Is there a bluetooth device and software that is able to track my movement (cellphone) within a room in real time, for example if my cellphones bluetooth is switched on and i am walking around a room can the bluetooth device on my computer detect that i am in a different position as i walk around (can it measure the distance of where i am from the computer and can it handle multiple cellphones) Thank you for reading Regards Phathwa Senene From owner-freebsd-bluetooth@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Apr 17 11:48:58 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 898B116A417 for ; Tue, 17 Apr 2007 11:48:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from anderson@freebsd.org) Received: from mh1.centtech.com (moat3.centtech.com [64.129.166.50]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 56A1213C4C9 for ; Tue, 17 Apr 2007 11:48:58 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from anderson@freebsd.org) Received: from [10.177.171.220] (neutrino.centtech.com [10.177.171.220]) by mh1.centtech.com (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id l3HBmv2A057776; Tue, 17 Apr 2007 06:48:57 -0500 (CDT) (envelope-from anderson@freebsd.org) Message-ID: <4624B429.6050702@freebsd.org> Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2007 06:48:57 -0500 From: Eric Anderson User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 (X11/20070320) MIME-Version: 1.0 To: phathwa senene References: <4624A0A6.7050202@yahoo.com> In-Reply-To: <4624A0A6.7050202@yahoo.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Virus-Scanned: ClamAV 0.88.4/3109/Mon Apr 16 22:59:17 2007 on mh1.centtech.com X-Virus-Status: Clean X-Spam-Status: No, score=-2.6 required=8.0 tests=AWL,BAYES_00 autolearn=ham version=3.1.6 X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.6 (2006-10-03) on mh1.centtech.com Cc: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Bluetooth questions X-BeenThere: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Using Bluetooth in FreeBSD environments List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2007 11:48:58 -0000 On 04/17/07 05:25, phathwa senene wrote: > Hello, my name is Phathwa and i live in South Africa > > I hope that you could answer these questions for me. > > Is there a bluetooth device and software that is able to track my > movement (cellphone) within a room in real time, for example if my > cellphones bluetooth is switched on and i am walking around a room can > the bluetooth device on my computer detect that i am in a different > position as i walk around (can it measure the distance of where i am > from the computer and can it handle multiple cellphones) I don't know of a way to do that accurately, since you can't rely on the timing of the signal due to walls, etc. You could tell of a bluetooth device is within range or not pretty easily. Maybe it's possible by triangulating, but still seems like it would be very inaccurate. Maybe bluetooth isn't the right way to tackle it, and instead there's a different technology that you could use (RFID?). It doesn't use triangulation of timing like GPS, it works on signal strengths and so is a bit approximate. As a matter of fact there's only a procedure in the tomtom to connect to a cellular gprs phone via BT. You do not have any other option to control the BT device of your tomtom. Nopin is required. In other words by means of a terminal like minicom and a /dev/somethingIdontknow I would read the flow of data position while read by the gps device. In a nutshell to capture them. The error I get is: ... could not set alternative configuration 0 for interface 1 .. I see this error message in the ng_ubt source code, which is consistent with the behavior. If I don't compile ng_bluetooth into the kernel, it works a little better in that I can manually kldload ng_ubt, etc. to get bluetooth to come up. However, *I still have to unplug and plug back in the dongle* before doing this. Is there a known issue related to this? My goal is to run bluetooth on an appliance environment so I really want to get it to work without having to physically touch it. I will continue to debug, but after trying a number of things so far, I want to make sure I am not beating my head against the wall for a known issue. I see this on FreeBSD 6.1 and 6.2 versions. Thank you! there is nothing wrong here. the messages above are just warning messages. basically first one says that your cell phone sent MSC (modem status control) command after rfcomm channel was marked for 'closing' and the last one says DM (disconnect mode) was received ater we closed rfcomm channel. i have seen other bluetooth stacks do the same thing. so it not a problem. i will need to mark those messages as 'info' so they wont show up by default. thanks, max From owner-freebsd-bluetooth@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 20 17:46:07 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 4103816A402 for ; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 