I tried it without the --enable-onchange-script and even just a plain make install clean on the vpopmail port. I did about an hours worth of troubleshooting and decided to portdowngrade to 5.4.27. This machine is acting as a gateway, and throughput between the networks seems fine, but destinations local to the server have issues. >How-To-Repeat: I first noticed the issue with Mediatomb, a upnp media server from the ports collection. The server would appear as a destination on my client devices, but it appeared as though no data was returning from the server - I could not browse the contents. As part of troubleshooting, I ran the daemon in debug mode, and it looked like it was outputting the data correctly. I noticed then that there was data being built up in the Send-Q in netstat output. mcj@ark ~ % netstat Active Internet connections Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state) tcp4 0 1551 ark.49152 192.168.1.50.61681 FIN_WAIT_1 I attempted to try the same thing with a different media server, ushare (also from the ports collection), and I got the same results, suggesting that the problem is not specific to Mediatomb. This machine also runs apache, which serves up some logfiles and mrtg-type graphs. When pulling up pages there, the HTML portion loads file, but the images referenced do not. Again, the data is getting stuck in the Send-Q. This suggests that the issue is not specific to the upnp protocol. mcj@ark ~ % netstat Active Internet connections Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state) tcp4 0 25234 ark.http chibi.61526 FIN_WAIT_1 I have seen some discussion of this issue on the mailing lists, and it seems that Pyun YongHyeon is looking into the problem, but he does not currently have the hardware. I checked in the pr database, and did not see this issue reported, so I thought I'd go ahead and send it in myself. >Fix: None known. Before I did the upgrade, I tested my network speed. After installing 8.0 (Clean install), I redid the test. The results were: FreeBSD 7.2: 504.41 KB/s FreeBSD 8.0: 273.17 KB/s When I retested, the results were the same. I have also talked to other people who have upgraded to 8.0 and they say they have noticed the same problem. One of my friends who did it, noted these results on his Gigabit network: FreeBSD 7.2: 112.5MB/s FreeBSD 8.0: 62.5MB/s He is running the AMD64 version. We both tested using TTCP. >How-To-Repeat: Seems to be the simple act of installing FreeBSD 8.0 causes the issue. >Fix: The only slight patch that I found was to set the following sysctls: net.isr.direct=0 kern.random.sys.harvest.ethernet=0 kern.random.sys.harvest.interrupt=0 It seemed to work for a few minutes, then the performance dropped to new lowers (Averaging 110 KB/s). >Release-Note: >Audit-Trail: >Unformatted: From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 9 17:13:36 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id AF5651065693; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:13:36 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from mav@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 86A668FC22; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:13:36 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB9HDaAx003264; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:13:36 GMT (envelope-from mav@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from mav@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB9HDahk003260; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:13:36 GMT (envelope-from mav) Date: Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:13:36 GMT Message-Id: <200912091713.nB9HDahk003260@freefall.freebsd.org> To: bofh@redwerk.com, mav@FreeBSD.org, freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: mav@FreeBSD.org Cc: Subject: Re: i386/138668: [ata] SATA drives are not recognized by FreeBSD 7.2 for ASUS K40IN notebook X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Dec 2009 17:13:36 -0000 Synopsis: [ata] SATA drives are not recognized by FreeBSD 7.2 for ASUS K40IN notebook State-Changed-From-To: open->closed State-Changed-By: mav State-Changed-When: Wed Dec 9 17:12:47 UTC 2009 State-Changed-Why: Patch merged to 8-STABLE. http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=138668 From owner-freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.ORG Wed Dec 9 17:20:05 2009 Return-Path: Delivered-To: freebsd-i386@hub.freebsd.org Received: from mx1.freebsd.org (mx1.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::34]) by hub.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 86D24106566B for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:20:05 +0000 (UTC) (envelope-from gnats@FreeBSD.org) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (freefall.freebsd.org [IPv6:2001:4f8:fff6::28]) by mx1.freebsd.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5D1328FC18 for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:20:05 +0000 (UTC) Received: from freefall.freebsd.org (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3) with ESMTP id nB9HK5UT003728 for ; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:20:05 GMT (envelope-from gnats@freefall.freebsd.org) Received: (from gnats@localhost) by freefall.freebsd.org (8.14.3/8.14.3/Submit) id nB9HK5jA003727; Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:20:05 GMT (envelope-from gnats) Date: Wed, 9 Dec 2009 17:20:05 GMT Message-Id: <200912091720.nB9HK5jA003727@freefall.freebsd.org> To: freebsd-i386@FreeBSD.org From: dfilter@FreeBSD.ORG (dfilter service) Cc: Subject: Re: i386/138668: commit references a PR X-BeenThere: freebsd-i386@freebsd.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list Reply-To: dfilter service List-Id: I386-specific issues for FreeBSD List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 09 Dec 2009 17:20:05 -0000 The following reply was made to PR i386/138668; it has been noted by GNATS.
