First I was noticing that scp copies abort with strange error messages. Now I want to ftp some 4 MB file from my server via i4b and the session is terribly slow and stalls often. While I can use this ssh session very comfortably. Is there a load balancing now in i4b (which can be broken)? -- Chris Christoph P. U. I also note that AVM cards I've bought recently have had extremely long cords with them (about 6m long!): even with a correctly terminated bus, plugging one of these long cords into the middle may be enough to cause unacceptable reflections. > > I have been told that the NT can be switched into 'high power' > > mode to allow for longer cable runs It's not high power, it's a timing adjustment. But it only applies to the case of a single device at the end of a very long run (up to 800m); not for multiple devices. This is the switch labelled "S" and "L" (for "short" and "long") under the cover of the BT NTE8A. Should be in the "S" position for all normal uses. Their 'external' version responds to AT commands. http://www.traverse.com.au/ -- Totally Holistic Enterprises Internet| P:+61 7 3870 0066 | Andrew Milton The Internet (Aust) Pty Ltd | F:+61 7 3870 4477 | ACN: 082 081 472 ABN: 83 082 081 472 | M:+61 416 022 411 | Carpe Daemon PO Box 837 Indooroopilly QLD 4068 |akm@theinternet.com.au| To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Tue Oct 17 2:51:18 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from hcshh.hcs.de (hcshh.hcs.de [194.123.40.1]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7F2BE37B4D7 for ; Tue, 17 Oct 2000 02:51:16 -0700 (PDT) Received: from hcswork.hcs.de (hcswork.hcs.de [192.76.124.5]) by hcshh.hcs.de (Postfix) with ESMTP id DD12C5D16 for ; Tue, 17 Oct 2000 11:50:57 +0200 (CEST) Received: by hcswork.hcs.de (Postfix, from userid 200) id 5CC845FF; Tue, 17 Oct 2000 11:50:57 +0200 (METDST) Subject: ISDN S0 bus wiring configurations To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org (ISDN Mailinglist) Date: Tue, 17 Oct 2000 11:50:56 +0200 (METDST) Reply-To: hm@hcs.de Organization: HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL39 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Length: 479 Message-Id: <20001017095057.5CC845FF@hcswork.hcs.de> From: hm@hcs.de (Hellmuth Michaelis) Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I have put up a text about ISDN S0 bus wiring configurations at http://www.freebsd-support.de/i4b/isdn-cabling.txt Corrections and additions welcome! hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Tue Oct 17 17:33:35 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from arg1.demon.co.uk (arg1.demon.co.uk [194.222.34.166]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 19F3537B657 for ; Tue, 17 Oct 2000 17:33:34 -0700 (PDT) Received: by arg1.demon.co.uk (Postfix, from userid 300) id 088739B11; Wed, 18 Oct 2000 01:33:31 +0100 (BST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by arg1.demon.co.uk (Postfix) with ESMTP id C75A15D05; Wed, 18 Oct 2000 01:33:31 +0100 (BST) Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 01:33:31 +0100 (BST) From: Andrew Gordon X-Sender: arg@server.arg.sj.co.uk To: Hellmuth Michaelis Cc: ISDN Mailinglist Subject: Re: ISDN S0 bus wiring configurations In-Reply-To: <20001017095057.5CC845FF@hcswork.hcs.de> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Tue, 17 Oct 2000, Hellmuth Michaelis wrote: > > I have put up a text about ISDN S0 bus wiring configurations at > > http://www.freebsd-support.de/i4b/isdn-cabling.txt > > Corrections and additions welcome! This is how it can be read in I.430. As far as i understand it, every type of cable has to be terminated with 100 Ohms but the maximum length varies with the cable impedance. