In my case I also have the lines: src-crypto src-secure but it may very well be that you don't need those anymore. -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sun Nov 9 16:13:05 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2C55216A4CF for ; Sun, 9 Nov 2003 16:13:05 -0800 (PST) Received: from poros.telenet-ops.be (poros.telenet-ops.be [195.130.132.44]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 322D143FD7 for ; Sun, 9 Nov 2003 16:13:04 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from ward@webware.be) Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by poros.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with SMTP id 710062E68F7; Mon, 10 Nov 2003 01:13:03 +0100 (MET) Received: from Static.thuis.be (D5768D40.kabel.telenet.be [213.118.141.64]) by poros.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1426F2E68CB; Mon, 10 Nov 2003 01:13:03 +0100 (MET) From: Ward Viaene To: Garance A Drosihn , freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: References: <1068420378.2203.17.camel@Static.thuis.be> Content-Type: text/plain Message-Id: <1068423187.2198.37.camel@Static.thuis.be> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.5 Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 01:13:07 +0100 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: kernelbuild failure X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: ward@webware.be List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 00:13:05 -0000 On Mon, 2003-11-10 at 01:07, Garance A Drosihn wrote: > At 12:26 AM +0100 11/10/03, Ward Viaene wrote: > >Hi, > >I am trying to do a make buildkernel KERNCONF=GENERIC in /usr/src, using > >FreeBSD 5.1 (uname: FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE #10: Mon Aug 4 00:10:10 CEST > >sparc64), after a while I get this error: > >./aicasm -nostdinc -I- -I. -I/usr/src/sys -I/usr/src/sys/dev > >-I/usr/src/sys/contrib/dev/acpica -I/usr/src/sys/contrib/ipfilter > >-I/usr/src/sys/cam/scsi -I/usr/src/sys/dev/aic7xxx -o aic7xxx_seq.h -r > >aic7xxx_reg.h -p aic7xxx_reg_print.c -i > >/usr/src/sys/dev/aic7xxx/aic7xxx_osm.h > >/usr/src/sys/dev/aic7xxx/aic7xxx.seq > >./aicasm: 879 instructions used > >make: don't know how to make /usr/src/sys/libkern/arc4random.c. Yeah, I'm sorry, this was an old error I saved... but I've got the same with GENERIC (STORM was a copy of GENERIC). I already deleted /usr/obj/* before my last buildworld, it didn't help. I will try src-crypto and src-secure. The error message that I'm hanging on ("resetting devices") is found in /exports/usr.current/sys/dev/ata/ata-all.c. which was last updated Nov 3. I suspect a kernel and world from Nov 2 would thus be okay. Unfortunately, my CVSup-foo isn't up to the task of grabbing a particular date (though I think "*default date=" will do the trick). Come to think on it, that's a short-term solution anyway - it doesn't actually fix anything. I'll just keep an eye on that file for commits for a bit. I just did a cvsup, buildworld, buildkernel on my sparc64 system, and it all compiled fine. In my case I am using "tag=." (5.x-current), but I don't remember if that was what you were trying to build. -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Nov 11 14:36:40 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5882A16A4CE for ; Tue, 11 Nov 2003 14:36:40 -0800 (PST) Received: from apate.telenet-ops.be (apate.telenet-ops.be [195.130.132.57]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 33BD743F93 for ; Tue, 11 Nov 2003 14:36:39 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from ward@webware.be) Received: from localhost (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by apate.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with SMTP id EA0EA37E67 for ; Tue, 11 Nov 2003 23:36:37 +0100 (MET) Received: from Static.thuis.be (D5768C53.kabel.telenet.be [213.118.140.83]) by apate.telenet-ops.be (Postfix) with ESMTP id A567A37EBE for ; Tue, 11 Nov 2003 23:36:37 +0100 (MET) From: Ward Viaene To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org In-Reply-To: References: <1068420378.2203.17.camel@Static.thuis.be> <1159.193.190.138.75.1068470784.squirrel@webmail.webware.be> Content-Type: text/plain Message-Id: <1068590202.2197.8.camel@Static.thuis.be> Mime-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Ximian Evolution 1.4.5 Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 23:36:42 +0100 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Subject: Re: kernelbuild failure X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list Reply-To: ward@webware.be List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 11 Nov 2003 22:36:40 -0000 Hi, I deleted /usr/src, omg it was so easy:(, rebuilded world and kernel and I didn't get any errors anymore. I added the following options to my kernel: device sc device splash # optional option KBD_INSTALL_CDEV device creator device uart # Multi-uart driver device puc and then ran moused -t mousesystems -p /dev/uart3. vidcontrol -m also allows you to use the mouse from syscons, as on i386 (this was not previously working with jake's code). The XFree86-server