Yes, this is exactly the same problem: if you try to watch a video stream with VLC, and ffmpeg is not usable, you get a message like: main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `xxx'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format. xxx being the requested module. Regards, -- Th. Thomas. I won't run until there is only one of me :) Installed versions: /usr/local/bin/tovid /usr/X11R6/bin/tovid Exiting... [tap@ping ~]$ I'm guessing this is fallout from the xorg modular change, where /usr/X11R6 is a symlink to /usr/local. The function doing the checking is in tovid-init, but I haven't yet worked out how to fix it up for dealing with this case. For now, I've removed the check altogether. I hinted gpio1, which gives me sound from both speakers and headphones. Thanks! There's still a few issues however: - Plugging in the headphones does not mute the speakers. - There's a speaker setting in mixer, but it doesn't work. - More problematic, the sound sounds like it's from a tape recorder with low battery: it speeds up and slows down, seemingly randomly, with a period of seconds. Makes for bad-sounding music playback at least. This is a laptop, so I suspected powerd, but even disabling powerd didn't seem to help. Is there a buffering setting I should be looking at changing? you maintain which are currently marked broken X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2007 00:04:58 -0000 Dear FreeBSD port maintainer: As part of an ongoing effort to reduce the number of problems in the FreeBSD ports system, we are attempting to notify maintainers of ports that are marked as "broken" in their Makefiles. In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc3.4, which is much stricter about such things as function declarations, literal strings constants that continue over several physical lines, and forcing the deprecation of antique header files such as varargs.h (we should now be using stdargs.h). The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. If you need help in one or more build environments that you do not have access to, please ask for help on the freebsd-ports mailing list. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 4.x/5.x/6.x with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. I do also have semi-random sound clicking with either approach and doing something like holding pagedown in firefox on a very long page, but this is probably unrelated. The core issue is that it appears cpu freq changing is interfering poorly with hda. Is this an insurmountable issue? How might we go about fixing it? (Yes, I'm willing to lend a hand). Disapprove, because it causes more problems rather than solution. I had to ask marcus for his opinion, because I don't really trust something like this. The -jN is well known for cause problems on some systems and it requires to do a lot of tests on different arch, 4BSD and ULE schedulers on both -STABLE and -CURRENT on HTT, multi-core, and multi-CPU (physical CPU) systems. marcus has a problem with graphics/jasper until he removed this same line to solve his problem on his dual-core amd64 box. Khmm, the only problems I'm aware off are poorly-written Makefiles -- and=20 jasper's was Ok. Are you alluding to a bug in a scheduler? Actually, a better change is to amend the ALL_TARGET instead of MAKE_ARGS: ALL_TARGET=3D -j`${SYSCTL} -n hw.ncpu` This allows the port to _build_ faster, but still _install_ serially.=20 Install-targets create directories and that does not parallelize well in ma= ny=20 autotools-created Makefiles. Maybe, that was Marcus' problem? -mi From owner-freebsd-multimedia@FreeBSD.ORG Thu Aug 16 23:45:32 2007 Return-Path: Delivered-To: multimedia@freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id BB03316A420; Thu, 16 Aug 2007 23:45:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from root@paulbeard.org) Received: from www.paulbeard.org (dsl001-134-183.sea1.dsl.speakeasy.net [72.1.134.183]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 9244913C467; Thu, 16 Aug 2007 23:45:32 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from root@paulbeard.org) Received: by www.paulbeard.org (Postfix, from userid 0) id 87DF039B0D; Fri, 3 Aug 2007 20:59:34 -0700 (PDT) To: FreeBSD-gnats-submit@freebsd.org From: paulbeard@gmail.com X-send-pr-version: 3.113 X-GNATS-Notify: Message-Id: <20070816232541.87DF039B0D@www.paulbeard.org> Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2007 20:59:34 -0700 (PDT) Cc: multimedia@freebsd.org Subject: distfile for gstreamer is missing X-BeenThere: freebsd-multimedia@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: paulbeard@gmail.com List-Id: Multimedia discussions List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Thu, 16 Aug 2007 23:45:32 -0000 >Submitter-Id: current-users >Originator: paul beard >Organization: >Confidential: no >Synopsis: distfile for gstreamer is missing >Severity: serious >Priority: low >Category: ports >Class: sw-bug >Release: FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p6 i386 >Environment: System: FreeBSD shuttle.paulbeard.org 6.2-RELEASE-p6 FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p6 #0: Fri Jul 20 11:00:47 PDT 2007 root@shuttle.paulbeard.org:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SHUTTLE i386 distfile for 0.10.14 can't be located. can the port be stepped back to 0.10.13 or the distfile found? This is AMR? It would be nice to have it in mpeg4ip as well. A certain option in the ffmpeg configure on Linux and some manual download of the 3GP stuff that has to be added to the source files, not so easy to port. IMHO they are H.263/AMR and can be displayed with the Linux-Realplayer very well. See also http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs106/youtube.mxu for a video/vnd.mpegurl playlist, m3u is hardcoded in VLC, get Opera, and http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs106/youtube.ram ;-) H.