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Wed Oct 18 0:41:14 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de (gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de [137.226.30.2]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 360B237B4CF for ; Wed, 18 Oct 2000 00:41:12 -0700 (PDT) Received: (from kuku@localhost) by gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de (8.9.3/8.9.3) id JAA39796 for freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org; Wed, 18 Oct 2000 09:41:14 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from kuku) Date: Wed, 18 Oct 2000 09:41:14 +0200 (CEST) From: Christoph Kukulies Message-Id: <200010180741.JAA39796@gilberto.physik.rwth-aachen.de> To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Subject: i4b in 5.0-current Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I tried ispppcontrol disable-vj also to no avail. Right, but this is a simulated terminal. Most of the German cards are a direct ISDN interface, and they allow much lower-level access to the ISDN line. They're also significantly more expensive. Meanwhile the problem looks different. This morning I had 350 connections and charged a unit over a couple of minutes before I noticed that isdnd was dialing in , disconnecting, dialing in, disconnecting. Why is this -b option gone? With the acoustic signal this wouldn't have happened to me. OK, here is my isdnd.log. I simply cannot connect anymore with 4.1. Note that this log contains an error, saying that another daemon is already running. This was because I still had a . rc.conf in my rc.isdn file and when one has this in the rc.isdn file and you reboot with that, you get this error message. I havn't yet figured out, why, but when starting and stopping isdnd in a running system while debugging I'm always using sh /etc/rc.isdn and for that I need the . rc.conf. > I have to do that, otherwise I get lots of errormessages like the above. > > Leif > > -- CA log appended: hris Christoph P. The I-talk is different from the I-surf: the I-surf uses an IPAC while the I-surf has an ISAC, ISAR and an ARCOFI. I read it as saying that the correct cable impedance is 100 Ohms, but allowance has to be made for people using wrong or poorly-characterized cables. Actually, I.430 doesn't seem to make any statement about what the bus cabling should be - neither characteristic impedance nor velocity factor are specified, yet both are relevant. BT's wiring instructions specify that cable to specification CW1750 should be used (this is similar to cat-5). BT and several other sources say that EN50098-1 is the definitive specification for S-bus wiring, but unfortunately I do not have a copy. I have no idea what goes wrong, i have never had more than one isp device active at a time. If nothing helps, there might be a bug in the isp/sppp driver and you have to start debugging the driver. hellmuth -- Hellmuth Michaelis Tel +49 40 55 97 47-70 HCS Hanseatischer Computerservice GmbH Fax +49 40 55 97 47-77 Oldesloer Strasse 97-99 Mail hm [at] hcs.de D-22457 Hamburg WWW http://www.hcs.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-isdn" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-isdn Sat Oct 21 11: 3: 8 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org Received: from mailout04.sul.t-online.com (mailout04.sul.t-online.com [194.25.134.18]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7377F37B479 for ; Sat, 21 Oct 2000 11:03:06 -0700 (PDT) Received: from fmrl02.sul.t-online.de by mailout04.sul.t-online.com with smtp id 13n2z3-0006d0-00; Sat, 21 Oct 2000 20:03:05 +0200 Received: from night-porter.duskware.de (520038743430-0001@[193.158.174.233]) by fmrl02.sul.t-online.com with esmtp id 13n2z0-1PQj6uC; Sat, 21 Oct 2000 20:03:02 +0200 Received: (from martin@localhost) by night-porter.duskware.de (8.11.1/8.11.0) id e9LI2uJ01299; Sat, 21 Oct 2000 20:02:56 +0200 (MEST) From: Martin Husemann Message-Id: <200010211802.e9LI2uJ01299@night-porter.duskware.de> Subject: Re: multiple isp dialins In-Reply-To: <20001021110832.725D639F7@hcswork.hcs.de> "from Hellmuth Michaelis at Oct 21, 2000 01:08:32 pm" To: hm@hcs.de Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2000 20:02:56 +0200 (MEST) Cc: Klaus Herrmann , freebsd-isdn@freebsd.org X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.4ME+ PL78 (25)] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII X-Sender: 520038743430-0001@t-dialin.net Sender: owner-freebsd-isdn@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org > I have no idea what goes wrong, i have never had more than one isp device > active at a time. I'm not doing that now anymore, so I'm not sure nothing got broken in the meantime...
