However if your disk > allready has a disklabel all is well. Ok, then I haven't fixed it. I will try to play with this some when I get some time. Sorry. :( This is probably the problem on the ES40. If the guy with the ES40 could try to take the first disk out and label it in another already-installed machine that might work. Either that or use the fixit option and run disklabel manually maybe? -- John Baldwin <>< http://www.FreeBSD.org/~jhb/ "Power Users Use the Power to Serve!" - http://www.FreeBSD.org/ To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-alpha Mon Feb 3 10:45: 4 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1618937B401 for ; Mon, 3 Feb 2003 10:45:03 -0800 (PST) Received: from ms-smtp-02.tampabay.rr.com (ms-smtp-02.tampabay.rr.com [65.32.1.39]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7514F43E4A for ; Mon, 3 Feb 2003 10:45:02 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from b@brodie.org) Received: from orca.brodie.hn.org (34.102.26.24.cfl.rr.com [24.26.102.34]) by ms-smtp-02.tampabay.rr.com (8.12.5/8.12.5) with SMTP id h13IioEr012209; Mon, 3 Feb 2003 13:44:53 -0500 (EST) From: Brodie Hynes To: Geoff Buckingham , freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Alphaserver 800 RAM Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 13:44:48 -0500 X-Mailer: KMail [version 1.1.99] Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" References: <20030203162009.GB7350@chuggalug.clues.com> In-Reply-To: <20030203162009.GB7350@chuggalug.clues.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Message-Id: <0302031344480A.19857@orca.brodie.hn.org> Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Sender: owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org I called Digital/Compaq a while ago about this, but for a DEC Server 3305, which as I understand is the same hardware as the AS800. And as far as the tech could find in manuals when I called, just standard 3.3v ECC EDO DIMMs. -> buffered 60ns but I'm pretty sure he did say 50ns would work as well. but not to mix the timings within the banks. (and have identical sticks within the banks as well) This was confirmed on this list June 27, 2001 by Brett Bump who got his ram from Coast-to-coast memory. he said "You want the 60ns 3.3v ecc "Buffered" EDO dimms." http://docs.freebsd.org/mail/archive/2001/freebsd-alpha/20010701.freebsd-alpha.html messages 14(my question) and 15(Brett's reply). I've been considering the ram at kahlon.com. It's are 50ns, but haven't gotten them yet. I'll mention it when I do. -Brodie On Monday 03 February 2003 11:20, Geoff Buckingham wrote: > Sorry to ba asking a hardware question but, is anybody succesfully using > nongital memory in their Alphaserver 800 (Regular ECC EDO DIMMs)? > > If so is it buffered or unbuffered? > Is it 50 or 60ns? > > > To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org > with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-alpha" in the body of the message From owner-freebsd-alpha Wed Feb 5 5:10:22 2003 Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5706837B406 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:10:18 -0800 (PST) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 038BC43FA7 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:10:11 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (gnats@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6) with ESMTP id h15DABNS001018 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:10:11 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.6/8.12.6/Submit) id h15DABg3001017; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:10:11 -0800 (PST) Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0BC8137B401 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:04:41 -0800 (PST) Received: from ns1.smartnet.ca (ns1.smartnet.ca [216.113.20.5]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id EE98743F85 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 05:04:39 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from chrisr@beosppc.org) Received: from homeipaq (modemcable024.20-131-66.nowhere.mc.videotron.ca [66.131.20.24]) by ns1.smartnet.ca (8.11.0/8.11.0) with SMTP id h15D4cj07966 for ; Wed, 5 Feb 2003 08:04:38 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <066501c2cd17$23bd0fd0$0a04a8c0@PLANETEORANGE.CA> Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 08:04:32 -0500 From: "Chris Rupnik" To: Subject: alpha/47952: DEFPA causes machine check with V5.0-release Sender: owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk List-ID: List-Archive: (Web Archive) List-Help: (List Instructions) List-Subscribe: List-Unsubscribe: X-Loop: FreeBSD.org >Number: 47952 >Category: alpha >Synopsis: DEFPA causes machine check with V5.0-release >Confidential: no >Severity: serious >Priority: high >Responsible: freebsd-alpha >State: open >Quarter: >Keywords: >Date-Required: >Class: sw-bug >Submitter-Id: current-users >Arrival-Date: Wed Feb 05 05:10:11 PST 2003 >Closed-Date: >Last-Modified: >Originator: Christopher Rupnik >Release: FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE alpha >Organization: >Environment: System: FreeBSD alpha2.geeknet.montreal.qc.ca 5.0-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.0-RELEASE #0: Fri Jan 17 01:14:51 GMT 2003 root@mithlond.btc.adaptec.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC alpha attached is a boot -v Copyright (c) 1992-2003 The FreeBSD Project.
