When I try that the interface goes up and I can ping the localhost and the local IP address but am unable to get any traffic to or from the network, the switch also shows the interface as up but sees no traffic from it. If I on the other hand start the machine without the media and mediaopt flags for ifconfig in rc.conf and run "ifconfig media 100baseTX mediaopt full-duplex" by hand after startup I have no problems and the interface is fixed to that speed and duplex. Changing the interface in the same manner to AUTO after a unsuccessful boot does not give the same results, the ifconfig output changes but the interface does not work. /Oli -- Olafur Osvaldsson Systems Administrator Internet a Islandi hf. So I installed the latest ISO Snapshot (20021031) onto one of the T1/105. But (after trying other sparc64-*BSD ports) there is just the same problem in the FreeBSD port: the FIRST detected hme gets TWO phy's attached. It isn't working at all. The next detected hme (two onboard...) has one phy and does work well. Then, another thing: the pci scan is in the wrong order. It detects the devices "backwards" as other OS (and Solaris, too) will do correctly. This gets to wrong device numbering (f. ex. hme0 and hme1 are swapped, they don't match the text written at the chassis). I'm going to cvsup asap (is it in the "normal" cvs branch?), but don't think that this behaviour has changed till now... If there is need to have some (lets say: 2?) T1/105 in access for developing, I can manage to setup them at our lab, connect them with IP and can provide (IP-)access to a serial console server, too. Would be nice to see the 5.0R working on that systems ;) Cu, Oliver To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Wed Nov 20 4:45:45 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AAA2737B406 for ; Wed, 20 Nov 2002 04:45:44 -0800 (PST) Received: from alpha.de.tiscali.com (alpha.de.tiscali.com [62.27.91.200]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 85C0B43E6E for ; Wed, 20 Nov 2002 04:45:43 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from oliver.blasnik@de.tiscali.com) Received: from TECHNIK47 (unknown [10.49.10.29]) by alpha.de.tiscali.com (Postfix) with SMTP id 1EB6B64C1C for ; Wed, 20 Nov 2002 13:45:36 +0100 (CET) Message-ID: <00bd01c29092$b92bde00$1d0a310a@de.tiscali.com> From: "Oliver Blasnik" To: References: <009c01c29088$9ab8f5c0$1d0a310a@de.tiscali.com> Subject: Re: HME (Happy Meal Ethernet) and T1/105... Le coыt de l'abonnement pour un an est de 197$. Abonnez-vous avant le 1ier dйcembre 2002 pour seulement 7$, vous recevrez trois lettres comme celle-ci par la poste au cours des trois prochains mois. didierroussy@hotmail.com Envoyez maintenant votre chиque ou mandat poste а l'ordre de: Didier Bonneville-Roussy 692 Rang York, St-Barthйlemy Quйbec J0K 1XO Sincиrement, Didier Bonneville-Roussy -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ne plus resevoire ce courriel : Didier_b_r@yahoo.ca -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Wed Nov 20 21:25:48 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id CD72F37B404 for ; Wed, 20 Nov 2002 21:25:47 -0800 (PST) Received: from lakemtai04.cox.net (lakemtai04.cox.net [68.1.17.251]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EB0B443E42 for ; Wed, 20 Nov 2002 21:25:46 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from acrosby@ameritech.net) Received: from terminus ([68.99.98.92]) by lakemtai04.cox.net (InterMail vM.5.01.04.05 201-253-122-122-105-20011231) with SMTP id <20021121052545.ZJKE23554.lakemtai04.cox.net@terminus> for ; Thu, 21 Nov 2002 00:25:45 -0500 From: "Adam Crosby" To: Subject: RE: FreeBSD 5.0-DP2 for Sparc? This is probably because its PCI Specs ;) Even SUN themselves said to do so: in pci(4) they write: "For a PCI device with only one function, the Function number must be 0.". Bad to see that they don't follow their own specifications. I'm happy to announce that the UltraSparc 5.0-DP2 bits are now available on ftp-master and should be appearing on ftp mirrors shortly. These bits include the FTP install directory as well as the mini and disc2 ISO images. Please note that only CD installs have been tested at this point. If you wish to try an FTP install, please let us know how it goes. Please see http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.0R/DP2/announce.html for more details. -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-sparc" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-sparc Thu Nov 21 7:44:23 2002 Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EE3A937B401; Thu, 21 Nov 2002 07:44:22 -0800 (PST) Received: from newtrinity.zeist.de (newtrinity.zeist.de [193.111.112.230]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1A72343E3B; Thu, 21 Nov 2002 07:44:22 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from marius@newtrinity.zeist.de) Received: from newtrinity.zeist.