The other night I tried to ftp a copy of FreeBSD using IE. I eventually want to partition my hard drive and install Unix on the new partition. I do NOT know how to ftp using Windows. I clicked on the "ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/" and let the computer run on that URL for 24 hours. Then I had to take back the computer with nothing to show for it. Is there any suggestion of how I should carry out my eventual download of FreeBSD and then install it on a new partition that I am going to set up using Partition Magic 7.0? This requires a copy of the LEO archive, as well as a power down of all LEO services for short time (to put them on the UPS backed circuit). There should only be a short unavailability, but of course unexpected problems may happen anyway. Have a look at: http://www.leo.org/neues/umzug_garching_en.html for details. The problem is, they were uploaded by Kris on July 2 (judging by the timestamps). We don't keep the generated files any longer than 2 builds, so that INDEX is long gone. The only solution is to upload a new package set. Talking of stable, isn't possible (and maybe usefull) to make a releases/i386/4-STABLE directory with a packages link inside that points to packages-4-stable? That would make life a lot easier for people using sysinstall to go and update packages. They only need to set their release in the options to 4-STABLE and are on their way. that was the unclear part. i was under the impression packages-4-stable is rebuilt quite frequently ? it would be really really, yes really nice if packages-4-stable was able to be used as an install tree and had a INDEX file. thanks for responding murray. regards, -jason To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hubs" in the body of the message From
