Anyway I've been working on collecting manuals/data sheets/etc that might be useful for porting FreeBSD to the SPARC platform. I'm working on making a web page with all of the documents. While I've been doing this I noticed that the FreeBSD-Sparc Web site is missing a really important link for online documentation. http://www.sparc.org/standards.html They have a lot of very useful manuals online, including the Sparc Architecture Manual versions 8 and 9 (in pdf or ps) along with several other great documents. It might make a good addition to the documentation section. -- Ian Logan Computing & Networking New Mexico State University Email: ian@nmsu.edu Phone: 505-646-6034 Fax: 505-646-5278 Web:http://acca.nmsu.edu/~ian To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Tue Feb 1 17:41:37 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from ra.nks.net (ra.nks.net [208.226.218.5]) by builder.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9C2D53FFA for ; Tue, 1 Feb 2000 17:41:34 -0800 (PST) Received: from localhost (joeo@localhost) by ra.nks.net (8.8.7/8.8.7) with ESMTP id UAA19624 for ; Tue, 1 Feb 2000 20:41:26 -0500 Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2000 20:41:26 -0500 (EST) From: X-Sender: joeo@ra.nks.net To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Subject: U5's on ebay Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org Someone at work pointed out that Sun was selling some base model U5's with 19" monitors on E-Bay. Here's what I've done... I got a machine that will be more or less dedicated for this purpose. I pulled down, from CTM, the cvs-cur.6000XEmpty.gz and all successive updates, and I unpacked them in my "cvs root." I'm pretty sure I can get the daily update to happen using ctm_rmail, no problem there. I have no clue about using CVS otherwise, though, especially what it takes to protect a piece of the tree that we will be updating while updating the rest using CTM. Any help is appreciated. In fact, I would like to assign someone as the CVS admin - let me know if you are interested. I should have this server on the internet for interested parties to check stuff in in the next week or so. If you have stuff that you would like to check in, please drop me a personal note so that we can work out logins and such. I'm not comfortable with giving out logins to everyone on the list, though I'm sure I can be a bit more flexible than the FreeBSD core, since this is not (yet) official FreeBSD, and I don't have an entire business to support off this box. FYI, this machine is an x86 200mhz box with 128mb RAM. It is running 3.4-RELEASE. I have a 13gb IDE drive dedicated for handling source code and other project related materials. Nightly backups will be accomplished on an DDS-2 4mm DAT drive, using dump (most likely, I haven't implemented this, yet). <:) Lyndon Griffin http://www.bsd4us.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Sat Feb 5 23:46:36 2000 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from relay.nuxi.com (nuxi.cs.ucdavis.edu [169.237.7.38]) by builder.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EEB053D31 for ; Sat, 5 Feb 2000 23:46:33 -0800 (PST) Received: from dragon.nuxi.com (root@d60-025.leach.ucdavis.edu [169.237.60.25]) by relay.nuxi.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id XAA44908; Sat, 5 Feb 2000 23:47:05 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from obrien@dragon.nuxi.com) Received: (from obrien@localhost) by dragon.nuxi.com (8.9.3/8.9.1) id XAA25213; Sat, 5 Feb 2000 23:47:06 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from obrien) Date: Sat, 5 Feb 2000 23:47:05 -0800 From: "David O'Brien" To: Lyndon Griffin Cc: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Subject: Re: CVS server Message-ID: <20000205234705.B61516@dragon.nuxi.com> Reply-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org References: Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii X-Mailer: Mutt 1.0i In-Reply-To: ; from lgriffin@bsd4us.org on Sat, Feb 05, 2000 at 07:17:31PM -0500 X-Operating-System: FreeBSD 4.0-CURRENT Organization: The NUXI BSD group X-PGP-Fingerprint: B7 4D 3E E9 11 39 5F A3 90 76 5D 69 58 D9 98 7A X-Pgp-Keyid: 34F9F9D5 Sender: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org On Sat, Feb 05, 2000 at 07:17:31PM -0500, Lyndon Griffin wrote: > Can somebody offer a little help in setting up a CVS server? If that is the case, what will > it take to get the existing stuff into the tree? It doesn't have to be finished before it goes into the tree. The situation really depends on the state of it and how much impact it will have on other architectures. If (for example) it mainly requires adding new drivers and fixing portability problems in common code then it's not likely to be a problem to get it into the tree. If it's going to cause breakage on a daily basis then it would have to go into ether a branch (ouch!) until it stabilized or worked on in a seperate tree. It all depends. Also, another consideration is whether the code has enough momentum and people interested in it to keep it alive. If it's going to sit in the tree and rot because nobody wants to do anything with it, then it's pointless going into the tree to start with. (I'm not suggesting that this is the case, but it certainly doesn't hurt to demonstrate that it's got momentum and people involved.) Having it in the main tree for development (without a branch) is probably the optimum way of keeping everyone up to date and in sync. However, if it's going to inferfere with things (for example, the disk labelling and partitioning support) in a big way then we'll have to think of something else. > Thanks, > > <:) Lyndon Griffin > http://www.bsd4us.org > > On Sat, 5 Feb 2000, David O'Brien wrote: > > > On Sat, Feb 05, 2000 at 07:17:31PM -0500, Lyndon Griffin wrote: > > > Can somebody offer a little help in setting up a CVS server? As soon as I get it done, I am going to publish the steps to getting it done as well as probably make a tarball or package or something that people can use to skip all the fancy hacking necessary to get it working ;) I have one question, and it's probably a stupid one, but it's got me stumped... Scenario: I'm building the toolchain to install in /usr/sparc. So far, I've had to copy /usr/include to /usr/sparc/include and set appropriate flags in the makefiles. Everything seems to be going ok, until I get into the actual gcc compiling. At this point, it seems relectant to look in /usr/include or /usr/sparc/include for any of the files that I've placed there. I keep having to hard-code things like this: changing #include to #include "/usr/sparc/include/stdlib.h" to get things moving along. As this is usually A Bad Thing (tm), and since I'm sure there's a better way to make this happen, can anyone shed any light?
