So anyone who'd love to sync from us is > welcome. Everyone, If you already provide rsync access or if you want to feed other sites with rsync like this the help is greatly appreciated. But please make sure it's done in such a way that only the Official Mirror Sites can get to "staged" releases (files posted with "other" permission closed down). Usually this means if you have anonymous rsync enabled it runs as a different user than you do your sync's as. If you do down-feed any Official Mirror Sites it can usually be done by running a separate rsync on a non-standard port that has an acl. If in doubt about whether someone who asks is an Official site or not please ask (mirror-admin@freebsd.org). Sorry if that seems extreme, but the re@ folks need to have a clear cut way to know that what gets staged to the main site does not become public until they're ready for it. In the past there have been times when the release got prepped and they started to load it onto ftp-master but then something nasty happened (sendmail bug is the one I remember) and they needed to re-roll the release. It's a Release Engineering nightmare to have two different things out there that are considered to be "the release"... You also don't want to be the only site on the Internet that has the release publically available and have someone notice that, who then mentions it on slashdot... :-/ -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 27 13:07:01 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7E02116A4BF for ; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 13:07:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU [128.205.32.2]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7D95D43F85 for ; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 13:07:00 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from kensmith@cse.Buffalo.EDU) Received: from electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (kensmith@localhost [127.0.0.1]) h7RK6xlu007959; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 16:06:59 -0400 (EDT) Received: (from kensmith@localhost) by electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h7RK6xbA007958; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 16:06:59 -0400 (EDT) Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 16:06:59 -0400 From: Ken Smith To: Eberhard Moenkeberg Message-ID: <20030827200659.GB6593@electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU> References: <20030827211525.G577@korben.in.tern> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i cc: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Subject: Re: rsync beta testers? Cool. :-) If this config works we hope we can take some of the load off ftp-master.freebsd.org with this. At the moment it's actually a pair of machines. A i386 machine is doing the cvsup's from ftp-master.freebsd.org and, after I get a little more memory for it, it will become ftp-master.us.freebsd.org offering cvsup access for people who get better network performance from this machine than ftp-master.freebsd.org. I'm sorta hoping to have the extra memory some time next week (I also need time to get the cvsupd config set up). This rsync-master machine will do the rsync stuff separately if it works out. -- Ken Smith - From there to here, from here to | kensmith@cse.buffalo.edu there, funny things are everywhere. | - Theodore Geisel | From owner-freebsd-hubs@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Aug 27 13:21:41 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 0C25316A4BF for ; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 13:21:41 -0700 (PDT) Received: from mailer.gwdg.de (mailer.gwdg.de [134.76.10.26]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2CA4843FDD for ; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 13:21:40 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from emoenke@gwdg.de) Received: from gwdu05.gwdg.de ([134.76.98.95]) by mailer.gwdg.de with esmtp (Exim 4.20) id 19s6nT-0004Z4-4Y for freebsd-hubs@freebsd.org; Wed, 27 Aug 2003 22:21:39 +0200 Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 22:21:38 +0200 (MEST) From: Eberhard Moenkeberg To: In-Reply-To: <20030827200659.GB6593@electra.cse.Buffalo.EDU> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII X-Spam-Report: -2.4/6.0 ---- Start SpamAssassin results -2.40 points, 6 required; * 0.0 -- Message-Id indicates a non-spam MUA (Pine) * -0.3 -- BODY: Contains twice quoted reply * -1.6 -- BODY: Contains what looks like an email attribution * -0.5 -- BODY: Contains what looks like a quoted email text ---- End of SpamAssassin results X-Spam-Level: -- X-Virus-Scanned: (clean) by exiscan+sophie Subject: Re: rsync beta testers?
