In many cases these ports are failing to compile on some subset of the FreeBSD build environments. The most common problem is that recent versions of -CURRENT include gcc4.2, which is much stricter than older versions. The next most common problem is that compiles succeed on the i386 architecture (e.g. the common Intel PC), but fail on one or more of the other architectures due to assumptions about things such as size of various types, byte-alignment issues, and so forth. In occasional cases we see that the same port may have different errors in different build environments. The script that runs on the build cluster uses heuristics to try to 'guess' the error type to help you isolate problems, but it is only a rough guide. One more note: on occasion, there are transient build errors seen on the build farm. Unfortunately, there is not yet any way for this algorithm to tell the difference (humans are much, much better at this kind of thing.) The errors are listed below. In the case where the same problem exists on more than one build environment, the URL points to the latest errorlog for that type. (By 'build environment' here we mean 'combination of 5.x/6.x/-current with target architecture'.) (Note: the dates are included to help you to gauge whether or not the error still applies to the latest version. The program that generates this report is not yet able to determine this automatically.) portname: www/flock broken because: Does not compile with GCC 4.2 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=flock portname: x11-themes/gnome-industrial-theme broken because: gnome-themes-extras no longer has industrial engine build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-themes&portname=gnome-industrial-theme If these errors are ones that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. Every effort has been made to make sure that these error reports really do correspond to a port that you maintain. However, due to the fact that this is an automated process, it may indeed generate false matches. If one of these errors fits that description, please forward this email to the author of this software, Mark Linimon , so that he can attempt to fix the problem in the future. Often, this is due to a better alternative having become available and/or the cessation of development on the existing port. In some cases, ports are marked for removal because they fail to build and install correctly from their sources, or otherwise fail in operation. The ports, and the reason and date that they have been scheduled for removal, are listed below. If no one has stepped forward before that time to propose a way to fix the problems (such as via a PR), the ports will be deleted. portname: www/firefox15 description: Web browser based on the browser portion of Mozilla maintainer: gnome@FreeBSD.org status: FORBIDDEN deprecated because: Obsolete version, use Firefox 2.0 or greater instead expiration date: 2008-04-30 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=www&portname=firefox15 portname: x11-themes/gnome-industrial-theme description: Slick GNOME2 theme from Ximian maintainer: gnome@FreeBSD.org status: BROKEN deprecated because: yes expiration date: 2007-11-22 build errors: none. overview: http://portsmon.FreeBSD.org/portoverview.py?category=x11-themes&portname=gnome-industrial-theme If this problem is one that you are already aware of, please accept our apologies and ignore this message. In the past I've had to compile HAL with a patch to disable the noexec flag from being used when mounting CD's. The lines in question are below: tools/hal-storage-mount.c #ifdef __FreeBSD__ #define MOUNT "/sbin/mount" -#define MOUNT_OPTIONS "noexec, nosuid" +#define MOUNT_OPTIONS "nosuid" #define MOUNT_TYPE_OPT "-t" This has been rather of a pain, since I don't want to keep making a custom patch to remove this flag. Is there some other easy way to remove the noexec flag from being used in CD mounting? I've tried by putting this in my /usr/local/etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi file: false However, it doesn't seem to make a difference :( Any other hints? I fixed it by cd /usr/ports/graphics/libgphoto2/ && make deinstall && make clean then Adobe Photoshop starts perfectly (portupgrade -ar breaks adobe again) now my real problem is, when I hold down my left ALT key and move my mouse to use some of adobe Photoshop tools gnome thinks I want to move my window. how do I get gnome to ignore the left alt key + a mouse move? The Wine has optional to depend on libgphoto2 if you want to. You should talk with Wine maintainer to see if he can figure what's up with Wine vs libgphoto2. Try to add --without-gphoto in wine/Makefile's CONFIGURE_ARGS. It might help and be sure to let Wine maintainer knows about it. > now my real problem is, when I hold down my left ALT key and move my > mouse to use some of adobe Photoshop tools > gnome thinks I want to move my window. how do I get gnome to ignore > the left alt key + a mouse move? At first, I looked at System -> Preferences -> Keyboard Shortcuts and it's not there. Decided to look around a bit more and found it. It's in System -> Preferences -> Windows and you should see an option called 'Movement Key' to select Control, Alt or Super. You can try to select either Control or Super (Windows logo) to see if it helps. Or am I stuck patching HAL itself? For now, you'll have to patch hal. It's up to the application requesting the FS mount to specify the mount options. However, the hardcoded mount options cannot be overridden. I'm willing to entertain the idea of dropping noexec as Linux does, but I'm not sure what the overall security impact of that change might be. Is there any way we can drop this flag by default? It messes with our PBI system, which are executables. Currently users have to copy a PBI file from CD or USB to their desktop before installing, when they should really be able to just double-click and have it go. I don't believe their will be any security issues, in past versions of HAL I've been taking this flag out, and we've not seen any problems with doing so. I don't see any security issue either with PolicyKit. Also, whomever have access to mount stuff and can edit fdi file are already trushed. I only see an issue with multi-users, but it still doesn't make any sense anyway when admin wants it to be without noexec that should know there is no problem. It won't change the default in our ports unless someone add fdi file(s). Althought, only issue is in PC-BSD for being default rather than in our hal port. But the problem looks to be fuse-libs related, and not anything to do with gvfs or GNOME. You should rebuild fusefs-libs with debugging symbols, then get a new trace, and send that to the fusefs-libs maintainer. This only happens when exiting GNOME back to gdm an reentering it from there. After a reboot it works fine. Also starting it via an XTERM does not help, neither displays error messages that help (only error that trackerd is already running and cannot replace) I am running RELENG_7 with a custom kernel, ports are up to date. I recall this being a very old problem, I have experienced it about 3-4 years ago on Debian, too. Being unable to "tweak" my DM as I want, I switched to KDE. Now I am giving the GNOME a shot again, but still this annoying behavior. Any hints would be appreciated. Please let me know when you need any kind of log or similar. Please keep me on cc, since I am not subscribed to the list. Regards, Tino
