I have configured PPPoE server with FreeRadius on my FreeBSD 6.2 machine and client side i am using RASPPPOE on windows machine. Its working fine but a issue has been occurred. Some time if my client shutdown there PC without properly disconnecting pppoe session then my PPPOE server didn't close the session. --------------------------------------------- tun1: flags=8051 mtu 1492 inet 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.196 netmask 0xffffffff Opened by PID 1024 tun2: flags=8051 mtu 1492 inet 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.227 netmask 0xffffffff Opened by PID 1100 tun3: flags=8051 mtu 1492 inet 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.27 netmask 0xffffffff Opened by PID 1180 tun4: flags=8051 mtu 1492 inet 192.168.1.1 --> 192.168.1.59 netmask 0xffffffff Opened by PID 1204 -------------------------------------------- Then i manually killed the PID of (tun1, tun2, tun3 , tun4) because if my any client trying connect my PPPOE server they will get tun5 with new IP. so previous 4 session will be there until i manually kill that. For small applications it works great, the issues you are seeing can be solved by setting time out on sessions, eg LQR and LQRPERIOD. When i was playing with FreeBSD i found it was great for a few users but when it was under a higher load that it was not to performing the way i wanted, i had a lot of old sessions hanging around they just wouldn't clean up. I still have the configs for what i used: set timeout 86400 (This is total time online so you don't really want to use this because it may disconnect users who still want to be online, although i guess it could be used to clean up sessions that are stale just don't have a session lasting more then a few hours? and a client will have to reconnect.) Here are the settings i recommend you add to your ppp.conf: enable echo enable lqr echo set lqrperiod 30 There is a small white paper written about PPPoEd/FreeBSD i did some poking about to try and find it for you. Sorry i could not find it, it goes into details about the lqr, bottom line if i remember correctly: PPPoEd sends LQR -> Client gets LQR PPPoEd gets LQR <- Client Replys if the lqr gets dropped somewhere along the line if so many are missing with in 30 sec it will close the session. I tried to find the white paper for you RE: PPPoEd and FreeBSD but i couldn't, try poking about on google. if you want to know more about lqr and time out find this white paper. i hope this information helps, you depending on your total users you may want to look towards a different solution >I have configured PPPoE server with FreeRadius on my FreeBSD 6.2 machine > and client side i am using RASPPPOE on windows machine. Its working >fine but a issue has been occurred. > >Some time if my client shutdown there PC without properly disconnecting >pppoe session then my PPPOE server didn't close the session. What I'm trying to do is limit each IP or block of IPs to predefined bandwidth. I'm not doing traffic shaping, just wanting to prevent servers from hogging all the bandwidth. My setup is as follow: LAN {test server} -> xl1 {FreeBSD} xl0 -> router -> net xl0 and xl1 are functioning as a bridge. kernel has pf and altq compiled. pf.conf: ext_if = "xl0" int_if = "xl1" pc = "any" set loginterface $ext_if # to net altq on $ext_if cbq bandwidth 100Mb queue { std_ext, test_ext } queue std_ext bandwidth 3Mb qlimit 1000 priority 5 cbq(default red ecn) queue test_ext bandwidth 2Mb priority 1 cbq(red ecn) pass out on $ext_if from $pc to any keep state queue test_ext --- The problem I'm having is that all outbound traffic from "test server" always shows around 3Mb instead of 2Mb per queue test_ext ruleset. What am I missing? I see the Adaptec RAID controllers (both SATA and SAS) are supported by the aac driver but looking thru the FreeBSD mail archives I see no comparison information with other brands such as 3ware. Ths machine will run FreeBSD 7 and use ZFS (the server will not go live until 2008 so I hope ZFS may be production quality in time). Any suggestions? Boads to buy definitively or to avoid at all? Boads to buy definitively or to avoid at all? > > Thanks in advance! I am partial to HP hardware, it is what we use at work and I haven't really looked at other controllers lately. The Pxxx SmartArray controllers I have used so far (P400i, P600, P800) with 10K 2.5" and 15k 2.5" drives have left so far a good impression on me. And 6.2-Rel cciss driver does support them. I might take a server tomorrow and finally do some more testing under FreeBSD (we unfortunatly use mostly linux) including speed as I got one server right now with a P400i internal attached to 4x72GB 10k 2.5" and a P800 with 25x72GB 15K 2.5" external. -- Regards, Ulf. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Ulf Zimmermann, 1525 Pacific Ave., Alameda, CA-94501, #: 510-865-0204 You can find my resume at: http://www.Alameda.net/~ulf/resume.html From owner-freebsd-isp@FreeBSD.ORG Sat May 19 12:40:38 2007 Return-Path: X-Original-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Delivered-To: freebsd-isp@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [69.147.83.52]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 183FE16A401 for ; Sat, 19 May 2007 12:40:38 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vesku79@gmail.com) Received: from ug-out-1314.google.com (ug-out-1314.google.com [66.249.92.174]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id A81AD13C447 for ; Sat, 19 May 2007 12:40:37 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from vesku79@gmail.com) Received: by ug-out-1314.google.com with SMTP id 71so570842ugh for ; Sat, 19 May 2007 05:40:36 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=domainkey-signature:received:received:message-id:date:from:user-agent:mime-version:to:subject:references:in-reply-to:content-type:content-transfer-encoding; b=kcCzQ7KhpBjRxaTc1pvgl2K1BLqa7c7cGaxYs+VBdRCUwW4YRrD8ssnEoK0puUmixfc7vy0FwDd7RsMUjDxZzZ15wU4DUUqtq9Mt372KuOaKiUiA7InjO/mGyUQQXqmHpn1yLmG1iUMUauKaGUuPWpK88jRf96KQyMPUOC+R4x0= DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; c=nofws; d=gmail.com; s=beta; h=received:message-id:date:from:user-agent:mime-version:to:subject:references:in-reply-to:content-type:content-transfer-encoding; b=D5MUJ7O2TJcYi8nzA4fsay7tgkdm3MEsM3Og4nBkMwaOy2wNQ3VGwlH7F51jSaJF2XfSj3Ya2hUcNpXIv3RAYsv/PLJu0/xOmuSk7Zse234QqYxrSbhoWjsHh5dOX3/S7WeglNQ5JGOeExK/9y0ZNyZdUoZyaBVAHA0GATVZsgs= Received: by 10.66.254.2 with SMTP id b2mr1831441ugi.1179576813958; Sat, 19 May 2007 05:13:33 -0700 (PDT) Received: from ?192.168.1.3? I have good experience with Dell, IBM and HP. If you need a separate controller 3ware is a good option. Personally I don't like Adaptec, but they should work too. I don't know about other brands since they are harder to get over here. VA, Finland