package isn't currently available on the ftp sites because it failed to build on the last package run due to a gcc bug, but this is apparently fixed with gcc 3.3.3, and I hope to retry the build in the next few days. In the meantime, everything should compile successfully from ports as long as you have an up-to-date world. A few months ago I got GNOME and KDE working on this machine to the extent that I could test them, so unless there's been a regression they should still work out of the box. Mozilla and Firebird also run (but the last time I ran them natively there were bugs that seemed to be due to threading, which caused regular crashes during input and deadlocks loading multiple tabs). I use Windowmaker - the only issue I know of here is a RGB bug in libtiff that causes the R and B channels of the image to be exchanged. I fixed this at one point, but it seems to have crept back in. Applications that I know do not work: * Doom :( * Anything that uses SDL * mplayer (plays movies, but the color pallette is wrong) So there's work still to be done, but overall things are looking very good! More questions for you all: Is this the only image file I need to burn for installing netBSD to my sparc20? So I just burn it and pop it in, right? ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/NetBSD/iso/1.6/sparc_bootable.iso More importantly, I am trying to test the low level file session (open, close, read, close, seek, etc) performance difference between: 1. netBSD on SUN Sparc20 2. FreeBSD on Dell precision 410 (P2 450MHz) similar in RAM. I am hoping to find out if it's wiser to use SUN hardware or PC hardware under *BSD. Has anyone done this sort of comparision before? I am writing my own testing programs. But it would be nice to know other's similar work. Thanks! If you want to compare hardware, compare same-generation hardware running the same operating system (e.g. Sun Blade 150 workstation against your Dell Precision, both running FreeBSD-CURRENT). The Sparc20 is nearly ten years old and doesn't run FreeBSD. If you want to compare operating systems, you need to run them on the same hardware. I'm thinking there is a timing issue a la the log message for ata-lowlevel.c rev 1.21. Setting the loader tunable hw.ata.ata_dma=0 has no effect on the problem (although the disk comes up at PIO4 as expected). Using the power switch and checking "show intr", it appears the ATA chip is getting stuck with the interrupt asserted: db> show intr fast pil13 5 ithrd pil2 3016775 pcib0 vec2021 2 sab0 vec2027 5 atapci0 vec2016 3016775 tick pil14 5067 Next steps: ata-chipset.c has a special interrupt override for 648 and newer chipsets, into the SiI bits. I'll try changing the interrupt handler registration to use SIIINTR. The monitor is a Compaq S910 connected through an adapter. I'm never getting video on the thing. If I power up with the monitor + keyboard connected I see the LED on the front of monitor go somewhere between green & orange (I think this means it's not getting a frequency it can lock to?). I've tried playing with the output-device variable (with the serial port) to no avail with a variety of settings at 1024x768 and 1280x1024 which the monitor should handle. (like setenv output-device screen:r1280x1024x60) However, there's no change in behavior - can anyone point me at a FAQ or tell me how to make the fb usable at least for the console? many thanks, dave c From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 15 01:14:23 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2309816A4CE for ; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 01:14:23 -0800 (PST) Received: from smtpzilla2.xs4all.nl (smtpzilla2.xs4all.nl [194.109.127.138]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 827BC43FA3 for ; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 01:14:21 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from wkb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: from freebie.xs4all.nl (freebie.xs4all.nl [213.84.32.253]) by smtpzilla2.xs4all.nl (8.12.9/8.12.9) with ESMTP id hAF9EJK2064625; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 10:14:19 +0100 (CET) Received: from freebie.xs4all.nl (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freebie.xs4all.nl (8.12.9p2/8.12.9) with ESMTP id hAF9EIcH019960; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 10:14:18 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from wkb@freebie.xs4all.nl) Received: (from wkb@localhost) by freebie.xs4all.nl (8.12.9p2/8.12.9/Submit) id hAF9EI1a019959; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 10:14:18 +0100 (CET) (envelope-from wkb) Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 10:14:18 +0100 From: Wilko Bulte To: Kris Kennaway Message-ID: <20031115091418.GA19917@freebie.xs4all.nl> References: <20031112110553.GA36806@xor.obsecurity.org> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20031112110553.GA36806@xor.obsecurity.org> User-Agent: Mutt/1.4.1i X-OS: FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE X-PGP: finger wilko@freebsd.org cc: sparc64@freebsd.org Subject: Re: XFree86 working with