If I had acess to > one of these beasts, then maybe I could figure out the problem... I have access to one now. I have the exact same symptoms with a freshly installed 4.4-release. It will not even mount a disk when not using it in polling mode. init_routing=1 also does not seem to make an effect. The very moment a card is inserted, the machine freezes. But not solidly! I can go to DDB. Problem is that I do not have a docking station and thus no serial port so I cannot use remote gdb on it. a trace gives that it was in doreti() and eip=0xc029dc70 which is the entry point of doreti() What is really funny is that my notebook automatically suspended to disk (hibernate) during this debugging due to a low battery. When it came back, the hang was over!? In fact, after that I could insert other cards as well. I tried some more and when the system hangs, pressing the suspend key (either normal suspend or hibernate) does not work anymore. I also tried rebooting a machine and do a normal suspend after which I inserted the card. That does not work either. If the card was already inserted at boot time the system does not hang, and the card is correctly seen. However, in that case, removal of the card hangs the machine. If I hybernate the system and afterwards insert a card it also hangs. If I could help in anyway debugging this problem I'd surely like to. -Guido To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Sun Nov 25 4:22:22 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from gvr.gvr.org (gvr.gvr.org [212.61.40.17]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D427237B416 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 04:22:14 -0800 (PST) Received: by gvr.gvr.org (Postfix, from userid 657) id 825975809; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 13:22:13 +0100 (CET) Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 13:22:13 +0100 From: Guido van Rooij To: Warner Losh Cc: najib_ninaba@yahoo.com, Brooks Davis , freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Subject: Re: pccard kernel config for OmniBook 500 Message-ID: <20011125132213.A5323@gvr.gvr.org> References: <20011122183533.A2909@srikandi.spriggan.int> <20011119224721.A1348@srikandi.spriggan.int> <20011119104634.B12037@Odin.AC.HMC.Edu> <20011122183533.A2909@srikandi.spriggan.int> <200111222013.fAMKDi718295@harmony.village.org> <20011125125648.A4925@gvr.gvr.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20011125125648.A4925@gvr.gvr.org>; from guido@gvr.org on Sun, Nov 25, 2001 at 12:56:48PM +0100 Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org It gets weirder: If the machine hangs and I go to DDB and press 'n' a number of times, the system 'unhangs' itsself and card insertion and removal are working correctly. Looking at vmstat -i aftrewards, I see a ridiculous amount of interrupts on irq 10 (assigned to the builtin xl0). If I set hw.pcic.irq=10 the booting failes with a panic (cant route ISA CSC interrupt followed by panic: resource_list_release: can't find resource). I tried again rebooting with hw.pcic.init_routing=1 and hw.pcic.intr_path=2 It hangs as before. The funny thing is the if I go to the debugger, I see all input I typed. It thus looks like the screen is no longer updated. Yet that is not the complete story. What I tried next was to press return to get a single user /bin/sh and type echo ctrl-G. I got a beep but the beep never stopped. Using ddb again to use the 'n' trick resulted after a couple of time in a crash of the sh !? -Guido To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-mobile" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-mobile Sun Nov 25 7:37:53 2001 Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org Received: from shark.amis.net (shark.amis.net [212.18.32.14]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1CF2D37B405 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 07:37:47 -0800 (PST) Received: from baracuda.amis.net (baracuda.amis.net [212.18.32.4]) by shark.amis.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 959177C7C for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:45 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by baracuda.amis.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 626449B17 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:45 +0100 (CET) Received: from titanic.medinet.si (titanic.medinet.si [212.18.42.5]) by baracuda.amis.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 745BE9B15 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:44 +0100 (CET) Received: by titanic.medinet.si (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 0D01955421; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:44 +0100 (CET) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by titanic.medinet.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 04DC755420 for ; Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:44 +0100 (CET) Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 16:37:43 +0100 (CET) From: Blaz Zupan X-X-Sender: To: Subject: IPC TopNote G serial ports not working Message-ID: <20011125162349.L45942-100000@titanic.medinet.si> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-Virus-Scanned: by AMaViS perl-10 Sender: owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I'm trying to install FreeBSD on a mostly noname laptop (IPC TopNote G model Green797). Most of the hardware works fine, including PCCard, sound and graphics. I'm having trouble with the serial ports. I have tried 4.4-RELEASE, but then upgraded to 5.0-CURRENT, thinking that the ACPI support might help. If I put the sio0 line in /boot/device.hints, dmesg displays this: sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0 sio0 at port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 flags 0x10 on isa0 sio0: type 8250 If I remove the sio line from device.hints, sio does not even appear in the dmesg output. The laptop has a Phoenix BIOS and offers Win95/98, Win2000 and Other as options for the "PnP" setting in the BIOS. I set it to "Other", because that makes the sound and USB support work, but tried the other two settings without success. I searched the internet and found a mail from someone having the same problem installing Linux on such a laptop. My search for a BIOS upgrade was unfortunately unsuccessfull. Of course, the serial port works just fine under Windows ME. Any idea how I might get that damn serial port going? pnpinfo just displays this: Checking for Plug-n-Play devices... No Plug-n-Play devices were found Below are the dmesg and acpidump output. /root# dmesg Copyright (c) 1992-2001 The FreeBSD Project. I'm getting the one that has CD_R/CD_RW, DVD , and floppy in a kind of hot swap port. I don't care if the hot swap feature is supported or not in BSD, I just wonder how does freeBSD configure the device?? I mean can I boot one time with the dvd, other time with the CD-RW, stuff like that I will apreciate if someone with a presario with those features tell me how is doing, and the experience with the hot swap thing. I like it. I can play dvd's with mplayer and ogle, sound works fine the internal nic works as a dc. I have had no problems with the single pci slot. Both the floppy and the dvd/cd-rw work. I burn a cd a week or so. I have never tried the hot swap, I only use the floppy on occasion. X runs at 1024x768x16 and probably more but that is what I use. I'm trying to port the netbsd ucom/uplcom driver to freebsd, based on http://homepage2.nifty.com/tkuro/archive/uvisor.diff.gz the current work(tho nothing works, it only compiles :-/) is at http://www.clkao.org/tmp/uplcom.tar.gz I'm quite new to the usb world. attached is kernel dump traces I currently encountered. the panic happens when i cat /dev/ttyU0, and remove the palm from the sync cable (while usb is still connected). I also borrowed a visor platinum from my friend to test uvisor. unlike a message in bsd-usb archive, i got only one ucom attached instead of two, after pressing the sync button on the cradle. Combo NICs are often a problem. Depending on which ThinkPad you have, the internal modem might well be usable. Please post what version you are running as interrupt processing was totally re-worked for V4.4 and the irq line of pccard.conf is normally longer used. Are you setting any sysctl values for pcic? Can you show the dmesg from a boot? You my need to use the ps2 utility to modify BIOS to get things working right as the BIOS IRQ values are now generally honored. (ps2 is also known as the DOS ThinkPad Configuration Utility and is included with Windows on all ThinkPads. It may be downloaded from the IBM web site if you don't have it available and may be built on a bootable floppy.) Depending on the model of ThinkPad, you may need to tweak a few things for sound support. (Normally Crystal Audio cards are supported by the pcm driver, not the CS driver.) R. The ppp man page contains a great deal of information. I suggest that you try running pp manually from the command line interactively and you'll see what works and what doesn't. You mention that you never get the OK back from the modem, in 'term' mode of the ppp program you will be able to send an AT to the modem which should respond with OK. I use the Identical modem in my Inspiron 4000 with no problems, the init string I use is ATE1Q0L0M0 Also, I don't run kde so forgive my ignorance, does kppp have logging and debugging which you could turn on perhaps. I took it out of the kernel, and added bits to unload/load the sound module in suspend/resume rc scripts, and now sound comes back after resume, works fine, every time. I'm tempted to try similar things with my wireless card, which occasionally won't come back after resume, and seems to require a reboot. nathan --- Doug Ambrisko wrote: > Peter Radcliffe writes: > | "Brian T . I have read the instruction on freebsd.org but i just can't get it working. Every time i insert a card i get the message ' No card in database for "(null)"("(null)") ' . I have been trying two cards: a Zeus modem and a Maxtech Ethernet Adapter. Both run under linux and i think both are 16 bit but i am only 100% sure with the zeus modem. the other card is old so i think it should be 16 bit too. if have tried to change pccard_mem in rc.conf to 0xd4000, 0xd8000 and 0xe0000 as someone adviced me to do but it didn't work could there be an IRQ conflict? could an upgrade to freebsd 5.0 solve the problem ? I would appreciate if some could help me out with this problem. detailed information is below. thanks a lot PS: i hope this e-mailis is in plain text, it should be according to my mail client I'm running a Compaq Presario 1235, 266mhz 96 ram There are is only one pcmcia slot but two are detected. I don't think this is the problem because this also happens under linux and Win98. my /etc/defaults/pccard.conf is the original, i've only removed the IRQ 5 because i have an onboard sound card i don't have a /etc/pccard.conf file i haven't put pccard_enable="Yes" in /etc/rc.conf but a card gets detected anyways if it is inside at startup uname -a output: FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.4-RELEASE #0: Tue Sep 18 11:57:08 PDT 2001 murray@builder.FreeBSD.org:/usr/src/sys/compile/GENERIC i386 this is dmesg output i hope it isn't too long Copyright (c) 1992-2001 The FreeBSD Project.
