I know this is 5.1-rush right now, but I'd still like to share this somewhere since I think it's pretty important in order to get 5.x stable. I'm having problems playing mp3s correctly using XMMS. Usually, after a fresh boot I can play music properly, but it still sounds slow (kind of hard to tell though). During *and* after massive I/O (mozilla scratching, major compilation, etc), the audio gets garbled as a bonus. This problem is widely documented in the -current archives: Thread "Adjustig pcm buffersize|: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=3D359907+0+/usr/local/www/db/te= xt/2003/freebsd-current/20030420.freebsd-current In particular, this message: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=3D558987+0+/usr/local/www/db/te= xt/2003/freebsd-current/20030420.freebsd-current =2E.. puts out a clear listing of the possible causes, altough I don't know the internals enough to tell wether it makes sense. :) The thread "playing mp3s while burning a cd", very rich in many different users similar experiences: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/getmsg.cgi?fetch=3D177274+0+/usr/local/www/db/te= xt/2003/freebsd-current/20030330.freebsd-current What I think is that this should get a place in the "Desired features for 5.2-RELEASE" listing. Maybe it's gonna resolve by itself as the "Must resolve issues" get hacked through, but I still think it's a good thing to double-check. But if it's too much hassle, no sweat. It's not like I'm going to forget. I switched from a P166 to a Duron 1Gz for my workstation and I expect to be able to play mp3s without skipping, to say the least. :) Thanks, A. --=20 Nothing incites to money-crimes like great poverty or great wealth. - Mark Twain --St7VIuEGZ6dlpu13 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (FreeBSD) iD8DBQE+2luhttcWHAnWiGcRAnhWAJ9p1xUBzAjb6BLMjcastJFflGPzgQCdGy3f TcxJ2xBkuaCESKs+prLe4L4= =cNdx -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --St7VIuEGZ6dlpu13-- From owner-freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jun 2 11:02:23 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA8E437B40B for ; Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:02:23 -0700 (PDT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8E23343FBD for ; Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:02:21 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (peter@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id h52I2LUp081588 for ; Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:02:21 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org) Received: (from peter@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id h52I2Kvo081583 for qa@freebsd.org; Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:02:21 -0700 (PDT) Date: Mon, 2 Jun 2003 11:02:21 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200306021802.h52I2Kvo081583@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: peter set sender to owner-bugmaster@freebsd.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: qa@FreeBSD.org Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Quality Assurance List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 02 Jun 2003 18:02:24 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems S Submitted Tracker Resp. Either in the interface configuration, or, more likely, the Linux emulation package, a chown to root.operator is performed, apparently twice. Given that . is no longer a valid seperator, the chown is obviously not happening. -Brian From owner-freebsd-qa@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Jun 4 15:33:10 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B7E2A37B401 for ; Wed, 4 Jun 2003 15:33:10 -0700 (PDT) Received: from smtp1-ha.chilitech.net (smtp1-ha.chilitech.net [63.174.244.3]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D009243F85 for ; Wed, 4 Jun 2003 15:33:09 -0700 (PDT) (envelope-from ) Received: (qmail 26721 invoked by uid 505); 4 Jun 2003 22:33:13 -0000 Date: 4 Jun 2003 22:33:13 -0000 From: "System Anti-Virus Administrator" To: FreeBSD-qa@FreeBSD.org Message-ID: X-Tnz-Problem-Type: 40 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain Subject: virus found in sent message "Approved" X-BeenThere: freebsd-qa@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: FreeBSD Quality Assurance List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 04 Jun 2003 22:33:11 -0000 Attention: FreeBSD-qa@FreeBSD.org A virus was found in an Email message you sent.
