We tried to update the FreeBSD kernel from 6.2 Pre-Release to 6.2 Release (Stable) and our Dell PowerEdge 1750 multi-processor machines freeze on while detecting the second processor. In order to get the machines to boot, the second processor must be disabled in the BIOS. We had EXACTLY the same problem a few months ago when we updated to 6.2 Pre-Release. It was reported here and you kindly provided a patch extremely quickly. However, the same bug seems to have made its way into the current release. >How-To-Repeat: Simply update to the 6.2 Release (Stable) kernel on a Dell PowerEdge 1750 with SMP enabled and watch it freeze on boot while detecting the second processor. >Fix: Disable the second processor in the Dell BIOS. >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Mon Feb 19 11:08:19 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A00DC16A4D6 for ; Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 808B613C4B5 for ; Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:19 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (linimon@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id l1JB8JPq021347 for ; Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:19 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Received: (from linimon@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id l1JB8HaD021343 for freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org; Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:17 GMT (envelope-from owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org) Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:17 GMT Message-Id: <200702191108.l1JB8HaD021343@freefall.freebsd.org> X-Authentication-Warning: freefall.freebsd.org: linimon set sender to owner-bugmaster@FreeBSD.org using -f From: FreeBSD bugmaster To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Current problem reports assigned to you X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2007 11:08:19 -0000 Current FreeBSD problem reports Critical problems Serious problems S Tracker Resp. From: Thomas David Rivers To: bug-followup@freebsd.org, mfahey@gmail.com Cc: Subject: Re: i386/84397: [if_ndis] if_ndis + wmp54g = fatal trap 12 error Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 01:03:34 -0500 (EST) I'd like to add that I'm getting a suspiciously similar panic with this device on FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE. However, this is with a Linksys wmp64g version 4.1. That seems to use the RT61 driver from Ralink. My situation sounds very similar, I can bring the interface up and negotiate a DHCP session to obtain an IP address, etc... but - as soon as we try to move a packet through the interface, I get a panic. As soon as I can get kdbg to cooperate, I'll provide a kernel traceback. - Thanks - - Dave Rivers - -- rivers@dignus.com Work: (919) 676-0847 Get your mainframe programming tools at http://www.dignus.com From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Tue Feb 20 07:45:15 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 7DC4A173F33; Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [69.147.83.40]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5239213C46B; Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:14 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from remko@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (remko@localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4) with ESMTP id l1K7jE9g015992; Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:14 GMT (envelope-from remko@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from remko@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.13.4/8.13.4/Submit) id l1K7jDSC015988; Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:13 GMT (envelope-from remko) Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:13 GMT From: Remko Lodder Message-Id: <200702200745.l1K7jDSC015988@freefall.freebsd.org> To: serg_pochta@mail.ru, remko@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: i386/108666: Geometry X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2007 07:45:15 -0000 Synopsis: Geometry State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: remko State-Changed-When: Tue Feb 20 07:45:12 UTC 2007 State-Changed-Why: After discussing this a bit with Ruslan I will be closing this ticket. UTC 2007 root@trinity.local:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/TRINITY i386 >Description: DELL E521 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ BIOS 1.1.4 Update on response to: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=105196&cat= Installation is smooth, no problems, no quirks needed. No sound, I tried the snd_hda driver from: http://people.freebsd.org/~ariff/lowlatency/ I have wrongly submitted a PR to Stable on that. It is closed but one may browse it for information purpose: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=109132 DVD-RW works like a charm with growisofs (/dev/cd1) for DVDs and burncd (/dev/acd1) for CDs. But, for the time being, one needs to add /etc/rc.local in order to make them available: ++++++++++ atacontrol detach ata3 sleep 2 atacontrol attach ata3 sleep 1 atacontrol detach ata4 sleep 2 atacontrol attach ata4 ++++++++++ Network card runs well, I have been streaming media and transfering data without a single complain. True that I need to change my HUB in order to test the Gigabit thing... Video, well, nVidia driver is giving me (under sort of heavy load): % glxgears 10540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2106.152 FPS 10540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2105.522 FPS 10540 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2104.844 FPS 10441 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2086.962 FPS 14740 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2947.058 FPS 18307 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3660.819 FPS 18480 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3695.081 FPS 18367 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3670.724 FPS 18447 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3688.362 FPS No bad. I have not tested the card reader yet. This machine also works with 6.2-RELEASE AMD64. Installation equally smooth. But no nVidia driver and some ports related to linux don't either. Also, some commercial tools I need (require Linux 32 bits emulation) won't work. So I stay on i386, thus far. ++++++++++++++DMESG+++++++++++++++ Copyright (c) 1992-2007 The FreeBSD Project. When this came up, there is nothing can be done. As the keybroad doesn't take anything. However if taken option 3 or 6, you would get ? and fstype:disk. I have tried all the combinations but non give me any wiser solution. I have tried 4 disks, all on 5 different machines but all came up with the same error. After numerouos tries. I managed to get a 'improved' copy of install on one of the disk. However the cvs folder was missing hence I cannot do the port. So I re-install from beginning again. Ever since, I have not managed to get it to work at all. All come up with MountRoot. Kismet seems to work if channel hopping is turned off. Kismet also works if the channel list consists of only one channel Computers: Dell Latitude LS, Toshiba 2595XDVD Ubuntu 5.10 with patches does channel hop with the Toshiba as well as an HP 5420 The usual wifi networking functions seem to work normally with this card.
