999 10:50:51 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from kiril@loki.ideaglobal.com) Received: (from kiril@localhost) by loki.ideaglobal.com (8.9.3/8.9.2) id RAA84818; Fri, 29 Oct 1999 17:50:47 GMT (envelope-from kiril) From: Kiril Mitev Message-Id: <199910291750.RAA84818@loki.ideaglobal.com> Subject: Re: psmintr: out of sync? It has worked beautifully since I installed 3.1-R on the system months ago. Now running 3.3-STABLE. All I've got in my kernel config is: pnp0 pcm0 I recently read somewhere (was it here?) that Creative very recently changed the chipset of the PCI128--some other Ensoniq chip that the pcm0 driver does not support. I have no confirmation of this, but I remember reading it somewhere. If that is true and you have a "recently" rev of this product, that could be the problem. -Jr -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | John Reynolds CEG, CCE, Next Generation Flows, HLA | | Intel Corporation MS: CH6-210 Phone: 480-554-9092 pgr: 868-6512 | | jreynold@sedona.ch.intel.com http://www-aec.ch.intel.com/~jreynold/ | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-stable Fri Oct 29 23: 1:55 1999 Delivered-To: freebsd-stable@freebsd.org Received: from minubian.houabg.com (minubian.houabg.com [206.109.247.11]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3AFF814F48 for ; Fri, 29 Oct 1999 23:01:47 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from dchapman@houabg.com) Received: from houcbs2.houabg.com (HOUABG.COM [206.109.247.20]) by minubian.houabg.com (8.8.8/8.8.8) with ESMTP id BAA17558 for ; Sat, 30 Oct 1999 01:32:13 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from dchapman@houabg.com) Received: from 216-118-18-135.pdq.net by houcbs2.houabg.com with SMTP (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service Version 5.0.1457.7) id SG16TX48; Sat, 30 Oct 1999 01:01:37 -0500 Message-ID: <005201bf229c$41fe7160$0300a8c0@poseiden.org> From: "David W. I cannot guarantee the correct operation of the psm driver if you use a console switch. There have been quite a number of console switch products and some of them are so dumb that they cut power when you switch between computers, others claim that they are clever enough to "emulate" MS IntelliMouse when they, in fact, always bogusly answer that your mouse is IntelliMouse, but does nothing to make it look like the one when passing mouse data to the host computer. [...] >But there doesn't appear to have been any resolution to the problem, or at >least none posted publicly... If you have a good old 2-button or 3-button Logitech Mouseman without a wheel, you may have better chance of using it with the console switch, provided that your console switch does not try to be half-smart. Because the Mouseman does not require wacky initialization or strange data format, there is a possibility that the console switch won't wreack a havoc. IntelliMouse uses a special initialization sequence and proprietary data format. Apparently the psm driver got confused about it when you switched between two computers using this particular console switch. You can use the flags 0x20 for the psm driver. This flag will direct the psm driver not to use any special initialization sequence and treat any PS/2 mouse as the standard 2- or 3-button mouse. Mouseman should behave like an ordinary 3-button mouse. IntelliMouse will look like a 2-button mouse; its wheel won't work and cannot be used as the middle button, though. device psm0 at isa? tty irq 12 flags 0x20 With this flag, the any mouse should work... >I've used FreeBSD/X with a switch before, but with older kernels, and have >never seen this... It depends on the console switch... This one must have been rather a harmless one. Kazu To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
