I use FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE-p5 with current ports. No metter what locale I've set, when I run 'xterm -lc &' I see following message in the new xterm window: Warning: could not change ownership of tty -- pty is insecure! This is the same problem described in the ports/51632 PR about XFree86 version of luit(1). Could you please fix it in the Xorg 6.8.1 port too? Thanks __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I didn't see that message from xorg-clients port because instead of building each part of the Xorg ports collection separately I builded and installed the X.Org distribution metaport wich have xorg-clients as a dependecy. If WITH_SETUID_LUIT could be set during 'make config' I was never missed this configuration option. What is this new framework and where > can I read more about it? It's available as an experimental bsd.port.mk replacement in devel/portmk port. As far as I remember about OPTIONS related problems - they're mostly with cases when BATCH or PACKAGE_BUILDING is defined (and with what options would port build in that case), one another thing is that they tend to be annoying to people that don't want to fiddle with dialogs every now and then when they put X11 metaport to compile over night and expect to wake up to a shiny new X (and don't want to set BATCH or PACKAGE_BUILDING for this or that reason). That's actually the main problem I have with OPTIONS, it could very well be that there exists some NO_OPTIONS knob that I've missed. Which brings me to a confession - I haven't really researched enough to see if this would really be a problem or if/how it could be solved. I was kinda waiting for OPTIONSng to come... This is unfortunate. Also, the main force behind pushing OPTIONSng (eik) seems to have gone missing-in-action at the moment, which complicates things. mcl From owner-freebsd-x11@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Jan 24 02:46:57 2005 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 572A816A4CE for ; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 02:46:57 +0000 (GMT) Received: from niobe.ijs.si (mail.ijs.si [193.2.4.66]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5D9CE43D2D for ; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 02:46:56 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from dejan.lesjak@ijs.si) Received: from localhost (localhost.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) by niobe.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 944681DD6B9; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 03:46:55 +0100 (CET) Received: from niobe.ijs.si ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (niobe.ijs.si [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 82228-17; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 03:46:53 +0100 (CET) Received: from metatron.ijs.si (metatron.ijs.si [193.2.4.152]) by niobe.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 289161DD6B5; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 03:46:52 +0100 (CET) Received: from idefix.ijs.si (idefix.ijs.si [193.2.4.33]) (using TLSv1 with cipher RC4-MD5 (128/128 bits)) (No client certificate requested) by metatron.ijs.si (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3F8801C00716; Mon, 24 Jan 2005 03:46:52 +0100 (CET) From: Dejan Lesjak To: Mark Linimon Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2005 03:46:51 +0100 User-Agent: KMail/1.7.2 References: In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: Multipart/Mixed; boundary="Boundary-00=_bGG9BbVsYrd+uih" Message-Id: <200501240346.51654.dejan.lesjak@ijs.si> X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at ijs.si X-Content-Filtered-By: Mailman/MimeDel 2.1.1 cc: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org cc: Rostislav Krasny Subject: Re: same to the ports/51632 PR but in Xorg 6.8.1 X-BeenThere: freebsd-x11@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.1 Precedence: list List-Id: X11 on FreeBSD -- maintaining and support List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2005 02:46:57 -0000 --Boundary-00=_bGG9BbVsYrd+uih Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline On Monday 24 of January 2005 01:27, Mark Linimon wrote: > On Mon, 24 Jan 2005, Dejan Lesjak wrote: > > As far as I remember about OPTIONS related problems - they're mostly > > with cases when BATCH or PACKAGE_BUILDING is defined (and with what > > options would port build in that case) > > There's a number of (overlapping?) Mhm, and besides all this there didn't appear to be pressing need to convert X11 ports to OPTIONS. This particular one, however does perhaps deserve some special attention :) A quick take on a patch to enable options in xorg-clients: http://www.ijs.si/~lesi/xorg-clients_OPTIONS.diff (it should also be attached, but mailman doesn't seem to like me sometimes or I have utterly misconfigured my MUA). It does take default in PACKAGE_BUILDING case (a workaround for that should probably go away with ports/75727), I haven't yet checked what would happen in 'make release' though. Another thing I wonder is how to properly explain what SETUID_LUIT option actually does... BTW I think the message in the /usr/ports/x11/xorg-clients/Makefile and in the /usr/ports/x11/XFree86-4-clients/Makefile about WITH_SETUID_LUIT should be corrected, because WITH_SETUID_LUIT=yes must be set also during 'make install' and 'make reinstall'. Otherwise luit will be installed without setuid. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - now with 250MB free storage. The box has a RADEON X600 graphic card. The generic radeon driver used to work properly until I portupgraded xorg* two or three days ago. Since then X freezes the machine immediately after 'startx' ( X fires up and then freezes the hole box completely). I portupgraded again xorg* last night but the same problem remains. I read in bugreports at bugzilla.org that people used to have similiar problems with the radeon driver. But, if I change the 'radeon' driver entry in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to the generic 'vesa' then X works propely but just at a fixed Horizontal frequency of 76Hz which is slightly suboptimal. I can live with this solution but here is my (maybe stupid) question: Could it be harmful to the graphic chip, when using an incorrect driver ? Many thnakns for any reply Carlo. Debugging that particular function is outside the scope of this email. Hoping for clues, I set LIBGL_DEBUG to verbose before running mupen64, and got the following: %setenv LIBGL_DEBUG verbose %mupen64 [glN64]: (II) Initializing SDL video subsystem... [glN64]: (II) Getting video info... [glN64]: (II) Setting video mode 640x480... libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 4.0.1 r200 (screen 0) libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/r200_dri.so libGL error: dlopen /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/r200_dri.so failed (/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/r200_dri.so: Undefined symbol "_glapi_Dispatch") libGL error: unable to find driver: r200_dri.so This wasn't exactly what I was expecting to learn from LIBGL_DEBUG, but it was interesting none the less. Running glxgears with LIBGL_DEBUG still set as verbose gave me: %glxgears libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 4.0.1 r200 (screen 0) libGL: OpenDriver: trying /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/r200_dri.so drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:01:00.0 drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0 drmOpenDevice: open result is 4, (OK) drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 4 drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci:0000:01:00.0 Indicating no such problem loading the r200 DRI module. Moreover, I checked libGL.so for traces of the function: %strings /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so|grep Dispatch _glapi_RealDispatch _glapi_DispatchTSD _glapi_Dispatch _gl_DispatchTSD _glapi_RealDispatch _glapi_DispatchTSD !DispatchOverride _glapi_Dispatch is certainly there. I supposed I may have misunderstood mupen64's move to a native FreeBSD format, so I double checked the branding on the mupen ELF. Sure enough, it's a FreeBSD ELF. %elfdump -e /usr/local/libexec/mupen64|grep e_ident e_ident: ELFCLASS32 ELFDATA2LSB ELFOSABI_FREEBSD So mupen64 won't be trying to load Linux DRI modules---which could have explained the success of glxgears and the failure of mupen64. As a final note, direct rendering is enabled and working correctly as the glxgears output implies. Any ideas on why mupen64's attempt to load r200_dri.so fails to load the driver? Hardware is Sony PCV-L640, which is packaged from the manufacturer with an LCD display, Sony part number PCVA-15XTAP2. The maker's spec on the display calls out native resolution of 1024x768, and vidcontrol seems to confirm this. Additionally, DDC seems to find the display and read a reasonable set of parms. This notwithstanding, xorg server initialization fails. Log files, config files, and supporting data below. Any ideas concerning some means of torturing this config into working will be welcome. Why does it claim to have no matching device section for "instance (BusID PCI:0:13:0)" ?? I have this in my XF86Config: # each head of the G400 Section "Device" Identifier "matrox-0" Driver "mga" VideoRam 32768 BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 0 EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "matrox-1" Driver "mga" VideoRam 32768 BusID "PCI:1:0:0" Screen 1 EndSection # the matrox mystique Section "Device" Identifier "matrox-2" Driver "mga" VideoRam 4096 BusID "PCI:0:13:0" Screen 2 EndSection I am puzzled. Anybody with a similar setup, or trihead experience, please let me know, Id' really like to get this mystique running along the g400. I can provide XF86Config and log files, I did not want to post all that.
