I am able to get FreeBSD 6.1-Release to recognize and load my Linksys WPC54G V3 using ndsigen. The interface ndis0 comes up and if I issue a 'ifconfig ndis0 scan' it will see my Linksys router however It doesn't associate to it. I tried to send this on Oct 20th but it never came through on the mobile list, so I am sending to both lists. I can set the IP and the netmask but it will not set the ssid or channel properly, which I believe is at the root of my problem. I enabled several debuging options in /boot/loader.conf and then rebooted using verbose logging. Here is my dmesg output: Copyright (c) 1992-2006 The FreeBSD Project. This means you can pretty much > buy anything in a cardbus/pci form factor. Thanks, but I'm still a little confused, sorry. I supppose ath(4) and ath_hal(4) are a bit out of date then, as they both specify just those 3 chipsets - at least at 5.5-S Aug 1st and 6.1-R. The link in both to http://customerproducts.atheros.com/customerproducts now redirects to somewhere not quite so useful (http://atheros.com/RD/) and fwiw, the Orinoco 8470WD, which looks like a card I can use with an external connector is b/g, not a/b/g as per the mans - but then I guess you can't do 802.11a and b/g through a single antenna connection anyway. So thanks again .. I'll dig a little deeper from my newbie start point. Symptom is that it locks up (hard; hit the Big Red Button) after doing detect of my network connection (which fails because it is not connected). I've installed FreeBSD 6.1 (minimal installation, default kernel) - everything was OK: I upgraded ports, compiled xorg, fluxbox, firefox, some more programs... Sometimes uptime was more than 14 hours - no problems. But yesterday when I read mails fan was stopping (generally it works very loudly). Nice silence but after some minutes everything was killed, I can read that disk temperature is too hot and system would be shoutdown imidiatelly. ( of course it was true: laptop was very hot). As I understand it is problem with ACPI ? Can I solve it in any way or I must give up FreeBSD? Could you give me any advice? I'm FreeBSD noob and I don't know what information could be usefull (any logs? - after described situation I haven't used that system). I am using linux on the same laptop - without problems. thanks, Aleksandra Brzezinska From owner-freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.ORG Sat Nov 11 21:04:36 2006 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.FreeBSD.org (mx1.freebsd.org [216.136.204.125]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2AFB816A415 for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from list@understudy.net) Received: from smtp1.34sp.com (smtp1.34sp.com [212.187.158.31]) by mx1.FreeBSD.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 757B343D4C for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:35 +0000 (GMT) (envelope-from list@understudy.net) Received: from localhost (localhost.34sp.com [127.0.0.1]) by smtp1.34sp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 049912E5F5 for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:34 +0000 (GMT) Received: from smtp1.34sp.com ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (smtp.34sp.com [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 75073-09 for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:31 +0000 (GMT) Received: from [10.0.0.150] (adsl-065-012-216-193.sip.bct.bellsouth.net [65.12.216.193]) by smtp1.34sp.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id A34182E5F6 for ; Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:31 +0000 (GMT) Message-ID: <45563ADD.6030402@understudy.net> Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 16:04:29 -0500 From: Understudy User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20061102 X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: freebsd-mobile@FreeBSD.org Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: by Clam Anti Virus Cc: Subject: em0 t41 X-BeenThere: freebsd-mobile@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Mobile computing with FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 21:04:36 -0000 Hi all , I am sure this has been discussed to some extent but I will need to see what I can do to drag up the past.