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by newtrinity.zeist.de (8.12.6/8.12.6/ZEIST.DE) with ESMTP id gALFiAGF082450; Thu, 21 Nov 2002 16:44:10 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from marius@newtrinity.zeist.de) Received: (from marius@localhost) by newtrinity.zeist.de (8.12.6/8.12.6/Submit) id gALFi5oa082449; Thu, 21 Nov 2002 16:44:05 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from marius) Date: Thu, 21 Nov 2002 16:44:05 +0100 From: marius@alchemy.franken.de To: Oliver Blasnik Cc: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG, Mike Smith Subject: Re: Fw: [PATCH] HME (Happy Meal Ethernet) and T1/105... As I found no datasheet for it I asked a friend of mine for register compatibility. He told me "like 83840". The OUI and Model numbers are the same for both the 1216F probed and the 6612 specs. Should be the same chip, then. > moreover, the lu6612 also isn't driver-compatible to the dp83840, > at least the linux hme-driver distinguishes between the two (look for > is_lucent_phy() in linux/drivers/net/sunhme.c; I did, and I love that comments in this source ;) And again, it seems you're right, as there's no use of extended registers if the Lucent is detected. Possibly unneeded, as the 83840 has its special registers from 0x12-0x19, whereas the Lucent ranges 0x1c-0x1e. I thank you a lot for that information (and going to kick someone for his...) Now, after I inspected the 6612 datasheet, there is nothing special to support (possibly the 10mbit-mode: "extended line length"), so someone can live with the default support and ukphy. Somewhat like a "genphy" device would be nice instead the uk (its more a generic driver in my opinion), at least for printing out KNOWN device information (which can't come from a ukphy = unknown phy driver). Very interesting this is... Isn't that chip an ordinary NEC 53c94 at SBus? Supported from OpenBSD with the esp(4) driver? If there is any HowTo on porting OpenBSD to FreeBSD SCSI drivers, I can take a look at it. But - I don't have an U1/U2 for testing this out. Any other Hardware where this controller is used? Jonathan, could you try to boot from an OpenBSD image and take a look at the probes/dmsg? This would help a lot. I have a lot of sparc64 in access I can get for some days, now is the chance ;) I'm also going to review why the additional pci hme does not work but expect to see a problem somewhere in bridge problems/irq routing. So, if > the QFE doesn't, too, this probably is a global brigde/IRQ Problem. I have one of these cards which Thomas and I got to work this week, there are some issues with pci interrupt routing. We're in code freeze right now so its taking a little while to get stuff committed though. I think this patch should make it work unless I'm forgetting something else that needed to change. It will break pci on some machines though. Porting the driver to FreeBSD is not as easy as it looks because FreeBSD uses cam; there's no guide that I know of. Sure, but I'd need a bit of instruction (see, I'm -really- new to BSD, as I've just started working at a FreeBSD shop, coming from a Linux/Solaris shop, and a Linux/Solaris/NT background). If you can tell me what you want me to do, I can do it. Err, wait. Whoops. A few minutes ago I dd'd the OpenBSD 3.2 miniroot to the swap disk on my Ultra 2. Then, thinking I'd done it wrong, I tried to clear the swap and rebooted. Hey, look, it booted OpenBSD!... So should be of interest to several FreeBSD- porting projects. > Porting the driver to FreeBSD is not as easy as it looks because > FreeBSD uses cam; there's no guide that I know of. There was a non-cam-Version out for FreeBSD, but this isn't a solution. I tried to feed it the FreeBSD kernel and it panic()ed due to the kernel needing the FreeBSD loader. Reading diskless(8) suggests that options MFS options BOOTP options BOOTP_NFSROOT options BOOTP_COMPAT is needed but GENERIC doesn't seem to have BOOTP* options. I'm wondering if that's even true for a U2 since I boot NetBSD diskless w.o./BOOTP, the OpenPROM will eventually ask for bootparamd if it doesn't see any BOOTP response. Does anyone have a working diskless FreeBSD/sparc64? Can anyone supply me with the parts or instructions? Thanks, Ken __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