CVS sources X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 09:14:23 -0000 On Wed, Nov 12, 2003 at 03:05:53AM -0800, Kris Kennaway wrote: > With the changes jake committed to CVS in the past few days, XFree86 > is working on my ultra30 with stock CVS sources. Hi Kris, Apart from some Sig11s on rman during the XFree build I got a X installation compiled and installed now on my U30 / Creator3D. What I see is included below. Obviously I'm wondering about the (EE) SUNFFB: Failed to load module "xf8_32wid" (module does not exist, 0) Is the Creator3D a problem for Xfree maybe? X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 06:24:30 -0000 Recently on the freebsd-sparc64 list, it was mentioned that it would be nice to upgrade time_t on that port to be 64-bit. It is pretty obvious (to me at least) that we could bite the bullet and do it (disruptively) right now. If we don't, then (IMO) we pretty much have to wait until the 6.x-branch. On the plus side for doing it RightNow: The amd64 and ia64 ports already have a 64-bit time_t, and it would be nice if the sparc64 port did too. It will be easier to do it now (when sparc64 has very few users), then it will be a few years from now (by the time 6.0-release is released). Harti Brandt did do a buildworld/installworld of a 64-bit time_t on sparc64, and it seemed to work pretty well once he made it through the install. On the minus side: The sparc64 port is big-endian, while the ia64 and amd64 ports are little-endian, so incorrect code is more likely to cause serious problems on sparc64. (maybe that's a good thing...). There is already plenty to do for 5.2-release. The code freeze is about 48 hours away. When this came up on the sparc64 list, I believe there were four people who offered to do help with some of the work that would be caused by making this change. Me, Marcel, Matt@grogged.dyndns, and Harti. No one jumped up and said they were explicitly against the idea. On the other hand, none of us who do want the change really have a lot of time to devote to whatever problems come up. Given the imminent code freeze, I am not comfortable with commiting the actual change for 64-bit time_t on sparc64 given only four people who seem actively interested. On the other hand, I haven't the slightest idea how many people are actively running sparc64... Maybe four is a significant part of the active userbase! So, I thought I'd explicitly say that I don't think we should make the change this late in the game.. But I *would* be happy if other developers wanted to shout me down and go ahead with the it... :-) -- Garance Alistair Drosehn = gad@gilead.netel.rpi.edu Senior Systems Programmer or gad@freebsd.org Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or drosih@rpi.edu From owner-freebsd-sparc64@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 15 17:19:53 2003 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 8BB7116A4CF; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 17:19:53 -0800 (PST) Received: from cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org [192.58.184.37]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 94FB443FD7; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 17:19:52 -0800 (PST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: from cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) hAG1Jpv9011239; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 20:19:51 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Received: (from des@localhost) by cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org (8.12.9/8.12.9/Submit) id hAG1JpMb011238; Sat, 15 Nov 2003 20:19:51 -0500 (EST) (envelope-from des+tinderbox@freebsd.org) Date: Sat, 15 Nov 2003 20:19:51 -0500 (EST) Message-Id: <200311160119.hAG1JpMb011238@cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org> X-Authentication-Warning: cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org: des set sender to Tinderbox using -f Sender: Tinderbox From: Tinderbox To: current@freebsd.org, sparc64@freebsd.org Precedence: bulk Subject: [current tinderbox] failure on sparc64/sparc64 X-BeenThere: freebsd-sparc64@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Sparc List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 16 Nov 2003 01:19:53 -0000 TB --- 2003-11-16 00:01:57 - tinderbox 2.2 running on cueball.rtp.FreeBSD.org TB --- 2003-11-16 00:01:57 - starting CURRENT tinderbox run for sparc64/sparc64 TB --- 2003-11-16 00:01:57 - checking out the source tree TB --- cd /home/des/tinderbox/CURRENT/sparc64/sparc64 TB --- /usr/bin/cvs -f -R -q -d/home/ncvs update -Pd -A src TB --- 2003-11-16 00:04:11 - building world TB --- cd /home/des/tinderbox/CURRENT/sparc64/sparc64/src TB --- /usr/bin/make -B buildworld >>> Rebuilding the temporary build tree >>> stage 1.1: legacy release compatibility shims >>> stage 1.2: bootstrap tools >>> stage 2.1: cleaning up the object tree >>> stage 2.2: rebuilding the object tree >>> stage 2.3: build tools >>> stage 3: cross tools >>> stage 4.1: building includes >>> stage 4.2: building libraries >>> stage 4.3: make dependencies >>> stage 4.4: building everything..
