You will soon be able to find it in /pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/ISO-IMAGES/6.0 on the various ftp mirror sites. MD5 (6.0-BETA5-EISA-bootonly.iso) = 71b32e9c03e972f53c5d1e879b9b3b65 I have boot tested it on a DS10 but I do not have any EISA equipped Alpha boxes so I am really curious if Bernd's (ticso) suggestion works for your machine model. I've also set up serial access accessible over IP if any alpha developers want to take a live poke at the box. -T -- "Statistics are the triumph of the quantitative method, and the quantitative method is the victory of sterility and death." -- Hillaire Belloc, _The Silence of the Sea_ From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 28 10:46:44 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: alpha@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 1616816A41F for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 10:46:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from srv1.cosmo-project.de (srv1.cosmo-project.de [213.83.6.106]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3829843D4C for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 10:46:42 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely5.cicely.de (cicely5.cicely.de [10.1.1.7]) (authenticated bits=0) by srv1.cosmo-project.de (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id j8SAkcBS088138 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA bits=168 verify=OK); Wed, 28 Sep 2005 12:46:40 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely12.cicely.de (cicely12.cicely.de [10.1.1.14]) by cicely5.cicely.de (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id j8SAkUeG065470 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Wed, 28 Sep 2005 12:46:31 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely12.cicely.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by cicely12.cicely.de (8.13.4/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j8SAkUFe061910; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 12:46:30 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: (from ticso@localhost) by cicely12.cicely.de (8.13.4/8.13.3/Submit) id j8SAkTAt061909; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 12:46:29 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso) Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 12:46:29 +0200 From: Bernd Walter To: Tillman Hodgson Message-ID: <20050928104628.GH54923@cicely12.cicely.de> References: <200509251834.j8PIYILp009593@repoman.freebsd.org> <20050926064449.GA19636@freebie.xs4all.nl> <20050927002307.GA74300@seekingfire.com> <20050927111328.GB54923@cicely12.cicely.de> <20050928024738.GA89409@seekingfire.com> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <20050928024738.GA89409@seekingfire.com> X-Operating-System: FreeBSD cicely12.cicely.de 5.4-STABLE alpha User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.9i X-Spam-Status: No, score=-5.9 required=3.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.0.4 X-Spam-Report: * -3.3 ALL_TRUSTED Did not pass through any untrusted hosts * -2.6 BAYES_00 BODY: Bayesian spam probability is 0 to 1% * [score: 0.0000] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.0.4 (2005-06-05) on cicely12.cicely.de Cc: alpha@freebsd.org, ticso@cicely.de Subject: Re: FreeBSD 6.0/alpha estbuild available with limited EISA probing X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: ticso@cicely.de List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 10:46:44 -0000 On Tue, Sep 27, 2005 at 08:47:38PM -0600, Tillman Hodgson wrote: > On Tue, Sep 27, 2005 at 01:13:29PM +0200, Bernd Walter wrote: > > On Mon, Sep 26, 2005 at 06:23:07PM -0600, Tillman Hodgson wrote: > > > On Mon, Sep 26, 2005 at 08:44:49AM +0200, Wilko Bulte wrote: > > > > Folks, > > > > > > > > Please try a testbuild based on BETA5 that is currently uploading > > > > to ftp-master. > > > > > > I just finished a test boot on it -- it panics in the same way as > > > before. The panic locks similar, but it is different. We even have a different panic vector 0x660 instead of 0x670. That really means that the EISA slot number did something good. What we see is a oanic that happens when probing the secondary PCI bus - we are over the EISA stuff at this point. The brigde seems to be onboard and according to SRM you have 3 chips behind it. I don't know how good we are with PCI-bridges on AS2100A. Please try to remove all PCI cards from that bus and see if it makes a difference. If it boots then try shuffling the cards. -- B.Walter BWCT http://www.bwct.de bernd@bwct.de info@bwct.de From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Sep 28 11:03:45 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: alpha@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 498A516A41F for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 11:03:45 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from srv1.cosmo-project.de (srv1.cosmo-project.de [213.83.6.106]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 719A943D48 for ; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 11:03:44 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely5.cicely.de (cicely5.cicely.de [10.1.1.7]) (authenticated bits=0) by srv1.cosmo-project.de (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id j8SB3cBS088585 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=EDH-RSA-DES-CBC3-SHA bits=168 verify=OK); Wed, 28 Sep 2005 13:03:40 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely12.cicely.de (cicely12.cicely.de [10.1.1.14]) by cicely5.cicely.de (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id j8SB39eG065560 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=NO); Wed, 28 Sep 2005 13:03:10 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: from cicely12.cicely.de (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by cicely12.cicely.de (8.13.4/8.13.3) with ESMTP id j8SB39Gu061987; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 13:03:09 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso@cicely12.cicely.de) Received: (from ticso@localhost) by cicely12.cicely.de (8.13.4/8.13.3/Submit) id j8SB38K1061986; Wed, 28 Sep 2005 13:03:08 +0200 (CEST) (envelope-from ticso) Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 13:03:08 +0200 From: Bernd Walter To: Poul-Henning Kamp Message-ID: <20050928110308.GK54923@cicely12.cicely.de> References: <20050926064449.GA19636@freebie.xs4all.nl> <82578.1127717942@critter.freebsd.dk> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: <82578.1127717942@critter.freebsd.dk> X-Operating-System: FreeBSD cicely12.cicely.de 5.4-STABLE alpha User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.9i X-Spam-Status: No, score=-5.9 required=3.0 tests=ALL_TRUSTED,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.0.4 X-Spam-Report: * -3.3 ALL_TRUSTED Did not pass through any untrusted hosts * -2.6 BAYES_00 BODY: Bayesian spam probability is 0 to 1% * [score: 0.0000] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.0.4 (2005-06-05) on cicely12.cicely.de Cc: alpha@freebsd.org Subject: Re: FreeBSD 6.0/alpha estbuild available with limited EISA probing X-BeenThere: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: ticso@cicely.de List-Id: Porting FreeBSD to the Alpha List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 28 Sep 2005 11:03:45 -0000 On Mon, Sep 26, 2005 at 08:59:02AM +0200, Poul-Henning Kamp wrote: > In message <20050926064449.GA19636@freebie.xs4all.nl>, Wilko Bulte writes: > > >Please try a testbuild based on BETA5 that is currently uploading > >to ftp-master. > > I tried -current/GENERIC and it still fails on my AlphaServer 1000A > 5/400, 400MHz: > > fxp0: Reserved 0x1000 bytes for rid 0x10 type 3 at 0x81300000 > fxp0: using memory space register mapping > fxp0: PCI IDs: 8086 1229 8086 000c 0008 > fxp0: Dynamic Standby mode is disabled > miibus0: on fxp0 > inphy0: on miibus0 > inphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto > fxp0: bpf attached > fxp0: Ethernet address: 00:d0:b7:49:e6:c9 > fxp0: interrupting at CIA irq 5 > fxp0: [MPSAFE] > > halted CPU 0 > > halt code = 7 > machine check while in PAL mode > PC = 18100 > >>> Can you please supply a boot -v. So this is likely a different problem than that on the AS2100A. IIRC the next should be ISA. Your have loaded an up to date device.hints file? Namely ata, atkbdc and fdc are the next. Your machine likely doesn't have an ata connector, but the PCI-EISA bridge may have one embedded that could confuse the ata driver. Vector 0x660 should be uncorrectable memory error. Normally this means faulty RAM producing multiple error bits, but in this case it likely is accessing non available PCI space during probing. Under normal conditions we should expect such machine checks when probing PCI config space and ignore them. Either a PCI device tells us about memory that is not configured or we do something wrong ignoring probing errors. -- B.Walter BWCT http://www.bwct.de bernd@bwct.de info@bwct.de From owner-freebsd-alpha@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Sep 30 12:43:08 2005 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A351016A41F for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 12:43:08 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from SRS0=esawwb=YA=alasir.com=walter@yourhostingaccount.com) Received: from mailout07.yourhostingaccount.com (outmail.yourhostingaccount.com [65.254.254.63]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 28B0143D48 for ; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 12:43:07 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from SRS0=esawwb=YA=alasir.com=walter@yourhostingaccount.com) Received: from scan18.yourhostingaccount.com ([10.1.1.246] helo=scan18.yourhostingaccount.com) by mailout07.yourhostingaccount.com with esmtp (Exim) id 1ELKEE-0000Ci-Hw for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:43:06 -0400 Received: from webmail05.yourhostingaccount.com ([10.1.1.202] ident=exim) by scan18.yourhostingaccount.com with spamscanlookuphost (Exim) id 1ELKEE-0002XA-El for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:43:06 -0400 Received: from webmail05.yourhostingaccount.com ([10.1.1.202] helo=webmail05.yourhostingaccount.com) by scan18.yourhostingaccount.com with esmtp (Exim) id 1ELKEE-0002Vo-6z for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:43:06 -0400 Received: from nobody by webmail05.yourhostingaccount.com with local (Exim) id 1ELKE8-0004RA-1b for freebsd-alpha@freebsd.org; Fri, 30 Sep 2005 08:43:00 -0400 Mime-Version: 1.0 From: "Paul V. In fact, the code makes no difference between Alcor 2 and Alcor (21171), which has no BWX support at all. The patch attached fixes this behaviour. Before and after the patch. Alas, I find that managers grow restless when > I knock down the servers (much less steal their video cards). OK - 2M is not much. That an ISA ET4000 always worked for me is not much of help, I think. Maybe a G450 or S3 will work, but can't say for shure. I would say try out what you have and if you have to buy a card then try getting a used Millenium with 4 or 8M. > If I put in an Oxygen I can run VMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But who wants this if one can run FreeBSD :) The PC164 is very well supported, the only drawback is the interrupt PAL, which has problems masking interrupts, therefor we currently raise the CPU IPL as a workaround. As a result you'll see additional interrupt latency on higher interrupt load. Unfortunately both of my PC164 are production machines and I can't analyse the PAL. -- B.Walter BWCT http://www.bwct.de bernd@bwct.de info@bwct.de
