The exploit lets FreeBSD reboot spontaneously. This has been confirmed from three people in #freebsd.de on Quakenet. Affected are at least boxes running 5.2.1-RELEASE-px and 5.2-CURRENT (approx. 1 week old). However not all systems running these versions seem to be affected. >How-To-Repeat: As user or root: Compile http://linuxreviews.org/news/2004-06-11_kernel_crash/crash.c.txt or http://linuxreviews.org/news/2004-06-11_kernel_crash/krnl-1.c.txt with gcc and execute the resulting binary. >Fix: >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Jun 18 09:35:39 2004 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id D960416A4E9; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:35:39 +0000 (GMT) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [216.136.204.21]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BA25043D55; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:35:39 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from bms@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (bms@localhost [127.0.0.1]) i5I9YuTK078307; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:34:56 GMT (envelope-from bms@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from bms@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.12.11/8.12.11/Submit) id i5I9YuYo078303; Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:34:56 GMT (envelope-from bms) Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:34:56 GMT From: Bruce M Simpson Message-Id: <200406180934.i5I9YuYo078303@freefall.freebsd.org> To: fok@gmx.net, bms@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org, bms@FreeBSD.org Subject: Re: i386/68058: Latest Linux 2.4/2.6 kernel crash also crashes some FreeBSD 5.2 systems X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 09:35:40 -0000 Synopsis: Latest Linux 2.4/2.6 kernel crash also crashes some FreeBSD 5.2 systems State-Changed-From-To: open->feedback State-Changed-By: bms State-Changed-When: Fri Jun 18 09:33:38 GMT 2004 State-Changed-Why: Believed fixed in src/sys/i386/isa/npx.c rev 1.151, can you test to confirm this bug is fixed? Introduce a new vendor id { BCOM_VENDORID, BCOM_DEVICEID_BCM5705K, "Broadcom BCM5705K Gigabit Ethernet" }, In my case for the ML 110 in if_bge.c And #define BCOM_DEVICEID_BCM5705K 0x1654 in if_bgereg.h Run a pciconf to get the correct chip rev/mem address being mapped to.