17:46:07 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from maksim.yevmenkin@gmail.com) Received: from ag-out-0708.google.com (ag-out-0708.google.com [72.14.246.240]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id F2EC113C45E for ; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 17:46:06 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from maksim.yevmenkin@gmail.com) Received: by ag-out-0708.google.com with SMTP id 31so2390718agc for ; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 10:46:06 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:cc:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=Avc8Cnocb0Yhg+X+tfM+rGkaP988ufgXoMWJxNWR9Xk4a1RgllceHdmNU+D3D2yCbBPjN31q3zOpHCsX06r/P06OhNbd+lQAw4wiHOxMM1Z9PsrldSKSvb/swDhMaTGmO1suwzs3hdKRNc6Zimj8ZNpGRVzA+/ZlaRaRSqelfuw= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:cc:in-reply-to:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition:references; b=ZL/LsOXNDErG0HjiMU/AOE8R9a5wAfnWG7v3hVTSDAD+//w6y71t6e7hn0gzrHtTz+7LFOMWqHaizVGW3NcLFahy4jTz5bs5YLitBn1gOz1+eTcTVgJlZRtlUQrEWajVyTHrbP/yA3ZqYIHAT2Kp6UA1SOI04SFXEybBrv6NGQk= Received: by 10.100.135.16 with SMTP id i16mr1837919and.1177091165406; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 10:46:05 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.100.111.18 with HTTP; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 10:46:05 -0700 (PDT) Message-ID: Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2007 10:46:05 -0700 From: "Maksim Yevmenkin" To: "Christopher McCarley" In-Reply-To: <341436.85215.qm@web32804.mail.mud.yahoo.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline References: <341436.85215.qm@web32804.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Cc: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Subject: Re: bluetooth errors on boot with dongle already attached X-BeenThere: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Using Bluetooth in FreeBSD environments List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2007 17:46:07 -0000 On 4/20/07, Christopher McCarley wrote: > I have not been successful getting bluetooth to work when the dongle is already plugged in before booting up. If I don't compile ng_bluetooth into the kernel, it works a little better in that I can manually kldload ng_ubt, etc. to get bluetooth to come up. However, *I still have to unplug and plug back in the dongle* before doing this. how about loading ng_ubt from the loader? i.e. add ng_ubt_load="YES" to your loader.conf and reboot. you do not really need to compile bluetooth stuff into the kernel as long as you load ng_ubt(4) early (i.e. from loader). > Is there a known issue related to this? My goal is to run bluetooth on an appliance environment so I really want to get it to work without having to physically touch it. I will continue to debug, but after trying a number of things so far, I want to make sure I am not beating my head against the wall for a known issue. I see this on FreeBSD 6.1 and 6.2 versions. like i said, i never seen it before. it could be some weird usb issue. thanks, max From owner-freebsd-bluetooth@FreeBSD.ORG Fri Apr 20 19:49:34 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7F03016A402 for ; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 19:49:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from chrismccarley@yahoo.com) Received: from web32814.mail.mud.yahoo.com (web32814.mail.mud.yahoo.com [68.142.206.44]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with SMTP id 48E0B13C459 for ; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 19:49:34 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from chrismccarley@yahoo.com) Received: (qmail 70028 invoked by uid 60001); 20 Apr 2007 19:49:33 -0000 DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=s1024; d=yahoo.com; h=X-YMail-OSG:Received:X-Mailer:Date:From:Subject:To:MIME-Version:Content-Type:Message-ID; b=bn2qJZbYvjq2V+OL29r+pJDvAmKNaqPcYcAcXxUqigqIKizEW9Z+xqwpdqOVqgP1bgdtg0xYwwbB68hzfRmDUOKaWf+Lbld9E9LOq/525mBaXlBGrPCNqQi2j4OVogIXof4c7BvynIjeKFhwjO0xm6H57h17LNOs71YWQkXEpG4=; X-YMail-OSG: vhBtqYEVM1nYk1pa2aaNQUDCKmcdirewH1GTu0DbgYQ1xshXGUX08_1A2VdkmGWkcG0fCbMf5esPQ7toUd39rOAi3SqrSDjmr9OhuyyL06BmpcWltWoZAbOvJQleug-- Received: from [209.191.106.126] by web32814.mail.mud.yahoo.com via HTTP; Fri, 20 Apr 2007 12:49:33 PDT X-Mailer: YahooMailRC/478 YahooMailWebService/0.7.41.10 Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2007 12:49:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Christopher McCarley To: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ascii Message-ID: <659439.69821.qm@web32814.mail.mud.yahoo.com> Subject: Re: bluetooth errors on boot with dongle already attached X-BeenThere: freebsd-bluetooth@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Using Bluetooth in FreeBSD environments List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2007 19:49:34 -0000 I tried the loader.conf thing at some point, but I will try it again more methodically.
