This is not the correct mailing list to solicit/recruit employees. There is a mailing list for those posting resumes/job offers: freebsd-jobs@FreeBSD.org. Followups to this thread should be sent to that list. -- +-------------------+---------------------------------------------------+ | Chris Costello | You depend too much on computers for information. | | chris@FreeBSD.org | | +-------------------+---------------------------------------------------+ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-jobs" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-jobs Tue Jan 29 10:57:46 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-jobs@freebsd.org Received: from mooseriver.com (superior.mooseriver.com [205.166.121.28]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id C44FD37B400 for ; Tue, 29 Jan 2002 10:57:44 -0800 (PST) Received: (from jgrosch@localhost) by mooseriver.com (8.11.6/8.11.5) id g0TIvA452334; Tue, 29 Jan 2002 10:57:10 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from jgrosch) Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 10:57:10 -0800 From: Josef Grosch To: ba-jobs@bafug.org Cc: freebsd-jobs@freebsd.org Subject: Cupertino, Ca. consulting opportunity Message-ID: <20020129105710.A52257@mooseriver.com> Reply-To: jgrosch@mooseriver.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5.1i Sender: owner-freebsd-jobs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org ----- Forwarded message from Steve Tripodi ----- On Tue, Jan 29, 2002 at 11:16:47AM -0500, Steve Tripodi wrote: > Hello, > > We have a client in Cupertino, CA looking for a consultant with Device > Drivers experience both as a developer and tester. Various forms of my resume may be found: * PostScript http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/resume.ps * PDF http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/resume.pdf * HTML http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/resume.html * ASCII text http://www.catwhisker.org/~david/resume.txt Things that aren't in the resume, some of which may be of interest: * I've actually been administering UNIX since 1986, when I started (one of?) the first free public-access UNIX systems in Orange County, CA. (This had a bit of a rocky start, but the story is a bit long & technical for this message. Suffice it to say (for now) that a bit of book-learning can be useful -- in this case, for exploiting an aspect of UNIX designed to enhance performance for something almost totally unrelated... in order to make the install possible.) * One of the Very Cool things about my most recent position has been the opportunity to contribute back to the FreeBSD community (and, indirectly, to the rest of the BSD community, as well). The reason I find this worthwhile is that I have certainly benefitted from the work the BSD community has made freely available, and though there's no way I can actually "repay" that debt, I am pleased to be able to help where I can -- even if it's mostly taking care of infrastructure stuff so others can get their development work done better (or faster, or ...). * If you're doing FreeBSD-based development work, I suggest that this will be made easier by maintaining a local copy of the FreeBSD CVS repository. Something else that can be helpful is a "reference system" that is used to track -STABLE and/or -CURRENT on a regular basis. These are respects in which I can help: I have been doing this on my own systems for some time now; I like to think I'm fairly good at it. (One of the systems on which I do all of these things is my laptop, for example.) * Though it's getting a little dated, I'm somewhat familiar with Solaris 2.x, and can usually make other UNIX variants do what I want. * My background is in programming, though the vast bulk of what I do any more is in Perl. Still, some of those have been fairly involved -- and I can still sling C enough to have participated in hacking the internals of sendmail back in late '99. * One of the more significant aspects of what I do for a living is helping others learn how to use tools (better, more effectively, &c.) Thus, teaching (or mentoring) is an integral part of what I do. I much prefer this to hand-holding: that gets old -- and in the long term, it's not all that useful for the others involved. * "Wireless Ethernet" (802.11 (well, 802.11b, at least; I've not used 802.11a -- yet)) is very convenient -- especially for meetings. But it has certain characteristics that restrict its application. This is something with which I am rather familiar: among other things, I use it at home. * One of the things that can reduce some of the problems with 802.11 is the use of an encrypted channel, such as is provided via SSH. I strongly encourage this: once set up, it helps make a computing environment that is both convenient and (reasonably) secure at the same time. I think this is A Very Good Thing. * I typically use my own tools & books (a practice from my consulting days), and am willing to share them (within reason). And yes, I can make my own patch (and other) Ethernet cables on demand. :-} * I'm open to telecommuting, especially using SSH, as well as occasional travel. Relocation is rather unlikely, however. * Just because I don't use Microsoft products doesn't mean that I won't work with others who do use them. * I bring fresh fruit in (from the back yard and/or the in-laws' orchard) when it's in season. :-) If you think you might be interested in my services, I'd like to hear from you. Return email is likely to be nearly optimal; other contact information is available in the resume. Thanks, david -- David H. Wolfskill david@catwhisker.org I believe it would be irresponsible (and thus, unethical) for me to advise, recommend, or support the use of any product that is or depends on any Microsoft product for any purpose other than personal amusement.
